Good doseges of protein powder.

Well i have been taking protein shakes twice daily. And half the amount of last time and it has had no affect of sickness. Oh and i have been having it with milk but just standard milk not like soy or reduced stuff like that. Im going to try and have it with milk again before the workout' and i had it with water the day i threw up. I think my body should be used to it now.

Silent, I'm confused about your statement of not taking the protein before the workout. Time of breakdown considered, protein essentially takes ~4 hours to finish breaking down. If we're consuming the protein Pre-WO because we do not have a viable food source available several hours Pre-WO, then the protein is essentialy breaking down as we're working slowly releasing.

It's not like we take the protein in and the body suddenly has 20-60 grams of protein to repair itself with.

Thus, pre-workout nutrition is just as critical as post, IMO.

I'm sorry, but silent i laughed a little at your "but you may or may not have a digestion problem!" argument. according to that, we shouldn't eat anything. because we might have a secret digestion problem!

I think the issue is that milk digestion problems are extremely common and almost never diognosed as the effects aren't usually severe, some people don't even notice the symptoms because they've had them everyday of their lives.
I spotted two family members with Lactose intolerance who were unaware of it. One was my Dad who insisted I was wrong and he just had a lingering chest infection for about a year before he went to a doctor who told him the same as I did.
The second was an Aunt who noticed a mucous build up in her throat. I said she was lacking in the enzyme that breaks down certain milk proteins but she chose to research the all powerful internet instead and decided that milk contains lots of mucous from ill cows (WTF!) and that was the problem. I started to try and argue against that for about 5 seconds before throwing in the towel.

Anyway, the point is that a vast number of people don't process milk very well and maybe it's best to play safe and mix with water

Definitely way over-hyped, but not without merit; however, using it in supplemental form is fairly pointless, I agree. I'm not too sure about that article that you linked: I'd be suspicious of articles written by chemical companies that sell supplements, IMO.

Huh? Their not a chemical company and they don't sell anything. Their an independent news corp more geared to the people in the industry of nutrition. Mostly aimed at providing the latest scientific research on nutrition. Great newsletter if your interested on research in the nutrition field.

Also They are saying what the USDA has said on the matter.
As it says in the title of the news letter
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the nation's dairy industry are putting a stop to claims in their advertising that dairy products cause weight loss following a petition from the controversial Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) filed in 2005.

Exactly. The point is until your sure you are not affected by it. Then it might be wise to play on the safe side. Its not downing milk to say this or anything. Its focusing on whats optimum for the body. And if you are sensitive without knowing its not optimum to consume it pre-workout.

For the record I will not suggest against drinking milk pre/post workout again. You are right that it is an individual thing However common I believe it to be. But again I believe one should find out if they are or are not sensitive to milk.

I even did my own little study on the matter about a year ago. I'm sure y'all aren't interested so I won't bother.

No no, I'm saying a well placed meal consisting of lean protein can work just as fine as a protein shake pre workout.
I didn't say No protein before I basically said MAY not need a protein supplement before.
