Hi Shannon

You were very moderate for your birthday dinner. Well done.

Dont get too perturbed if your weight goes up for the next day or two. It will not be because of calories - but may happen because of the saltiness of the anchovy. Keep drinking the water and it will be fine.

Dont just use 25 inches because I used that in my little example. You could be robbing yourself (although not as much as I am sure 15.7 inches is robbing you). Since you are so tall - I would not be surprised if your steplenght is longer. Measure your steplength. The best way to do that is to stride out 10 steps and measure it - then divide by 10.

Take care
Best wishes
Margaret

I shall measure it tomorrow Margaret, about to go to sleep. Thanks! :) You guys have been such a great help.

Diet

Do you guys ever have the days when you suddenly run out of everything all at once? Not just food and drink, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo etc. Trust me, it's fun! :leaving:

Had my dad's famous Spaghetti Bolognese tonight, and it was as delicious as ever with the wholegrain spaghetti which I was pleased dad used instead on my instructions. I'm not sure if the spaghetti is the healthiest thing in the world to eat, as the sauce seems to contain a lot of sodium (which I realised afterwards), but if I'm meant to have a "cheat meal" once a week, let that be it. There are far worse alternatives.

Breakfast
Oatmeal - 112 cals
One banana - 138 cals
1/2 glass of skin milk - 42 cals
Total: 291 cals

Lunch
Two lettuce, tomato, wholegrain bread - 350 cals
One apple - 75 cals
One glass of skim milk - 84 cals
Total: 509 cals

Snacks
One apple - 75 cals
Total: 75 cals

Dinner
Spaghetti Bolognese
Mince Beef - 300 cals
Bolognese Sauce - 88 cals(Think this might have too much sodium)
Wholegrain spaghetti - 440 cals (3x Fibre)
Sliced onion - 20 cals
Capsicum - 32 cals

Total: 1,687 cals

Water
3 litres+

Grand Total: 1819 cals

Exercise

Normal Walking

Sunday was a very lazy day. Going back to full gear tomorrow, but I just had a quiet one at home unfortunately. Not good at all.

Steps: 1,213 steps
Distance: 0.721km
Calories burnt: 42.5 cals

Thanks for reading guys,
Shannon

Hey guys,

Proud of my effort today. Got 15,000 steps and walked almost 10km. I will post results tomorrow. However, I am posting tonight as my pedometer started suddenly beeping and nothing will fix it. What the hell? I only got this thing like last week.

I took the battery out and all is working again, I think the battery wasn't in tightly enough. What a relief!

Had mixed boiled vegetables last night for dinner. Dad said that if they are boiled the goodness of the vegetables will mostly be in the water, so dad kept the water and put it in the fridge for me to drink some "vegetable water", which was nice of him!

Calories burnt: 308.8 cals

Power-walking

Yay, I reached the 7,000 mark in a hour. The first half an hour I was walking very fast and working up a pace, however the second half I realised I was wearing the wrong socks and my left foot was hurting and developing a blister and thus my speed subsided considerably. D'oh.

Calories burnt: 261.1 cals

Total

About a month until I return to Uni. There is a gym at Uni which I am considering joining, excited about doing so but at the same time extremely nervous that the athletic and fit students will look at me with superiority and curiosity as to why I am there.

Thanks for reading guys,
Shannon

Oh, I'm considering joining the gym around the corner from my hometown home for a month before I go to Uni.

The reason I'm hesitant in joining in a small town is because I'll know everyone and be slightly embarrassed.

But at the same time, there's no time like the present.

Hi Shannon

You are doing really well on the walking and with everything else.

You realised for yourself that the dinner was too small. Do not deprive yourself. For one thing you need to get a certain amount of protein and for another - why starve if you can eat tons of food and lose weight just the same. I have a ton of food and defy anyone to feel hungry after what I eat. I have never been and will never be the kind of dieter who says how filling a couple of lettuce leaves are.

I think that joining a gym is a good idea if you can afford it - they are often a bit expensive. If there is an affordable one nearby - it is hard to go wrong.

The good thing about knowing everyone is that news quickly gets around and what is a surprise to someone today is common knowledge to everyone a couple of days later. So people maybe get a surprise - so what! They will soon notice that you have been making changes when the reducing pounds add up and are plain to see.

You are currently motivated and fully plan to stay that way. I really cannot see how you can lose by people seeing that you have adopted a more healthy lifestyle.

Sorry about the blister. I have had a few of those. They arent much fun.

Take care
Best wishes
Margaret

Thanks. :)

For dinner I just eat what my dad feeds me. Often the dinner is like that (even before my diet), and he's trying very hard to help me eat healthy. I guess when he asks me for quantities I should stick to mediums, not too much but not too little. :)

Yeah, I plan to join a gym when in my University town no matter what. I wonder if there are month memberships?

All my friends and family know and are very supportive. What I am worried about is the jerks in this town that might make a few jokes about it. Trust me, there are still a lot of immature people at my age.

You are currently motivated and fully plan to stay that way. I really cannot see how you can lose by people seeing that you have adopted a more healthy lifestyle.

That's so true, actually. :)

No, no they are not. :(

Cheers Margaret,
Shannon. :)

When I started this power walk 20 days or so ago I found it extremely difficult and I would be puffing and my heart would be beating. Lately, especially in the past five days I've found it much more easier and consistent.

I think to myself "am I not doing this right these days and not pushing myself and taking it slow?", or is 20 days of doing this getting me fitter? Hmmm.

It was my birthday tonight (well yesterday, as it was passed 12am). Had the proper birthday dinner and had a fair few beers which I'm not most pleased of. Friends kept persisting to purchase and shout me some since it is my birthday and it is a one off.

However, one of my friends bought me ANOTHER pedometer, this one comes with a pulse rate.

My dad got be a blender for me to make healthy fruit smoothies and drinks.

I am so pleased to see everyone helping me along the way. :)

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

Hey folks. Yesterday I turned 19 and my friends organized another dinner for me at one of the local pubs. Although I did have quite a few beers (all shouted from my friends, about 15 people came), I knew when to stop, and surprisingly today I weighed 0.2kg less. However, yes, I am slightly hungover. I don't regret it, it was a special occasion and I am entitled to fun.

For dinner I did indeed have a steak and salad, every one of my friends were proud of me for declining the cost-free chips.

One of my friends bought me a pedometer with a pulse-rate. However I think it's very touchy as if I get 5 or so steps it says 10, so in my results until I fiddle around with it I'm going to use my first one. It feels weird wearing two pedometers but it shows my determination.

My dad bought me a blender for me to make fruit smoothies. Tomorrow I am going to fiddle around with it and perhaps a strawberry drink with my strawberries. Anyone have any good suggestions for some healthy fruit drinks? I guess I can use this as well to make protein shakes? :)

Hi Shannon

I am pleased that you enjoyed further birthday celebrations. Turning 19 is too important to limit the celebrations to just one day. It is great that your weight was down afterwards.

Its great that your friends are being so supportive. You got some great presents.

I am currently wearing two pedometers - so dont feel too silly. The normal pedometer started robbing me of steps - you knew that it was robbing you when an entire day's steps came to a shorter distance than two of the walks that you had done that day. We had a spare one so I started wearing that too. No-one would ever know unless you told them.

Take care
Best wishes
Margaret

Well today I weighed in back at 90.0kg, so I guess the steak and beer were delayed. Haha.
