Geovicsha's Diary - New Years Resolution.

Going to Swan Hill (my home town) for a week made me realise how much I need to weigh myself everyday, otherwise it's so easy to go off track.

Despite the fact the weight there is the exact same scale as the one in Bendigo, it appears to have screwed up majorly (perhaps due to water on it or something?)

I was getting weights of 69-71kg, ranging quite rapidly, and the next day I had 76-77kg. I fell a bit off track and had some Chinese food and a packet of chips, which normally wouldn't happen if I was aware of my daily increasing/decreasing weight.

The only solution I have now is when I go to Swan Hill for more than 5 days, I need to bring the scales with me as I'm too poor right now to buy another model.

I was in Swan Hill for one week and gained 1kg, now at 74.2kg, my first significant gain/draw back since I began in January.

In a way, this proves that I'm not invincible and was actually a blessing in disguise, giving me more incentive to aim for the mid 60's.

Wish me luck. :)

you don't need luck :)

you know what you need to do and you've got the determination do to it :)

I have complete faith in you that you'll do what you need to... :D

Which part of Australia is Swan Hill in?

Thanks Mal, that means a lot. :D

I'm back down to 73.3kg, so that was awfully fast coming down.

Swan Hill is located in North West Victoria, Victoria being a state in the South East of Australia. Bendigo is Central Victoria.

Hi Shannon

The new picture is great.

I cannot say that I am surprised that the additional weight has gone down quickly since your extravagances were Chinese food and a packet of chips. Both of these foods are known for being high in sodium which makes you retain water.

When I go to Newcastle I take my scales with me - and still can sometimes see a jump up and jump down on the scales due not to a change in weight or scales - but the fact that the scales are at a different location. They always say that it is good if you can always have your scales at the same spot on the floor - obviously when you are away from home - the location has changed even if the scales are the same.

As far as lunches go - I think that both the ideas that have been suggested to you are great. I have been having cottage cheese or quark on my jacket potatoes. I had axed all cheese from my diet - but have found that both these options are ok for me.

Here are a couple of warming recipes that you could make up and split to last for a few days. I havent made them but they come to me highly recommended - so I will try them soon. If without a liquidiser - I would just chop finely and see what it was like. I would tend to see what it was like with no or very little salt.

All in Soup
serves 4

stick of celery, chopped
half a cauliflower, chopped
medium courgette, chopped
2 heaped tbsps white cabbage, shredded
25g mushrooms, chopped
bay leaf
half teaspoon dill
clove garlic, crushed
vegetable stock cube
700ml water
salt

Place all the ingredients in a large pot and bring to the boil. Simmer gently for 45 minutes, liquidise, season to taste and serve.

Vegetable Curry
serves 4

onion, finely chopped
tablespoon curry powder
garlic clove, crushed
low fat cooking spray
100g cauliflower florets
2 carrots, sliced
courgette, sliced
100g mushroom, sliced
red pepper, chopped
100g broccoli
400g tin tomatoes
500ml vegetable stock
tbsp tomato puree
salt and pepper

Saute the onions, garlic and curry powder om low fat cooking spray for 3 minutes. Add the carrots and cauliflower and cook for a further 2 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients, bring to the boil and simmer for 20 minutes until all the vegetables are tender. Season to taste.

Good luck

Take care
Love
Margaret

I went to my doctor today for the first time since January, giving him an update on my weight loss. I first asked him the question of how to maintain the weight once I reach my desired goal weight, as I feared that I would continue losing if I continued my current diet, but if I ate more I would gain. He said that I can continue the diet (but add some more red meat and orange juice for Vitamin C) but once my body loses enough, the weight will plateau.

I told him that I'm currently about 71.5kg, and he said that's fine and it will plateau around there and not try and lose anymore. Instead, to remove the flabby bits (what he dubs as excess skin) the best idea will be to tone up with weights and the "man breasts" and flabby stomach will become more hard in time, especially at such a young age.

Anyone that is reading this, although I don't like to contradict my doctor, do you think 71-72kg is a logical weight loss goal rather than 66kg? Do you think what he said makes perfect sense?

Shannon :)

I think that you can continue to go down to a number where you feel happy (barring obsessive anorexic tendencies).

Doctors (and I assume yours is a GP) are GENERAL practitioners... this forum has more knowledge than your doctor about weight loss and keeping it off!

Yeah I know what you mean about being a GENERAL practitioner.. It's just that I respect my GP, and he has been my GP since I was about 4 years old and he is like a father figure to me in some ways, and I hold his advice (in both weight loss when he first gave me advice and prior experiences) in high regard.

What makes me take his advice seriously is that he said when I reach that goal weight I'll begin to plateau, and I think (judging from the Weigh Yourself Everyday Club) that that is indeed becoming the case.

I think it was Maleficient that got to a certain weight.... her GP told her she won't lose anymore, her body has decided to plateau and settle at that weight. She did a few things to break the plateau... read about on the site, or ask her maybe.

It does all get really confusing... it's like information overload these days! (with everything!)

Oh cool, that's good information to hear. Thanks for that. :) Yeah I think I might aim for late 60s. I'm going to post a new topic soon regarding weight training as well as goal weight.

You've been very helpful. :D

Although there's a bit of fat on me, I think I'm pretty happy now with my weight. I need to now concentrate on building muscle, tightening up and reducing body fat percentage.

Here's some pictures, and reading through this diary almost makes me cry.

Hey Shannon!! It's been awhile!!

It looks like you've really done well with the weight loss, how's the weight training coming along? You look fantastic in your pics! If I were younger and single I'd be hitting on you right now. :D Hell, I may just hit on you anyways...
