Hi All,

Well Its 1 in the morning here and I have just woken and been sick but that was 6 hours so things are improving. after i get sick i feel fine and so far have no heartburn but a bit of indigestion. I had half a weetabix at 6 and felt full. I am trying to drink as much water as i can but its very hard and can only take sips. I just weighed myself and am down 4 1/2 lbs. Its bad but not as bad as i expected so far!!
her again glad to hear you are out and about again.
Ali hope all goes well for you today and enjoy I hope you turn a corner soon. Its great to be able to see how you are all doing

Wow your doing really well! So nervous now! 4 1/2lbs!! Thats fab!
I'm going to the clinic in an hour and feeling really hungry!
Just remember when times get hard they will get better! You have us all to lean on whenever you struggle!
I dont think i will be able to write again until Thursday as I won't be in this apartment. When i write again everything will all be done and no doubt i'll be feeling like crap! haha! speak to you all soon!
Her_again, Keep up the good work! your doing really well!

Hi All, how are you? Very glad to read that we have some "new joiners" this week! How are you doing with the balloon? As far as I've read, all of you are more or less fine, so keep at it and you'll be fine in just a few days!

One question for the ones that have had the balloon for some time... I'm starting to have problems in going to the loo, I've been once in 1 week and I?m utterly inflated! Besisdes, I'm having smelly (eggy) burps and cannot get rid of them!!! (sorry, TMI I know but I need to know whether somebody has a clue about this!!)

Hopefully somebody can help me?

Many thanks!

PD: Just for the record, I need to lose 20kg (my ideal is 25, I was 93 and want to be 68kg but 73kg for me is just fine as I'm 1.70cm with a wide-bone structure). I've lost 7kg so far, which could be more if I managed to empty my belly going to the loo!!! I had my balloon on 12th June, so 6 weeks in. Many thanks for your help!

Hi,
I'm now 8 weeks into the programme and asked the same question as you just a few weeks ago. I was advised to eat prunes and drink prune juice but I found the taste disgusting. I used Syrup of Figs - 2 tablespoons as instructed was all I needed. I still find by the end of the following week I am back bloated and with problems going to the loo.
My nutritionist advised me to eat at least 4 ryvitas a day to increase roughage and now I have bran on my diet so hopefully this will help. She advised not to use laxatives as a solution but to be honest I am sure that I will use them when I feel I need to.
My digestive system is really slow and I find that when I have the burps it is when something is moving, so I don't really mind them.
I think its all just part of the process.

Hi All
Well I delighted to report I am very much on the mend today.... no vomiting in 36 hours.. the cramps are alot less too. I have not suffered heartburn at all but have had indigestion. I am very bloated today though and it is uncomfortable. my scales tell me I am 6lbs down since insertion whoop!! How are the rest of you getting along? Look forward to hearing your progress.
I am going to attempt to drive the car and visit my mum today!! I have slept so much since sunday cant believe i was capable of staying in bed so long!!

at last

Hurrah, at last I am starting to feel normal again, 5 weeks down the line and I have only been sick once this week. I am back to my usual energy levels and now want to get back to the gym and start healthy eating again.

I have lost a stone in 5 weeks, yes a whole stone!! I am now back to 10 stone something for the first time in about 5 years. Hoping to lose at least another stone in the next 5 months 2 stone if possible so I will be back to a size 10 for my holiday in December.

Helloo cheekbones ... forgotten what you looked like!!!

Anyone else not weeing very much? I can go all day without a loo break, it's great but not sure why as I am drinking my usual amount of water.:hurray:

Hi there was wondering if you could tell me how bluewater was. I have appointment on Tuesday. Was there any restrictions prior to surgery? would i be able to drive myself home
thanks so much

Very BAD Luck!!!

Well... What an experience i've had!

I really don't know how you guys have coped. I had my balloon inserted on tuesday 21/7/09 and i have to admit it was an awful experience which i hoped i would not have to go through again for a long time.

The first day i slept pretty much all day and occasionally woke up to vomit. I was told to drink small sips of water leaving a couple of mins between each sip but i still vomited the water back up.

The second day i thought i was on the mend after a sleepless night (up all night being sick) I was not sick for about 2 hours but then began terrible acid. I still could now hold down water. The nurses tried me on a yogurt drink but no luck with that either.

The third day was worse... I had still not managed to stomach water and i was put on constant drips to keep my fluids up. The nurses tried me on many anti sickness medications, heartburn substances and pain relievers for my awful stomach cramps but nothing was working. I was supposed to be staying over in the nice apartment again this night but all the doctors and nurses were too concerned so i had to stay another night at the clinic. so yes... I stayed there again and they kept my drips going throughout the night.

The fourth day the pain had not stopped, the sickness had got worse and i was vomiting lots of blood along with large amounts of acid and this was while being treated for anti sickness. I honestly thought i was going to die. Unfortunately because of my fluid levels and my bodies reaction to the balloon they had to take it out. So again i had to go through the procedure (in reverse) which was again awful! After 7 hours of extraction i was able to eat a slice of toast and drink a cup of tea but i was full. In four days i have lost 8lbs but obviously not in a healthy way as i haven't eaten or drank. My clothes are much baggier on me and i look slimmer already. I certainly would not put myself through this experience ever again! I am now going to stick to a strict diet and smaller portions as i think my stomach has shrunk abit anyway.

Well done to all of you who have had success with the balloon. I am a little gutted that it did not work for me but at least i am alive!
I really hope it turns out for the best for all you ballooners! take care all! x

Hi Ali
So sorry to hear it went so wrong for you... all has settled down for me and I have also lost 8 lbs in my first week. I am back on normal diet tomorrow dont no how I am going to eat all my meals!
I wonder why it went so wrong for you? did they have any explaination? are you home yet? its such a pity and as you return to normal you will no doubt be p****d off with the waste of money. I wish you the best of luck to succeed the conventional way. I hope you will be feeling better soon. take care xx

Ahh thats great!! so glad its working for you... Yes I am completely p****d off that i spent all that money for four days of pain but hey... thats life i suppose its a b*tch!
They could not give me an explaination, just that it didnt work for my body.
I arrived home yesterday afternoon and went to bed pretty much straight away.
I was up all night last night vomiting acid so im still not right!!! Today ive managed to eat half an apple and drink a cup of tea as my stomach is still in pain :(. Ah well hopefully I'll feel better much soon.

I'll still keep reading this as it still interests me very much, so keep me updated! xx

Bluewater

Kelly

There is no way possible you will be able to drive yourself home....at the clinic they will tell you that you have to have a driver with you. The only pre-procedure I got was nothing but fluids for 36 hours before hand and nothing at all after midnight the night before.

Ali

I am so sorry to hear how bad your experience was. I hope things go well for you on your new path.

Lastresort...

Glad to hear you are doing so well my friend :)

I am 9 days in now....can eat anything...only did the liquids for 5 days. I have no heartburn or acid reflux at all...don't know if that is due to the daily pill I have to take for 6 months or because I put 4" blocks under the head of my bed to elevate it?! The cramps are almost completely gone ( only happen when I eat more than a cup of food ). I even started going to curves and working out again.

I have named my 600 ml balloon Phil.....lol.....seemed appropriate.

hi all
I havnt been on for ages as work away a lot and havnt had a lot of time...
wel done to all of you, your all doing so well..
I had mine in April and have lost 2 stone, but that was in the fist couple of months, I havnt lost any thing for ages and can eat what ever I like really which isnt a good thing, my portions have gone up again so I realy need to sort that out as only have a couple of months left but need another stone and a half off. If anyone knows of a miracal cure or the best foods to eat then please let me know. I had mine done with the Hospital group and wouldnt rate them no one phones me back and iv only had 2 calls from the diatition, im even getting bills from the hospital who did the procedure sent to me as the Hospital Group havnt paid them, so a bit worried about when I have to have it taken out in case I have to pay again.....
well good luck to everyone at the beginning of your jouney and keep going to all of you who have been on it a while,
:waving:

Hi All,
Good to hear from you all again..... I am as good as new again dont suffer at all really pretty much the same as you Her again..... no acid or reflux which I was dreading.... I started on normal diet yesterday and after dinner I was bloated for the rest of the day! Starting exercise today as I feel I have enough energy.
I had mine done with a group called Cosmedico in Ireland and so far the gastric nurse has called me every day and found them all very nice in the clinic.
I am down 10lbs this morning which I am relly pleased with so hopefully this will all continue for my 6 months.
Keep up the good work everybody....we will succeed :)

.

Ali, how awful for you, shame you cannot get some of your money back, that is really bad as it's not your fault your body didn't take to it.

Lastresort, what tablets are you on for the acid? I may have to try them as I am suffering really bad and some days cannot eat anything. I don't get any cramps or smelly burps as some people have reported, I get lots of acid which sometimes comes up and burns my throat. I can go all day without going for a pee, and I feel as tho I smell of the balloon!!!!!

Hope the next 5 months go quick!!

Hi Nan,
No problem they are called Zoton Fas Tab 30mg and for the first month I have to take one in the morning and one at night and one a day after that. I hope they help thank god I have none of those problems so far!!! They gave me tabs for cramps and vomiting to which I only used the first couple of days. Good luck :)

anyone else have these?

It has come to my attention that since having the balloon in I now have frequent headaches and dizziness....I am not too concerned about the dizziness but the headaches are really messing with daily life.

Has anyone else noticed headaches?

Hi Her Again,
I have not suffered with headaches either. I wonder if maybe you are not eating enough? You should ask your gastric nurse about that to be on the safe side.... hope all else is going well for you. I find I am down in the dumps a fair bit :( apart from that I seem to have no side effects so far but it is early days yet!

lastresort

HAHAHA@ not eating enough...who ever thought that would be an issue...lol. For 20+ yrs I ate once a day and now I am eating 3 times a day....talk about a shock to the system! I have now discovered that if I eat as soon as I get up at 5:30 a.m. that my stomach doesn't feel as blech. So if I eat too much I feel sick and if I don't eat I feel sick.

I am sorry to hear you are feeling down again my friend. Did the clinic you used also give you a psychologist to use for a year? mine did. I find if I think about my weight that I get down in the dumps...I have lost 10 lbs since the 17th and nothing more....I am hoping that once I get over this queaziness when I am active that I will start to lose a little more.

Keep your chin up.....this is going to be one heck of a rollercoaster ride but you are going to do great :)

Downs and Ups

Hi everyone,
I always try to stay positive but I am finding it rather difficult at the moment.
10 weeks gone - 16 to go!
I lost 17lbs the first month and 17lbs the second month and in this third month I have managed to loose only 1. I've never quite recovered from my blockage of the stomach by the balloon and still don't feel I can eat properly. I can't manage 3 small meals a day, it's too much.
The dreaded smelly burbs and explosive 'bottom burps' have just arrived. I'm taking charcoal capsules but it doesn't help - it's so embarrassing.
When I was in hospital at the begining with the blockage I didn't want the balloon out - but this past week I have been tempted to call to have it removed.
My stomach always seems bloated, my skin is dry and my hair seems to be falling out. My hair is longer than I normally have it so perhaps I'm just noticing it more.
Add to this my constipation, lack of energy and being uncomfortable when I sit (spend the evenings lying on my left side with my feet raised as instructed) and I am just miserable.
My nutritionist hasn't phoned for 2 weeks (supposed to phone weekly) so now have to chase them again!
I don't think I'm eating enough - most days no more than 600 - 800 calories - so why no weight loss?

After reading all of your comments the above doesn't seem to be unusual and everyone seems to have had these type of experiences. So please tell me how to overcome this lot.

On the up side I am 35lbs lighter and wore a suit to work yesterday that I haven't had on for a very long time - perhaps as much as 2 years (I've only wore it twice before).

Also previously when I got 'down' I would eat - now I can't. Every cloud eh!

I'm off now to do more research on the mysteries of eggy burps.
