Hi everyone,

I am new here but been lurking for a few weeks reading everyone's experiences of the gastric balloon. I would have liked to have the gastric band as I am concerned about keeping the weight off after (and hate being sick!) but as my BMI isn't quite high enough (33.3), I am thinking about having the balloon instead. I am wondering, if I am allowed to ask on these forums where people had theirs done? Especially those that had it done in Europe? There seems to be so many places doing it, my brain has gone into overload.

Many thanks in advance:)

Hi Astral,

I'm a 46 year old man and am about 70lbs overweight. Since it has been seriously hampering my lifestyle I have considered having gastric band surgery.

However, I have heard that there is a risk in this proceedure, like in all surgery & have been looking around for an alternative.

My partner Kathy showed me a newspaper article about people losing considerable amounts of weight by being hypnotised into believing that they have already had the surgery & that a band was actually in place.

Does anyone have any experience of this, since it seems improbable to me.

Thanks

Or you can, you know, reduce your calories and portions to lose weight. Surgery is about the very last resort. See, the surgery FORCES you to do the same changes you have to do without the surgery.

I understand this perfectly and agree with you 100%. Exercise and lowering your food intake is the way to lose weight - also to not blame anything else for your present condition and accept that it is of your own doing. But - man - it's tough without any help.

I'm seriously considering getting some help through the hypnosis route, especially the session where the hypnotist makes you believe you have had a gastric band fitted.

However, instead of spending mega money with a hypnotherapist, I would rather buy a CD or a download on the same thing.

Does such a thing exist?

Gastric Surgery Article

Just posted an article about this very topic. Still undecided whether it is a good thing or not. Let me know what you think.

I had lap-band surgery done in the Center for Bariatric Surgery, New Jersey. They were great! The team of surgeons, nutritionists and psychologists there helped me through the pre and post-operative period. This is important as you’ll go through a lot of emotional challenges and a psychologist can help you understand whether you are prepared for this well before surgery takes place.
