Is this a serious post? :/

seems like the Pavlovian dog effect taken to the next step.
No, I don't believe you can gain weight by looking at food.
But that's not really what the article is saying, is it?

Actually, sorry but the site isn't exactly a 'credible' source.

oh and have to remove since it breaks several forum rules

As per the PM sent to you: new members can't post links and those sites can't contain advertising/should come from a credible website such as webmd, mayo clinic, etc

my bad jericho should have read the rules. so this person is just completely lying writing nonsense on something as random as this? hmm cant believe someone would take the time to do that

I'm not saying that. I'm saying that I had to remove the link due to forum rules. I never said anything about what the person was saying.

sorry should have been more specific i was referring to the other users who say this is completely false. since you removed the link am i allowed to say where i found this source im speaking of?

I think the article is based on poor 1980's research...they didn't site a source for their information, so I did a quick google search looking for articles about "visual food insulin increase", and could only find a few articles that looked like they might resemble some form of that theory- but they were all very out dated....

Actually, reviewing the article..I wouldn't trust it.

1) writer isn't in the medical field.

2) study is only stated as a Yale study..no specific case or such.

3) The site is designed to try and get people to click weight loss ads and draw traffic to their site.

I think a better idea for you is to check out the stickies in the forums for some real information :)

I've searched for the "study" done by Yale and cannot find anything else about it online.

Also, you've posted this exact same post on at least one other forum (where you have also been told that it's not true) that I can find and copied and pasted your responses to us from there--Are you like advertising for that site or something :/ Do your own research if you like but there is nothing to support the claims made on that "article".

Find something more credible (like a study done by a credible institution) and then I'll take a look but I've found nothing to support it.

lol yup im advertising for that site. i posted it on the body building website so i can get opinions from people specializing in a different field so i can get a more rounded opinion. they have things on that site that are legit, pretty much every other thing i have read so it really seems weird that out of the blue they throw in a bs article, wouldnt you agree?

not really.

But let me just say this..simply put the site is considered advertising on this forum. End of story there.

If you want to debate the article itself, either cut and paste it here (with no links or such) or find the information on a credited site.

ok im fine with that being considered advertising im not arguing at all about that, im just focusing on this article right now. since you give me permission to copy and paste it here it is:

Can You Gain Weight Just Looking At Food?
You Can Gain Weight Without Even Taking A Bite

My mother swears she gains a pound every time she just looks at a brownie. We used to laugh at her when she’d say that -- now it seems as though she may have been telling the truth. Think it’s impossible for people to gain weight just by looking at food? Guess again. Studies show it’s not just possible, it’s been scientifically proven!

How Unfair Is This?

You’re hungry -- famished actually -- and you spy a delectable pot roast with gravy-laden mashed potatoes. You’re being a good little dieter and you don’t take a single bite. How much good is it doing your diet? It may actually be doing more harm. If you look at mouthwatering food while hungry, your might start packing on the pounds without consuming a single calorie.

A Matter of Nature Working Against Us
Yale University recently conducted a very interesting study. They checked the insulin levels of hungry people who were exposed to the sight, smell and even just the thought of char-broiled steaks. Without even taking a single bite, these people’s insulin levels skyrocketed and their body’s started converting glucose into fat. What does this mean? Without taking a single bite of food, these people started gaining weight.

How To Fight It
First and foremost, if you’re hungry, eat. Now this doesn’t mean you have to consume high-fat, high-calorie foods. You can simply eat high-fiber, low-calorie snacks to keep your hunger under control.

If you’re not hungry when you come across a tantalizing food, your body will be less likely to have the above-mentioned reaction and you won’t gain weight without even eating.

Also make sure you avoid all-you-can-eat buffets since the sensory overload may increase your body’s chances of turning glucose into fat before you even start eating.

It may seem like your body’s out to get you, but with some self control and a bit of knowledge, you can beat it at its own game.

And it was written in 2007..and it still has no actual data backing it up (anyway you can provide the actual study)? Sorry, this is less of an article and more of a blog post..

if insulin levels skyrocket, then all your glucose will be converted into glycogen and stored in cells. it certainly won't be converted to fat.

It's just a blog post. It's not scientific and it isn't credible. And it isn't right.

Other "articles" from that site include "Should You Skip the Gym and Head to the Local Coffee Shop?". Need I say more.
