G8r80's training / dieting / cycling / log

Todd, Drex, Sparrow, BSL, any other swimmers: I am looking into this tether system for said hotel pools. Anyone know anything about them? $30 is reasonable price.

Today I was gonna do my Saturday bike hammerfest, but the spouse was down in the dumps from me traveling, so I stayed home. I did manage 440 continuous yards in the home pool in 10:00 with a pull buoy.

I haven't seen one like that before. I did see a demo of one that has a body strap and is on a flexable pole that hooks up on the side of the pool so you can work on both arms and legs. That was a bigger contraption though and not ideal to take traveling. I have never tried using anything like this. It looks like it would work for practicing your stroke. I didn't see how exactly it attaches to the edge of the pool though and will it be able to attach to any pool?

Great training! G8r you're rockin. I have seen those cables you had the link to. Every so often swimmers will come to the pool with them. There are a few "iron" fellows who use them too and they are worth it. I'm just still really impressed by all your hard work. Plus-okay, going to the Y after you get in at 2am? You're a mutant.

PS props on your decison to stay home for your wife. Thats quality.

Yesterday was a travel day to Ann Arbor, Michigan. Today, did 1 mile in the pool and 1 hour on the stationary bike.

Today, ran 5 miles in just under 45 minutes on the University of Michigan's beautiful outdoor track. Bench press: 135x6x3, 5 pullups, 5 reverse pullups, stationary bike for 30 minutes.

Swam 1 mile in pool using pull buoy: 50 minutes. This is the third mile that I have swum in the last week and this was definitely easier than the others. Stationary bike: 30 minutes.

OK big brother. I got the deck stained today. So are we gonna "start this" thing or what? Do we need a seperate thread, maybe one entitled "grumpy old men". My plan is to post my workout as well as a link to my fitday journal each day. Feel free to challenge me, recommend changes, give advice etc.

Anyone, someone, help me out. How do you post the link to your fitday journal? I've seen others do it but can't figure it out myself. Thanks in advance, Greg

Think there is an option in fitday to make your journal private or public and then it will have a link if you choose public-check the settings

Thanks dear (can I call u that or only FF, hehehe?). I actually signed in and went to the "home" page and found the link. I appreciate the help. Time to get this thing rolling again. Take care, Greg

Thanks G8R. I just posted goals, workout plan etc. I will also post mostly in my journal but give periodic updates here.

Sorry, Kraken, I didn't know you lived near Ann Arbor! My ooops..;) Next year when I return we'll hang out!

Its about 50 miles or so from where I'm at. But I would meet you haflway. Some good bike trails all over the place. A few parks at the halfway piont provide some good scenic biking.

either that or I'd take you fishing. LOL

Okay, Kraken, we're on for next year.

Today was a travel day. I managed to squeeze in 3.5 miles on the treadmill.

1800 yard pool swim. First 500 yards were lackadaisical with stops after each 100 yards. Then, I got serious and did the next 600 yards non-stop, rested for 1 minute, and did the last 700 yards non-stop. I focused on form and pulling. I used a pull buoy but next time will do it with zoomers per Sparrow's direction.

In the evening, 3.1 miles on treadmill. Roads were wet. 9 minute miles.

Yesterday I rode the recumbent bike for 30 minutes as warm up/cardio combined.

I followed that by 4 supersets of legs. Each set included leg presses, leg extensions, leg curls and calf presses.

Diet was decent. My wife and I ended up eating dinner at some friends house. Mexican food was great but I ate in moderation. YES!!!

Weekend event #1 scheduled for Sunday - Bike ride to Vian (local town about 9 miles away) and back. Will have to start early as temps have been climbing to 100 degrees daily. Humidity has been a killer. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!!!

Rode 4 miles to YMCA on mountain bike.

1200 yards in the pool using the blue Zoomers. These wear me out faster than the pull buoy but I go faster - 25 seconds / 25 yards. Then, 100 yards with nothing and I remembered how bad of a swimmer I am without "enhancements", i.e., pull buoy, Zoomers, or a wetsuit.

lat pulldowns: 10x3
bench press: 135x6, 155x6, 135x6
33 minutes on stationary bike - busted my @$$ but was 2 minutes off my pb on this particular ride - rats!

Rode 4 miles home.
