For Connie Chung- From Carl Dung!

It can server a purpose, but I think man has been a bit careless in this "realm". I don't see an issue with folks who want kids and there is something that is making it more difficult, *however* I do see a problem with how these clinics are able to be so careless as to *lose* hundreds of peoples eggs, or mislabel them.

Research has also taken this a bit far. Are you guys aware that some 12+ years ago there were 10 women who has eggs with genetic defects in them, and scientist we able to extract the defective part of the eggs, and *replace* them with yet another woman's non-defective part? There are 10 young adults walking around with the DNA of 3 people!

It *barely* made the news.....why? They didn't want to call too much attention to their mad scientific experiments.......

I think 2 of them are on this forum :jumping:

I agree though- and it was why I posted the article- that is is nuts they are losing eggs, sticking them in the wrong womb and stuff. It's like a party in SanFrancisco during the sixties, except they aren't on acid.

LOL, yeah, the way they are proceeding, you'd thing they are on acid.....

I *think* when they actually started all of this, it was a clinic, but a hospital that dealt with all of this and it was moved out of the hospitals and into clinics, when they realized how much $$$ they could make. I'm sure some of the regulating also went the way of the dodo bird......

Well I don't think they're hiding it because of the fact that they have three dna. I think it's more or less because it's just not news worthy because they appear like normal Joes. I mean unless they grew up with ten arms, five legs, and four different holes placed all over the place, they can spawn children in less than four days, and they can run at the speed of 40 mph.... that might be all over the news.

I personally do not feel we are playing god, but this is from someone who needed assistance with getting his wife prego. We had to do intrauterine insemination, which is basically the turkey baster method. Everything on both sides said we should be able too, but it just didn't happen for so many years that we asked for help. I do not see anything wrong with it.

As for the clinic in this case, they really messed up. I feel really bad for anyone this would have affected as they are already having a hard time, this just exaggerates their feelings and frustrations even more.

They are hiding it because they are manipulating genes. Gene therapy, stem cell research, cloning .....all of it are *huge* issues....all are related issues.
It has nothing to do with the success, it has to do with the fact they did it without the proper research preceding it.

Try and look it up. You'll see you can only find they are still doing this sort of "research" on monkeys......:action:

I personally believe this is a different issue then just assisting a couple to get prego. I do not agree with the manipulation so you can have a "perfect" child.

Oh, I agree. I see no issue with helping couples who really want children to have them. I just think the clinics have evolved into $$$ machines, and don't have enough checks and balances to over see what the hell they are doing there.....people should not have to worry about where their eggs are!

I was just comparing the carelessness of the clinics to the carelessness of the scientist. Our technologies are evolving so fast, and mankind isn't always ready to deal with what they have the capability of doing.........

I agree with you on these clinics. When my wife and I were going to our dr to assist us, without getting into too much detail, I had to personally label ever jar and tube with my own hand written labels that I then personally sealed up so there could be no mistake because that is a huge issue. Mine is a little different though because we didn't need more then help getting the "stuff" to where it needed to go so no other "processing" really had to happen.

I am happy to say that my son looks enough like me we know he is mine :)

I believe it.

My son had to get labs done to dx his FXS. They took blood FOUR times and FAILED, FOUR TIMES because they screwed up the names on his tubes.....FOUR times!!! I finally yealled at them a number of expletives, and told them they wouldn't get blood from him unless he was already bleeding......

I totally believe it.......

On assisted pregnancy- There's nothing wrong with it. I owe some of my beloved family members to these types of procedures.

On clinical mistakes- Human error is caused by humans, not the procedure. This is like getting angry at the idea of public transportation when the bus driver is late or makes the wrong turn.

On genetic research, stem cell research, transhumanism, human enhancement- Let's do it. What kind of parent wants their child to be less of what they can be? If you could alter diseases out of your child's genetic code, why wouldn't you? The most basic job of a parent is to give their child the tools to survive in their environment. The goal, however, is to give them what it takes to thrive. And as for finding cures or treatments to diseases that will improve the quality of life for many others, why not?

I disagree. It is *human* error, but this is carelessness. It's like saying that if a doctor leaves a tool in you during surgery it's just "one of those things"...People have to be held accountable......

A little to cavalier....:animal3:

Fact isn't that we should "just do it" it's that they don't know what the F*** they are doing. We don't just "experiment" on people. I'm all for understanding and research, but you don't just go balls to the walls and see what happens. That is reckless.

What you are taking is "if's"....... Of course people want to have what is best for their child...but at what cost? Finding a cure thru research...sure ....doing mad scientific experiments on people.....feel free to put your own butt on the line...but you can count me out of that one......:sad3:

I agree. But even in your example one wouldn't want to disregard surgeries altogether. That's sort of what was going on on this thread.

Are you referring to something specifically?

For genetic alterations, every code is different, and there are many redundancies. Cases are bound to be a bit subjective regardless of how many times it's been done. I mean, this is the same for surgeries, drug therapy, etc. Everyone is a little different, there is going to be some degree of improvisation.

Anyway, I'm not sure I know what you're referring to. I'm talking about research that should be done. There are many who are resistant to this and has caused a hamper on research.

yeah, I wouldn't either. I guess I am saying that there needs to be more regulation on the clinics, and more checks and balances in place, to prevent this sort of thing from happening in the first place. It seems more and more that things are rushed into and it;s all about the money, and not about the people involved.

I'm not against research, I'm against the reckless behaviors some scientist have so they are the "first to find THE CURE....." crap. I totally believe we need to do the research and find cures. I just think when necessary steps are skipped so that they can get it out there (be it a pill or to be "the first") it's a recipe for disaster.

I think we are on the same page.....just said it differently :D

lol, sounds like it
