Hi all. I am kinda new to this, so just sharing some thoughts on herbalife.. I started last Monday and its my first week.. I have been battling the bulge almost all my life and this is one more try.... Let's see..... I'm having 2 shakes in the day and 2 salad snacks(no dressing) and a light evening meal (no fats or carbs) I've got around 35 Kgs to lose and i ain't different to any of u here.. I'm really struggling and looking for some support. The question i really have is does herbalife really work..? I've been told u can lose around 4kgs a month.. sounds too good to be true eh..? I want to talk to people using herbalife.? I don't know. 1st week and I have lost about 750gms only. Is that ok? Are we allowed any off days. Do I cut down on this salad snacks? Sorry I am new here and have lots of questions.

4 kg is 8.8 pounds. Average then of 2.2 pounds a week. That is safe weight loss for anyone 220 pounds of above (should aim for 1% of your weight a week). This is far from an unbelievable goal.

I have very strong feelings against Herbalife. It is a pyramid scheme praying off people who wish to lose weight. I hate that sort of thing with a passion. You don't need this stuff. You can lose weight slowly and safely without replacing REAL food with some processed shake. It can be done with the right mindset and it will save you hundreds or thousands of dollars. Heck, look at what you are eating..does that actually sound either tasty OR healthy? In fact, you might actually be taking in too few calories. If we knew more about you like height, weight, gender and typical exercise level then we could help you out.

Does Herbalife work? It works in the sense that it reduces your calorie intake. Does it work as a magic pill? Hell no. Do I personally think you should do it? Hell no..but it is your choice. I think if you shift your mind set from '4kg in a month is possible' to 'ok, let's see what changes I can make that I can do for the rest of my life' then you can do it.

really..you can!

whats best for you.

hi there,iv been on herbal life for 3weeks now and i love it...my problem was i hated thinking about food, what i should be eating and not be eating, some times it all gets abit to much to think about.Herbal life has made it so much easyer for me,2 shakes aday 2 snacks then a meal.iv lost 4kg and about 13cms all over,my size keeps getting smaller every day, well thats what it feels like any way.people all over the world have different opinions when it comes to weight loss, some will agree and some wont,it really comes down to what helps you and what u find best for yourself.I know herbal life is working for me and i will stay with it.All the best

Are you going to stay on it for the rest of your life? Because if you don't, chances are that you'll pile the weight back on as soon as you start eating properly again. Especially since herbalife doesn't teach you anything about portion control, nutrition or...well....anything really.

Hey Monesh,

I'm new here too! I am also using Herbalife and it has been fantastic for me so far. My first week was a little slow, but after that it seemed to pick up. I think your body needs a little time to adjust to taking in good nutrition for a change. I was a very heavy fast food eater before this and on top of that sat in front of a computer all day. That combination led to some serious issues. The fact that you're doing anything, whether it's a program or just tracking normal food intake, is a great step towards becoming more healthy. I'm down 30 pounds which I've never been able to lose in the past. With my normal meals now, I find that because of this system, I'm not feeling the desire to eat as much at meal times.

To add to Jericho's post, do you need the system? Maybe not, but for a lot of people, having a proven system to latch onto to get through the early stages of weight loss is essential to get the mind to change as much as the body. So, if that's what's needed, then by all means use it. It's a good system, it's a proven system - if it works for you then that's awesome. Keep it up! And if you have specific questions, just ask me, I've been doing this for a bit now.

can only try!!!

:hurray::hurray:san...have u tryed herbal life before???you seem to know very little about it,or may be you gave up on it and deem it as just another shake..I know for afact that is dose work,it dose give your body the vitamins & minerals, proteins, carbohydrates and everything else it needs, your still eating food with it as i said before so its not like its shakes only.If herbal life is what it takes for people to get up and start doing something about their weight and learning things along the way such as food, how and what to eat, dont u think more power to them???? cause i sure as hell do..id prefer to be one of those people doing something about it then the ones still sitting at home doing nothing.

Oh wow. Herbalife sounds promising.

Not as a permanent solution, but a nice 'foot in the door' to weight-loss. It sounds like it can produce a decent result in a short space a time. The first 'loss' is going to be my motivation. I'm tempted to use Herbalife to get me there.

What's the deal exactly? What are the 'small' salads and other meals? Are there guidelines? Tell me more. :D

[And good luck]

Wait the author of this topic created it ages ago. Is he still around?

If anyone else could answer my questions I'd be grateful. OR visit my introduction thread. 0 replies so far. :(

Nope, I didn't try it, I have a habit of not buying into pyramid scams and wasting money.

I know enough to know that it is just another 'meal replacement' plan. The shakes on their own do nothing, and if you don't follow a low calorie diet, you lose nothing. So if you can follow a low calorie diet and eat properly, why do you need the stupid shakes in the first place?

And no, they don't give you everything you need, they give you replacements of what you need. The shakes are chemically engineered and haven't got the same benefits as proper nutrition.

Instead of wasting your time and your money on this nonsense, why not sit down and learn about losing weight and eating properly instead. That's what I did - worked miracles, and it was free.

I agree with San and Jericho. This is no different than any other supplement out there that is expensive, teaches you nothing about proper lifestyle changes, and will almost guarantee that you'll put the weight back on once you stop taking it.

Just have to reply

Hi guys-

I just have to reply (and at the same time answer a question someone asked me on my intro thread). When I lost the 60 pounds about 15 years ago, I did it with Herbalife. While it is sold through multi-level marketing (as, by the way, is most insurance out there), it is not a pyramid scheme. It is not magic, it is simply low-calorie nutrition. The goal is to consume less and burn more, and it helps you do that. The shakes provide a ton of good vitamins, minerals, and useful herbs that promote health, not just empty fiber to help you lose weight.

And before you accuse me of selling Herbalife, no I do not. What happened to me was that when I was using Herbalife, I not only lost weight, but I was also able to reduce, and eventually eliminate my need for my asthma inhaler. And no, it wasn't because I was thinner. I have needed an inhaler since I was 5 no matter how fat or skinny I was. I found out after that there are some herbs they use that promote oxygen absorption in the red blood cells- stuff used by Olympic atheletes to give them an edge.

So, you can do the research yourself and figure out exactly what kinds of food to eat and when, then fix your own meals in order to lose weight, or you can let someone else do the research for you- whether it is Nutri System providing you with 'food' meals, or Herbalife with 'shake' meals. The results is the same.

And, after talking about this, I think I'm gonna see if I can find some Herbalife again. I haven't used it in over 12 years, and I need all the help I can get!

Good luck out there. If you have any ?? about Herbalife, give me a try- I'll give you the best from what I remember from before.

Dave

P.S. Have been back on the inhaler for the last 12 years too. Miss those good old days without it...

Oh, and another thing...

P.P.S. The company did provide me with traning and information on how to maintain the weight loss- both using their shakes less frequently, and by making better choices in the kinds of food, and quantity of food I eat. The fact that I gained it back was nothing more than me having a child, getting a new (stressful) job, and reverting to old junk food habits as I made every excuse in the book for why I didn't have time to excercise or eat right. You know, new baby, new job, etc. I stopped using the Herbalife and stopped following their eating suggestions because I got too busy and lazy, not because their ideas didn't work.

Don't knock it 'til you've tried it. I find an open mind always leads to better, faster results.

Dave

It is a pyramid scheme. They have found some shortcuts and legal loopholes to keep on going, but if it looks like a duck, quacks like duck....you get the idea.

Not sure where you live, but where I come from, insurance is sold by insurance companies, not through multi-level marketing.

As for letting somebody else do the work - sure, if you want to depend on the 'system' for the rest of your life, and pay for it for the rest of your life, then that's the way to go.

Personally I advocate things that are less straining on the wallet. Seriously, if you can't be bothered to learn the easiest things about nutrition, and want somebody to just do it for you, you're bound to pile the weight back on as soon as things get difficult. You said yourself that once you stopped following their 'program', the weight came back on.

It's exactly what companies like Herbalife and all the other scam programs bank on - that people can't be bothered to find out what really works for them, and pay money for somebody else to do it. And if people stop, and pile the weight back on, because they really haven't learned anything (or once more, can't be bothered to stick with it), they come back and pay them even more money to do the job for them.

Oh, and by the way....15 years ago, that would be in 1996, right? Let me show you this little snippet:

Most of the original Herbalife weight loss products contained the active ingredient Ma Huang or Sida cordifolia, two herbs containing ephedrine alkaloids. Herbalife stopped using ephedrine in its products in 2002 after several U.S. states banned supplements containing botanical sources of ephedrine alkaloids.[29][30] The U.S. Food and Drug Administration banned supplements containing ephedra in 2004.[31]

Ephedrine is a bronchodilator, a substance that that dilates the bronchi and bronchioles, decreasing resistance in the respiratory airway and increasing airflow to the lungs. Has been used to treat asthma and bronchial problems for a long time now.
There's your 'oxygen absorption promoting' herb. A simple drug. Nothing other than what you most likely have in your inhalator.
Since those drugs are banned as supplements now, I'm sure you won't have the same results nowadays.

Nice try San

Well, I know you think you are close on this one, but no cigar.

There was a product called Thermojectics Green and Beige, which included the herb Ma Huang. And, although they gave me some pretty convincing material to assure me that the quantities were miniscule (they way it was tested, it would take two bottles- a 60 day supply- of these tablets to equal one Sudofed tablet), I never took that because of high blood pressure concerns. Same reason I don't take OTC cold medications.

Now, for those open to learn, the herb is called Schizandra, and it has been proven, and it does work. At least it worked for my asthma.

And, as I mentioned, they do teach to how to keep the weight off after you've lost it. With or without their product. What people do, though, is another matter.

Lighten up San- if people choose to use something because it works for them and makes them look and feel better (and in my case, healthier), don't rain on their parade. And, by the way, do you say the same things to the Asian and other cultures who have been using herbal remedies for centuries? Same herbs, different form. What exactly is the problem with that again?

Dave

P.S. Ameripride, Aflac, Met Life, Northwestern Mutual- all insurance companies based on the pyramid concept- you get a commission on your sales, and your Rep's sales, and their Rep's sales, etc, etc, etc. Seems to me in such a highly regulated industry, if the model was all that dastardly, they would have done away with it by now.

Actually, they have lots of legal fine print that covers their asses. What happened after Pyramid schemes was outlawed that they switch their marketing ever so slightly to fall this side of legal..still bad though.

Also, please provide medical studies and such not sponsored by the company proving these herbs work. I think the community is more likely to believe the mod with experience on the board and a new person supporting a company..

I am a new member here and I have taken herbalife before. I believe it works if you are willing to stick to it like any ohter program. I will be starting herbalife again tomorrow.
I was taking herbalife this feb 2011 until april and managed to lose close to 15 pounds with the shakes and exercising 1.5 hours daily 4x week. I got off it and gained only about a pound or so but it has to do with the fact that I been eating lots of junk food, pizza etc.
I know alot of people that have used herblife and had great results, a lot of people think when you get of it you will gain it all back, so untrue, unless you are eating like crazy and just sitting on the couch all day then of course you will gain it back. Anyone can change their eating habits , exercise and lose weight but once you stop and start eating unhealthy you will gin the weight back.

AI hate hearing people talk who aren't educated on the topic. Herbalife isn't a diet program, it's a nutrition program. 1 shake is a low calorie high protein meal with the protein and nutrition your body should get with one meal. Because of this your body loses weight healthy. Since you also eat 1 Reg meal a day, it teaches good eating habits. You do not get the nutrition anymore in reg fOod because of crap that it is grown with and packaged with so all the people involved with getting food to you can make more money as they don't care about your health. A shake costs 1.50 where as a meal with all thar nutrition costs at least 5. That's a scheme in itself. And by the way, any company is a pyramid think about that smarty.

Herbalife is a life style change, yes, but definitely not a scheme. I have tried everything, and this is the only thing that has worked for me. It absolutely teaches about proper portions and dietary choices. You have your two shakes, plus your small healthy snacks, plus a reasonably portioned healthy dinner. Once you have lost the weight that you want to lose you phase off the diet by switching to one shake a day and 2 meals of proper portion size and proper nutritional value, focusing on having less sugars and more lean proteins...and yes you can still have carbs; you just minimize them and choose healthier alternatives such as sweet potatoes instead of brown potatoes, or whole grains instead of products made from white flower. Once you have successfully maintained your weight while using 1 shake a day and 2 meals, then you can start transferring off the shakes all together day by day starting with 3 meals a day 2 days a week while still having the one shake and 2 meals on the other days, and each week add another day in that you are having 3 meals a day without any of the shakes.
It helps kick start your metabolism while making sure you are getting the nutrition you should be, while also giving you more energy. I was not terribly active the first couple of weeks I was on it, but my diet alone had changed so dramatically, in a positive direction, that just by spending an hour walking 3 days a week, that was enough exercise paired with the diet for me to lose 11 pounds in the first couple of weeks and I felt so much better and my joints stopped aching as much. And I'll be honest, I didn't even keep strictly to the diet. On the weekends I would still have at least one day that I cheated and had 2 meals instead of one, or might have even had something that I was craving, but a much smaller portion than I normally would have.
More than anything, the Herbalife diet is entirely about learning healthy eating habits and portion choices, but while kick starting you on a positive path.
So, no...you don't have to use it for the rest of your life, there are several ways of going about maintaining your diet plan with or without the different Herbalife components available, and it's really not that difficult to stick to because it really does help keep you full and tastes really good. A $30 can of the shake mix literally lasts you a month, so $30/mo is nothing compared to the $300/mo in groceries you would normally spend. So with the healthy snacks and meals I prepare and the fact that I am feeding a child as well, my grocery bill is about $180/mo plus the $30 for the can of delicious shake mix. not bad if you ask me and I am healthier, better looking, and better feeling that ever before.
