fasting for a day

Hi FleurDeLis, Interestingly, when doing a 3-day juice fast, I would find that I felt a bit empty on day 1, but my hunger went on day 2. Remember that you are drinking vegetable juice (which I recommend over fruit juice because of the lower sugar content), and a fair bit of it: maybe 3 litres a day. And when you drink 10 ounces of vegetable juice it does fill you up.

I'm not saying it's like eating a big meal: but the hunger pangs are, in my experience, not as much as you'd expect.

It's just a bit of a leap of faith to not eat solid food if you are not used to that concept... but I assure you you can do it - and survive!

lol, I'm sure I could. But I'm not a fan of vegetables so I think it would be quite difficult for me.

There are certain Holy days within the Catholic Church when we are required to fast. (When I say "we", I'm referring to other Catholics.) The Church defines this as one meal a day, and two smaller meals which if added together would not exceed the main meal in quantity. (EWTN)

While this isn't the same as some of the fasts you're talking about I think it's relevant. This is the only type of fast I have ever taken part of. My reasons for doing so were to please God and to become closer with him.

I don't feel like fasting can help someone who is doing it soley to try and lose weight. Like many have said this will just cause you to become hungrier and most likely eat more than you should the next day. I find the days when I need to fast difficult, but know what I'm doing is right.

I apologize if anyone found this offensive in any way. I'm not trying to preach. I just wanted to give my opinion from someone who fasts for a different reason other than for their health.

Ah. I grew up Catholic and I recall the church lessening the requirements. I never had been asked to fast. Meatless Fridays are a thing of the past and have been for years.

I did know of very religious people who did fast, but that was their personal preference, to aid in their spiritual endeavors.

So you go a few days with drinking only water, you lose 5 pounds. you start eating real food again, oh look you gained those 5 pounds back.

It's temporary because your body goes into a large deficit. It is in no way permanent. Much like the diet pills, drinks and all the other diet medicines out there.

I do sometimes fast for a day. (more than that is too difficult for me) And I find I do not regain the weight if I do not binge the next day and watch the calories. I make sure that on the day following a fast, I eat a lot of protein and, as I said, watch calories, and of course, on the succeeding days. I'm with ya that it's very easy to regain weight lost during a fast, but there are ways to prevent that.

Seems like a lot of people are against fasting....... From personal experience it has been great for my body.

I started with a few shorter 1-2-3 day fasts before doing an extended 14 day fast. Never felt better than after 10 to 12 days of fasting. My mental clarity was sharp and my body felt clean and light. Ego waking consciousness that typically took 15 minutes to clear was now only a matter of seconds.

Please note that fasting is not for weight loss. Your bodies metabolism slows after periods of fasting and can even shut down after a few weeks when there is no food to process. However, when your metabolism is slowed, your body is able to focus on cleaning, clearing and removing excess wastes and toxins from the body's cells. IE, fasting is for healing health related issues NOT for weight-loss.

I use fasting for times when by body is getting clogged, times when you are feeling like you are close to a cold, sore throat and such...... Simple one day or sometimes two day fasts will get rid of impending sickness and allow your body to run properly. I have used fasting to rid myself of a tooth infection as well, needing only two days of water fasting I was able to eliminate my infection.

Fasting is a Tool to use..........
