Facing my worst fear

I usually perform an exam every 2 hours.

Well, I didn't want to sound obsessive ;)

Blood test with a happy ending huh? Sounds interesting...then someone really might pass out though

If they do, I've got my first aid certifications (and some wilderness survival, too), so they're in good hands ;)

I love taking care of people :)

I went Saturday. I just focused on how hungry I was from fasting to make myself slightly less nervous. I'm awaiting my results

It will be sweet mate, I give blood regularly it is rewarding plus you get to eat biscuits after and drink the nicest juice I have ever tasted. I need to ask them what type it is. The problem is that if I do ask them then I will drink it by the bucket.

Anywho......

Yeah, giving blood is a good thing to do. If a person can donate, they really should. And you do get biscuits and juice afterwards ...

Diabetics who take insulin aren't allowed to donate blood. It's too risky :(

Results:

Total cholesterol OK

HDL cholesterol low=35mg/dL
LDL high=138mg/dL
Urea Nitrogen(BUN) slightly elavated (they said this could be from a high protein diet)
...and of course that also makes the BUN/creatinine level slightly elevated

Everything else good

Oh, yeah, over 25 bmi, but who cares about that

Good to hear everything is well with you!

My girlfriend was volunteering at a blood drive, so I went along to help and I donated some blood. The part that SUCKED was.. at the end, where they collect the 3 vials for testing, my blood started clotting and they couldn't get the vials full. So they couldn't test it. So they couldn't use it for medicinal purposes, only research. :(

Well there are actually some numbers I need to change...and one number that concerns me although it is technically in the healthy range is my glucose. Over 100 and you're considered at risk for pre-diabetes. Mine was 97.

My super high metabolism creates a frustrating dilemma for me. I basically eat a high protein, high carb and moderate fat diet all at the same time.

I thought I might try a low carb type diet because some claim they will actually correct cholesterol levels and certainly lower glucose. I checked out the diet Christian Thibaudeau recommends. He recommends 1.5 to 1.75 g protein per lb bodyweight, .5 to .75 g per lb bodyweight fat and less than 50 carbs. Surprisingly these protein and fat numbers are about exactly what I already eat plus a LOT of carbs to get my calories

At the upper end of his formula, his numbers come to about 2800 calories for my bodyweight. I maintain at 4500. Where the hell do I get the rest of the calories? If I divide it evenly I'd be eating close to 500 grams of protein and 240 grams of fat. Can that possibly be healthy?

Gooch, there are many days I eat 500gms of protein and copious quantities of fat. I think you'll be OK, especially since you've got way more muscle mass than I do, and need a lot more protein than I do.

My overall cholesterol is 4.10. Normal is 4.2-5.2 mmol/L.

My triglycerides are 0.55. Normal range is 0.6-2.3 mmol/L
My HDLs are 1.23. Normal is > 0.9mmol/L
My LDLs are 2.62. Normal is 2.2-3.4 mmol/L
My HDL cholesterol ratio is 3.3. It used to be 2.4, but I'm getting old :D

To convert mmol/L of HDLs and LDLs to mg/dl, you multiply by 38.67.
To convert mmol/L or triglycerides to mg/dl, you multiply by 88.57.

So using your scale, my Triglycerides are: 48.71 mg/dl
My HDL is: 47.56 mg/dl
My LDL is: 101.32 mg/dl

As for the BMI Index, I should be dead according to the BMI. I wouldn't worry about it ;)

I feel better today..I just think I over-reacted yesterday. The couple numbers that are off are just slightly off and they listed my overall "health quotient" as "ideal risk"

I'm just going to tweak a few things in my diet rather than do anything drastic.
