Okay! I'm really excited about this. I currently weigh 165. My initial goal is 160 for 7/1/05.

I want to keep track of:

>activities
>calories
>weight (weigh every Friday)
>any useful tips, weightloss advice, whateva

Exercise:
Jogging: Tues,Thurs,Sat (30-45 minutes)
Swimming/Tennis/Walking: Mon,Weds,Fri (45-60 minutes)
Sunday: Chores, whatever seems fun

Calories:
I'm going to try to eat at 8:00(bk), 11:00(lnch), 3:00(snk),6:30(spr)
6:30 pm to 8:00 am seems like a long time to not eat. Maybe I'll throw in a very light snack at 8:15 (when I get home from work).
>1400 calories
>lots of protein and fiber
>not lots of carbs and fat
>H20, yo
>coffee is not a food group... even if it should be.

I might make a menu this weekend for next week. I should also post a grocery list... I'll update at the end of today and see how it all went!

Hey sounds like some good realistic goals! glad you started a diary i find it really helps :) 135lbs is my goal too :D
if you do carbs do em in the form of fruits and veggies or complex carbs (like oats) great source of fuel for your body :p
your exercise looks great!do you do any form of resistance training?(weights)
and yeah coffee should be a food group!!! ;)

welcome (again)i hope we can help you reach your goals :)

Oh! Strength training is something I didn't think about! Umm, I don't really have any weights, and I'm too cheap to go to a gym. I suppose there's always pushups, and I know I have an issue of Prevention with good muscle-building exercises... I'll have to look into this.

I wonder if climbing stairs do much for strength training? There's this great set at a local parking garage.

Curse you, reuben...

DAY 1

I didn't start off very well, but I did a good job of evening it out the rest of the day. I had brunch at a café with my sister. I should have looked up how many calories are in a reuben... It was basically an entire day's allowance of fat. And, since I'm dieting, that allowance is less.

Exercise:
>Walking/Jogging 40 minutes :D
>took the stairs at work

Tomorrow: swimming or tennis

Calories:
Brunch
> reuben w/1 tbsp thou island
900
> 1/2 french fries, kchup
400
> 3 cups of coffee
> half and half
40
> coleslaw
150
Snack
> green beans, 30
60

Work
> bing cherries 1 1/2 cup
140
> vending coffee
70

Snack
> 3 skittles
not worth counting

GRAND TOTAL: 1760!

Well, it's not 1400, but I'll take it. Basically, after finding out how many calories were in that reuben, I couldn't afford to eat anything else. I've certainly learned something today: if you must eat out, stick with what's known to be safe, or find out what's safe ahead of time! Ah, beloved reuben... it wasn't meant to be.

Strangely enough, I wasn't hungry after brunch. I suppose that was because my body was digesting fiftysome odd grams OF FAT! but I'm glad that bing cherries and green beans sufficed.

I have meal ideas for tomorrow, which don't include cafés. Let's lay off on the fat and try and stick closer to 1400 this time!

Overall: :) off to a good start, reuben not withstanding

Oh 1700 cals is not that bad, and it is your first official day, over all i think you did great :)
stairs are great, you could run them as fast as you could, try them back wards ;) (its awesome just be carfull learned the hard way lol)also take them 2 at a time really slow using your leading leg(the one on the upper step)to push up,(you can feel this all the way into your butt its great!)

for resistance training you can do push ups(when you get good at it you can ut your feet up on a chair and do em)lunges, squats, crunches, juming squats are great! some weights or resistance bands are not too expensive and work great. :)

Day 2 & 3

I've been really busy (grr excuses), but I counted my calories, so I'll give a brief overview of my last two days.

Day 2:

Exercise:
Nothing beyond chores and errand running.

Calories:

Around 2500 calories worth of absolute junk! That's not entirely true: I did have yogurt and oatmeal for breakfast, but it was all downhill from there! I get in trouble when I'm out with friends. When I'm home, it's fine... I need to figure out some way to keep myself on track when I'm out and about. Maybe I could write my calorie count on my hand or something to remind me, I don't know. Although, one of my friends knows I'm trying to diet, and I told her "ugh, don't let me have any more of those cake donuts," and she didn't! I tried to get to them and she blocked me!! :) It was really funny, but also very cool of her to do that. That's what I need, a personal "don't eat that!" coach. :p

Overall:  bleh... count it as a mistake and a learning experience, and move on

Day 3:

Exercise:

I was supposed to go jogging, but it was deathly hot outside. I just bought some new DDR pads for cheap online (!!!) so once I get those, I'll have no excuse not to exercise. I did do 15 pushups (yeah, I'm a pansy) and 50 crunches.

Calories:

toast w/j_____________________ 110
yogurt x 3____________________ 330
nectarine_____________________ 90
hot dog w/bun________________ 160
hot dog no bun________________ 70
pb & j _______________________ 210
20 carrot sticks _______________ 105

Grand Total: 1365

Overall: :) I do need to work on exercise. I'm going to try those lunges and squats, (great idea, Smiley! Nice and quiet, so I can do them in the apartment) and there are some resistance bands in the basement (our landlords have a <very>mini gym down there). I won't be too hard on myself, though. The scale on Friday, my weigh-day, said 163 w00t! :D

Day 4:

Thank you Rosered! :) Hopefully it's the beginning of a trend!

Exercise:
>>>40 (???) arm things with resistance bands (I don't know if I did this right!)
>>>40 minutes of DDR :) Good cardiovascular
>>>1 1/2 hours of housework

Calories:

GRAND TOTAL:.......................................... 1478

Overall:  I think I can write today down as a victory. I definitely did all right in the exercise area. I really didn't eat healthily (it was so hot, I wasn't even hungry... until we went out to eat in the air conditioning) and there was a lot of fat in my diet today. I think I should have had a salad at the restaurant. A big salad with lots of chicken, and I could have had all the dressing b/c I didn't eat earlier during the day. Basically, I need to go grocery shopping!!! The one thing I would have felt like eating, even in the heat, would have been fruits and veggies (which would have been better than ice cream bars anyway!). I'm down to some frost-bitten corn in the freezer... Maybe my goal for tomorrow should be to write out a grocery list!

This is for three people, I'm not eating all of this myself! My sister and I figured this out together. We also made a menu using the table function on microsoft word, and posted it on the fridge, so it'll be pretty hard to find excuses not to stick to it! My only dangerous days are going to be around the weekend. There's a renaissance fair we're volunteering for, and they have cheesecake on a stick, elephant ears, etc. Yikes!

Cheese cake on a stick  oh my! :p i love cheese cake that be a hard one for me(didnt know they had it on a stick though lol) looks like your doing good though and thats a great grocery list :)
heres some examples of arm exercises you can look at,(just so you have an idea theres a bunch more on there you can have a look at too :) )

Your grocery list looks good and you sound really motivated to do this. Thanks for posting in my diary and I'm now back and ready to help you along too! :)

Great links, Smiley! I don't have any weights, but some of them I can do with the exercise band thing. I've been avoiding the internet b/c I've been working on my dress for Ren Fest (tomorrow). I'm almost done, and it looks really cute! I just hope it's not too hot...

I've been doing pretty well this week. I've been sticking to my menu (mostly) and exercising almost every night. I'll get back to posting regularly after this weekend... I think it helps.

Today's my weigh day, and I'm holding at 163. :)

Hoooookay. This weekend was........................ It could have been worse. :p I had tons of fun at the Renaissance Festival - my dress turned out gorgeous, and I was constantly getting compliments and people asking if I had made it myself. Well, one lady told me the material looked like her mother's bedspread.... but seeing as how I made it out of old curtains that I bought at a thrift store, I wasn't exactly insulted.

In addition to having tons of fun over the weekend, I also had half of a turkey leg, troll hair (read cotton candy), dragon's blood (read slushie), part of a chicken wing, a couple bites of my sister's cheesecake on a stick (yuuuuum) etc, etc, etc. I did a lot of exercise too, because besides running around all day, I also played DDR for an hour last night and tonight. I can only hope that I burned off the ridiculous amount of calories I consumed.

Speaking of burned, I was working at the children's games for three hours. Forgot sunscreen. My upper back and chest are fried. :( I put aloe vera on as soon as I got home, and it's starting to feel better. I know sunscreen is my friend - you can bet I won't forget it next time!

Aside from that, I had a really good time. It seemed everyone else did, too. There was so much neat stuff to watch and do. I really liked the blacksmith's demonstration - the guy who did it was full of great historical information.

Anyway, my diet starts again tomorrow!

Woohoo! Glad you had a great time! sounds like your dress was gorgeous(even if it used to be curtains lol)sorry about the sunburn that sucks :( i hope your not one of those that peel and get blisters, thats the worst kind of sun burn there is lol....have you tried putting the aloe in the fridge, really soothing on a sunburn(might be a little late for that advice but it does feel good going on :) )glad your getting back on track. keep it up,your doing great!

Thanks for the encouragement, Smiley! Putting aloe in the fridge sounds like a great idea. It shouldn't peel, I think. Hopefully it goes away soon. Those cloudy days are tricky. I didn't even know I was burned until one of my friends mentioned it to me!

So today went pretty well. I probably could have actually ate more, but I wasn't very hungry. Also, I need to pick up some more fruit tomorrow at the farmer's market. It seems I can never have too much fruit around the house! :p I'm still shooting for that goal of 160 by the first.

We ran out of Crystal Light already. I love that stuff! Umm, tomorrow I thinkt there's french toast and pasta salad (we always make it with lots of imitation crab mmm and vegetables) on the menu and some form of salad for supper. I'll probably go jogging tomorrow for a change of pace, especially since we're supposed to have record lows for temperature.

Muah, I still need to go buy some fruit.

Yesterday *was* fine, until my sister came home. I'd played 45 minutes of DDR and I was really hungry... and... she had a ginormous Symphony bar... with almonds... ;-; I love those. I had like 600 calories worth of Symphony bar.

Anyway, today at work, we're having KFC, and I really want to have some, so I had like... sardines and a salad thus far. On the plus side, I already got my exercise in. (DDR for 30 minutes). I'll probably go for a walk after work.

KFC<------- evil little bugger!!! i actually love kfc mmmm deepfried :p

a symphony bar sounds good ive never seen one but chocolate and almonds...mmm excellent combo!(ooo im hungry now lol)

all in all i think your doing good...eating stuff thats not the healthiest for you wont kill you, but as long as you make up for it during the week you should be ok :) (whats DDR? )your doing awesome!!!

Oh!! DDR is Dance Dance Revolution, this game for the PS2 (and x-box and gamecube, but it's called something different on gamecube). You stand on a dance pad and hit the arrows. They've got a calorie burning mode too, and you can chart your weight over the weeks/months. I *love* it, especially when it's hot: I can play in the basement. It's great exercise, but it feels like a game. :)

Yesterday, we ended up having pizza at work instead of KFC, because not enough of us pitched in, so they couldn't afford much from KFC I guess. Anyway, it was reaaaaaaaally good, but I only had a couple of pieces and didn't eat much else, so I think I was okay.

Today, on the other hand:

Thursday, 7/28

Exercise:

45 minutes of DDR w/ Misty

Calories:

med. café mocha w/butter rum flavoring ____________400
1 c. pasta salad w/crab and lottsa veggies yum ______400
Coffee lover's creation w/heath bar_________________700!!!
veggie delight sub w/cheese ______________________350
1 beef jerky stick________________________________80

Grand Total:_______________________________ 1930

Okay, when you look up there, there's exactly one thing that was prepared at home... the delicious and healthy pasta salad we made. 3 things were bought at restaurant type places, and one in line at the store. We were out running errands all day, but still... I need to make an effort not to eat out. I didn't do to bad calories-wise, but it wasn't anything healthy. 'Cept for the sub.

I sort of have an excuse for the ice cream. But then I do for everything!! But, this new ice cream place just opened up today. We went in ('just to check it out', Misty claimed). Anyway, I ended up ordering the smallest size, just a scoop, of the ice cream, which would have been about 360 cals (thank you, calorieking.com). Unfortunately, this somehow translated to 360 cals + a heath bar + a waffle cone. And normally it would have cost like $6 (it's a little pricey) but because it was the grand opening it was free!! :( Friday, Friday, I swear I will be good on Friday! They can open a brand new bakery with all-you-can-eat cakes, cookies, and pies right next door, and I will be good!

I did get a lot done today, though. I got three shirts and three pairs of pants (one pair of silvers!!) for $32 at a thrift store and washed/vacced my car. Anyway, shopping for clothes is great motivation. Shopping for swimsuits is even better... but a bit frightening I think.
