Sport Eating for Abs - Opinions on my diet please

Sport Fitness
Howdy

For the past two months I have kept my diet low in saturated fats and high in protein and carbs. I am still struggling to shift some weight from the waist, but am pretty sure that will go within the next 4 - 5 weeks (I would say that overall I need to lose between 6 - 8 lbs max). I am currently doing lots of cardio including running, swimming, and tennis. In addition I do 20 minute workouts on the abs 3 times a week.

My diet usually includes the following:

Meat
  • Sardines
  • Shrimp
  • Turkey
  • Chicken
  • Lamb

Veg
  • Carrots
  • Spinach
  • Watercress
  • Broccolli
  • Tomato
  • Peppers
  • Olives
  • Mushrooms
  • Potatos

Fruit
  • Bananas
  • Kiwi Fruits
  • Oranges
  • Grapes
  • Strawberries
  • Raspberries
  • Blueberries
  • Dried Apricots
  • Figs

Seeds & Nuts
  • Pumpkin Seeds
  • Sunflower Seeds
  • Seasame Seeds
  • Walnuts

Other
  • Rice
  • Lentils
  • Kidney Beans
  • Wholemeal Bread
  • Porridge (oatmeal)
  • Yoghurt

The last time I ate a dohnut was probably 3 months ago, and I haven't had pizza in over six weeks. I simply don't eat junk any more, nor do I crave it. Shall I keep on the same track, or is there something there I should be removing/or adding?

Thanks

I don't get what Eating for Abs means. Are you pregnant ?

I think he means, that he understands that "the diet" is the key ingredient to revealing the ab core, and wants to get opinions on optimizing his diet to aide his cause.

No, not pregnant. My question was about a diet that would keep me lean and help me shift enough weight to show through my abs (as in abdonimal muscles) whilst still eating enough protein, carbs, and getting the right nutrition.

Your diet looks very clean. The only thing I would do, personally, is ditch the shrimp and lamb. I'd replace them with fish (tuna, halibut, tilapia, salmon, etc.) and lean beef and/or venison.

I didn't see eggs anywhere on your list. I hope you aren't opposed to them, because eggs rock! Other foods that would be good for your goals are healthy (non-saturated) fats like peanut butter, extra virgin olive oil, and almonds.

Nice job staying away from pizza and doughnuts. You'll need to keep that up for awhile. ;)

Thanks. Not sure I could also give up Lamb and Shrimp, but will look to eat a greater variety of fish. Tuna and Salmon are easy enough to introduce into my meals.

As for eggs, I've never been overly keen on them, although I know they are a good source of protein. Might start including some hard boiled eggs in my rice meals. Olive Oil I have every time I have salad, and a touch of vinegar, and that's just about as much dressing as I ever have.

I have to admit that at some point in the future my lust for pizza will return, but I guess once a month will be enough of a treat to keep me happy ;)

Thanks

eating for abs.. I don't see what's wrong with it

eating for muscle
eating for recovery..
eating for abs..

All seem fine to me. Alright it might not be a complete sentence, but it doesn't have to be. Eating for abs simply means that the person is eating to get abs, which would probably be cutting.

oh that's what you're getting at. That is true. However, when most people in the fitness word says "abs" they mean "6 pack", just the way it has become over time.

but there is no reason to be picky about it. We have lots of things that are incorrect in our language. Like you say you weigh for example 100kg, you don't, weight is in newtons, which would be more like 1000N.
Everyone in the fitness world knows that if someone says "I want abs" he means six pack, and as long as everyone understands each other, language has served its purpose in the context of a message forum.

not to me. sound strange. everyone has a stomach. abs are stomach.

This is true; however, they are NOT all gentically built the same. And, "can" take some training (directly and indirectly) to develop them--dependent on the person. Sometimes it is NOT just about lowering BF and can involve variances of diet and training----dependent on the starting bodily position.

And, while we are on this topic. Anyone who thinks (in general) that getting a six pack is easy, needs their head examined. It takes work. It takes dedication. Just like bulking and building muscle can be. If were so dang easy......why isnt there more people being successful walking around with them then? Its because it isnt easy.

A person can learn this fairly quickly (when they view their personal genetic structure) and comparing it to what it honestly takes when using the knowledge from diet and fitness.

One meets the challenge or they don't. And, when you obtain the diet and fitness knowledge to take you home, this is exactly what it is: Either you meet the challenge or you dont (and I am assuming a healthy person when making ths statement).

Sorry, for the brief rant......LOL

right, chillen. that's not what i meant. i meant the abbreviated form of ab is abdomen , not that getting developed stomach muscles is easy.

I know.

Everyone has a stomach, abs, abdomen, blah, blah. But, some have to get it developed enough, and when BF is low enough will reveal the work completed.

For some reason, "some" and I am not singling out anyone when I say this, miss WHY it takes low BF to reveal the ab core.

Do you think that the muscle structure that is constructed encompassing the ab core is so close to the ribs and vital organs--just may have something to do with this?

Check this out......:), LOL.....Rollen abs, baby! (especially the first link)
