****** easter

Btw, sorry if I offended anybody. I'm used to my enraged Religious Education lessons in which turn into full blown war, so maybe I jumped the gun.

My uncle lives in Qatar and says that people who blow stuff up are generally regarded as strangely as people who have venemous snakes in their churches. The point is that despite the fundamental differences, every culture has found a way to reach out to the unknown and try to make this life more meaningful. No matter what a person believes, if he believes in one of the major world religions and follows the teachings of the one who people founded the religion to follow, he will have striven to make the world a better place in which to live. For example, if Christians strive to follow Christ's teachings they will love one another and share what is theirs. In the same way Muslims will give alms to the poor. The list goes on. The problem is that some people manipulate what people believe and get others to do outlandish things. There are cults in the U.S., and the U.K. the 'middle east' is no different. Just because these groups are in the news every day doesn't mean they are very different.

Another thought to consider: If the U.K. had defeated the American colonists when they rose up against the government, would they have been remembered by history as violent extremists?

Oh, btw I'm an aetheist, I just respect religion/ faith for what it encourages in people.

Damn i am quite surprised to see so many fellow Atheist here!

For the record though an atheist and a satanist are not the same thing at all. I don't want any PMs saying im a devil worshiper as an Atheist doesn't believe in a Devil either ;),

You didn't offend me and I hope you didn't think so.

I don't mean this in a mean, condescending or demeaning way, but have you actually sat down and read The Bible?

If you have, then maybe you need to recheck some of the passages you cited. The passage in exodus you quoted happened after Moses went up to Mt. Horeb and recieved the Ten Commandment tablets. He was told by God that the Isrealites talked Aaron into creating a gold calf to worship and God became angry. He ordered his people to cleanse the impurities from their own people.

My point was that although the Christian faith acknowledges the Old Testament, most of our beliefs stem from the New Testament, the scriptures that have to do with healing and simple men teaching the Word of God.

You don't have to believe in God and Jesus to get something out of The Bible, and I know a lot of Christians have no clue what it says either.

There are more atheists and sunday morning Christians around then true people of faith. Nobody can tell you what to believe. Personally, I wouldn't want to bet on whether you're right or I'm right. If you're right, nothing happens... If I'm right, well... read Revelations....

I understand fully what you are saying. Though, i have never read the bible, never had the "need" to.

Heres a wonderful quote about my "religion" :p
If therefore my work is negative, irreligious, atheistic, let it be remembered that atheism -- at least in the sense of this work -- is the secret of religion itself; that religion itself, not indeed on the surface, but fundamentally, not in intention or according to its own supposition, but in its heart, in its essence, believes in nothing else than the truth and divinity of human nature.
Ludwig Feuerbach

This is a very interesting discussion. It's so nice to see people behaving. :)

Personally, I have a hard time understanding true and complete atheism. Agnostic, I can get, but believing there is nothing at all? To each their own.

I saw a bumper sticker once that I liked..."If you believe there is no hell, you'd better be right"

Lol im glad this forum is full of level headed people aswell.
I used to be an agnostic, but in a way being agnostic is like not wanting to choose a side. To afraid to make the commitment in a way ;).

I was thinking the same thing about people behaving :)

That's funny how you say that you're unable to understand atheism as I find it hard to understand how people don't get it! I mean it just seems so natural to not believe in a god but I guess that's just me.

When I was really little I believed in a god cause that's what I was taught. Once I was 9 I realized there was no god and began understanding metaphors, etc. I thought that a lot of people who talked about god didn't take it literally but then I found out that they did. It just didn't seem natural to have faith in that whole religion thing. It was something that was taught to me and had I been taught to be an odin loving pagan I would've came to the same conclusion.

Quick side note - I've read books that talk about parts of the brain that make people more religious than others. Much like the same way that one would be more mathematically inclined than another. I wonder if this holds some truth?

Hell was brought up a couple of times on this thread and that never had any effect on me either. I was never scared of going to hell even though it was often threatened in my household and church. It just seemed so phony.

Yeah, hell doesn't scare me  No, seriously, the idea to me doesn't seem realistic. Just my lack of belief.

*Edit*
Just had a funny thought. I walked into my brother on some gaming forum, probably gamefaqs. And stepped right into a PS3 vs Xbox360 flame war. Then I stopped and thought to myself -

Isn't the stereotype of weight lifters people who are fairly brain dead and angry? And isn't that stereotype mainly used by, no better word really, geeks? Then you see them [geeks] having a huge argument over nothing (well it is fairly apparent the PS3 is having serious problems and the Xbox is so much more 1337)?
I'm kind of using stereotypes now, but I just thought it was funny.

Wanna drive your truck here and help me pick up some tires? I have a place that'll give me some for free, I just need a truck damnit!

I had to bribe one of my friends with a case of beer, because that thing wasn't going on the roof of the lexus lol..

maybe I'll have to do that. I agree, the tire won't fit in the van or the roof of my (probably an older ****tier model than yours) Lex.

I was thinking somewhat the same thing. I mean, fitness type people are usually thought of as high strung (or having roid-rage), though it doesn't seem to be the case.

Maybe they should do some studies on the appearantly calming effects of protein supplements! :p

hehehe, maybe it's cause we're not all hyped up on sugar like the rest of the population (thinking about the "What's bad in these items" thread)

The bigger your muscles, the less chance you have at becoming a good stand-up comedian.

I don't get it?
