Do you reward yourself, and how?

Whenever you reach a goal or accomplish something (either weight-related or not), do you do something special to reward yourself? I go shopping and splurge on something I wouldn't ordinarily buy for myself. :D

Not really. Mainly because rewards/awards are a sure fire way to bring yourself down in the future. The reward should be the ability to do whatever you just accomplished and not anything else.

So if I hit a goal, I just continue doing whatever I just accomplished. If I can do 10 pull ups, then I will do just that as my reward.

Just think about when a child or dog do something good. Do you reward them? I don't because just as soon as you stop giving rewards they stop caring about it.

Dallen is right.

I'm a purist. I don't believe in rewarding myself for attaining goals. If I attain a goal, I have already rewarded my body/mind/soul through the attainment of the goal.

If you catch my drift ...

See, rewarding myself is my way of celebrating an accomplishment that I have made. I don't see anything wrong with it, and it keeps pushing me toward the next goal. But, everyone has their own way of viewing things. ;)

I think it's good to provide ourselves with positive things every once in a while. Constant self deprivation isn't a good thing. A reward can be doing anything that is good for you or makes you feel good.

This is what I was going to say, only less patronizing. ;)

You rep my C~spot good bb. <3

For seriousness, to me, having done the thing IS the reward. That's all there is to it. I don't feel deprived, that I'm aware of anyway. I find the more I do, the greater the satisfaction.

Exactly. There is no deprivation. The self-satisfaction I get from attaining the goal is the "reward".

I don't understand why people need anything more than that.

I reward myself but I try and keep balance. When I was in heavy training a reward might have been some inexpensive impulse buy (non food related) or frozen yogurt, nonfat coffee drink etc. nothing that would "break the bank" physically or financially but stuff that kept me going and I looked forward to. It was necessary for me. Attaining my goals is often expected (type A big time) I need more than that.

I dunno guys....I told myself that when I hit 3,000 miles on my mountain bike I'd reward myself with a newer/nicer model, plus it gave me a spare bike for a friend to ride.

I agree that achieving the goal is a mental reward unto itself, but sometimes there's nothing wrong with a bit of indulging...just so long as you aren't playing little childish games and rationalizing things. It's all about perspective.

The reward to me is the satisfaction that I get from doing my workouts feed the fire baby come on!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:):):)

Also with supplements. Pills matching every colour of the rainbow. Oh and I own many pairs of shoes.

You guys are so "content" and "satisfied" that it's scary.

When my draftee thing is done...I'm getting two tattoos and going for a skydive.

That's my reward...I'm sure I will indulge myself in other things.

You guys need to stop being so satisfied and content and just totally over-indulge yourselves before you die.

:D

I'll pay for the booze and strippers.

I over indulge all the time. It just depends on one's definition of over indulge and how this effects ones health and fitness goals, and where the personal priorities lay. The personal priorities, yes.....what is the priority puzzle for the person, hmm......to each it can be different, but it needs figured out to reach your fitness goals. :)

I'm getting two tattoos and going for a skydive.

I told my wife when I meet two conditions I am getting a tat.

1) Hit 215 lbs
2) Complete my first century ride

Always have wanted one but never could bring myself to spend the money.

Allready did the skydive ..... back when I was 215 lol. Actually might have been around 200 then.

Yes, I reward myself with gear that will help me take what I'm doing to the next level. Is why I have a nice collection of kettlebells at home. :)

I reward myself all the time, I guess I was speaking only of weight training stuff in my first post. This past Saturday, I made ridiculous breakfast burritos...all in all had 2 big tortillas, 8 fat turkey sausage links, 5 eggs, couple ounces of cheese, cup of salsa...prolly a 1,000 cal breakfast. That right there is my reward for working all week, going to my 2 classes, lifting, and sticking to my eating. Then of course there's the steak the night before...the beers at the ballpark, the kabobs on Sunday, wine at night...I love rewards!

I consider the "struggle" a stepping stone "reward" for the ultimate goal "award". More than half the battle is struggling with yourself; instead of looking at with disdain and full of pain, look at it as a stepping stone to attain. If you do, you will one day break open the champaign at the end of your goal campaign.

Good luck everybody.....find what works for you. Its there....find it.

Best wishes
