difficulty getting to the gym

im getting pretty frustrated here, because with my new summer schedule im finding it harder than ever to get to the gym. i dont know exactly what im trying to ask here, i guess i just wanted to vent...any suggestions?

Hey Moma, hang in there! I'm assuming no gym time bacause the kids are home from school? That can be hard, try doing things outside with them, if they're of bike riding age, take them out while you run along with them. Or swimming if you have access to a pool.

Hope this helps :)

Maybe buy some gear for a small home gym setup. Free weights, resistance bands and the like for strength training. Cardio of course is a bit more involved (read: pricey), unless, as noted, you have a bike or can run in your neighborhood.

thnx for the advice guys, yeah the problem is my kid, but also that i have summer school to deal with and work for now, i know the schedule should ease up soon, i just hate that i started going and now im at this standstill, and i can see it in my weight too, i havent lost any lbs in the last week. its depressing. as far as leaving my son with my husband...lol...uve got to be kidding me, i know he wont mind watching him, but i just get so nervous, he will just get on this site or start playing football. lol

I have trouble getting to the gym as well and I'm sure it's even more difficult with children to take care of! When I'm not in the mood for the gym, I usually take a long walk or pop in my push dvd. Do you have any dvd programs that you could use at home?

i work out at home and i love it, never have to wait to use the equipment like u do in a gym. maybe invest in some home equipment, in the long run it'll be cheaper than paying for a membership every month.

yeah i have this video from something i bought online, its called beach body, its a fitness tape, but the problem is i bought it in vhs, and now i only have dvd players, so i gotta go and bye a vcr.

I agree...there's nothing at the gym I couldn't do at home (obviously except for the running which I can do outside). But personally I need to be in the environment because I can't be as disciplined at home (phychological I guess)...

Having said that, there are times when I can't get in and I get a work out at home...:)

I know what you mean. Not everybody has the option but I have set asside the biggest room in my house as my sudio. I got posters of action movies, heros, boxers, martial artists, bodybuilders etc... and I never have trouble getting motivated.
Plus I find it easyer to keep a weight training diary as I use massive sheets of paper pinned to the wall for every months training.

I don't understand why you feel you have to go to the gym. You can work out any time you want with your own body weight. It's always with you. All you have to do is fire off a set of squats, any of the infinite varieties of push ups. If you're at a play ground nock off some pull ups on the monkey bars or a tree limb etc.

Don't use the "I can't get to the gym" excuse because it's the worst one in the book.

Yeah, that's the only thing, I end up carrying around my dairy but I keep it in my workout bag (which we're not supposed to bring onto the work out floor but I do anyway--it's small), I get in really late and usually the room I use in the gym is empty so I have it all to myself...which really doesn't make sense now cuz at home I'd be by myself too...

I think I better stop cuz I'm arguing my own point LOL...or beginning to...

I agree with you on this - One of the reasons I go to the gym is that when I'm there, I'm there to work. When I'm at home, I'm there to rest and play. (This is also the same reason I'll never work from home, nor take work home if I can help it). Preferably never the twain will meet - only drawback is, it IS nice to be able to complete a home workout if you missed your gym time.

to answer moonbeams question...yes we are.
also i dont pay for my gym membership, we use the gym at school, so thats included into our tuition payment, therefor as much as iwould love to get stuff for my home i cant do it.
i agree i shouldnt use not getting to the gym as an excuse because i can walk and such, but as far as weights go, i dont have any at home, so i like going to the gym, besides being there motivates me!

Thats why I have a seperate room at home.

I acctually concentrate more at home. I used to go to quite a small gym, there was two benches and one of everything else. You always had to wait to get on a piece of equipment and I got too distracted talking to people and spotting for them.
Its nice to get home from work, eat dinner and watch TV for an hour, then walk in the other room and bust out some oly lifts. Plus you can shout as much as you like and no one will look at you funny!
