Deschain's Diary

I'm pretty sure I started one of these a long time ago, but I'm going to start a new one. Hopefully, I'll stick to it this time.

So far, I've managed to get off about 35 pounds, and have about 15-20 more to go. The wt loss has been in "spurts" over the last year and a half or so - I tend to go through phases where I feel more or less motivated.

But...I now have more motivation to continue working harder as I just passed my ACE exam (Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant) to add to my cert as a personal trainer.

Funny that a girl who still has 15 pounds to go is a certified trainer and wt management consultant huh. Yeah, well, having two kids 2 yrs apart, then staying home with them, can do that. Somehow, fitness just doesn't come first when one is surrounded by dirty diapers, spitup, Blues Clues and Cheerios. Go figure (insert sarcasm here).

That, and, as I learned the hard way after having kids, knowledge doesn't necessarily equal motivation and willpower. Book knowledge of what to do/not do doesn't amount to much when your emotional state doesn't facilitate meeting your goals.

Now, though, I'm planning on getting back into training part time at the beginning of the year.

Anyway, I hope keeping this journal helps me stay on track (especially with Christmas coming).

Can't wait to see the finished product!

Big congrats on passing your ACE too!

Glad to see you posted a journal. The experience I think will be beneficial in helping you understand the problems your prospective clients will have with motivation etc.

Thanks everyone. I was actually pretty concerned over the exam. I've always been a good test-taker, but, this time, I was afraid that my anxiety might have gotten the best of me. (I spent way too much time over-analyzing questions, which can be very bad). So, I'm very happy that it worked out.

It's been rather embarrassing to even talk about being a cpt since having kids and gaining wt. I'm no longer overweight, I'm in the healthy wt range, I'm just not where I want to be - so it's not as bad as it was when I was overweight.

I do feel, like Stingo said, that my personal struggle with wt gain will help me to better understand what my clients are going through. Having experienced everything from the emotional side of being overweight, to struggling with making diet/exercise a priority while staying home with small children - I feel I can use those experiences to better help future clients.

I haven't been able to workout this week really. (been sick) I did do a bit of walking on the treadmill on Wednesday, but not enough to count for much of anything.

Diet wise - getting back on track.
Keeping my kcals around 1500-1600/day

you will get there honey..
i know how it is like to have small kids, and being tempted by all the food we buy for them .

I actually do pretty well with what I buy my kids. (well, decent anyway)

Their snacks are usually unsweetened applesauce (HFCS free) & natty pb on whole wheat w/ a HFCS free fruit spread. The worst they get is the cookie/cracker stuff like animal cookies and wheat thins - which, while it's not perfect food, is still a far cry better than most things kids eat today.

Basically, any choc chip cookies or Oreos they get are the odd treat - for two reasons. One - b/c that's not how I want them to grow up eating; two - I can stay away from animal cookies and graham crackers, so I'm not tempted to munch since I don't like them anyway.

Although - I have to admit I can't resist munching on some Kraft MacNCheese from time to time.

Sadie - exactly which baby food are you eating?

Why buy it for them?

Back when I was training, I once had a lady who was having trouble with her eating. She said it was way too hard to stay away from the sweets and such of her kids'. I suggested that she try not to buy as much of that for her kids, b/c it would make it easier on her to lose wt, and would be healthier for them, and instead try to ease into getting healthier snacks for everyone. She looked stunned. She informed me that that wasn't an option, b/c you have to buy that for kids. ----like it was a requirement or something.

There's caramel pudding baby food?! you're kidding. Wait, or do you mean regular pudding? ---- don't confuse the blonde girl.

My youngest is under 2 - but I never bought the dessert baby foods, so I don't know what they do/don't have in that area.

Today isn't going to be so great diet wise.

My 4 yr old is in his first church Christmas play today. My parents and inlaws are going to church with us to see him, and we'll be going out to eat afterwards.

I'm not worried about it though. I'll just do the best I can, and enjoy my little man's big day.

Monday

I made it to the gym this morning. It felt so good to get in there and workout. It seems like it's been forever.

Diet is going well so far today - kcals and macros are in check.

I've lost a pound since Wednesday - so yippie.

Workout was?
