Controversial "Muslim Massacre" game

I always like looking at the looks on the opposing teams faces when they're watching the All Blacks doing the haka ... ;)

You can't tell me it isn't a little bit intimidating. You can smell the testosterone in the air when the All Blacks are doing the haka ...

Its meant to be intimidating I dont care what any french culture expert says. From when we were 5 and old enough to learn the haka we were always taught about intimidation and respect.

Im from the east coast and the iwi that I descend from is Ngati Porou. That means our Haka is Tika Tonu. Theres some Videos of it on youtube but none of them are very good. If your ever over here Ill show ya haha

OK. I'm coming to New Zealand NOW :D

Seriously, the haka is the last bastion of raw male power left on this planet. Everything else pales in comparison. And I'd love to see it.

And Maoris have the coolest tats on the planet, too. The designs blow me away.

To me the Haka is very much like "Stompin' the Yard." I'd be a lot more impressed if they just rolled the whole opposing team, instead of standing there barking a big game. Toy poodles can do that.

I had never heard of Haka before, but watching that video it reminds me a lot of the dancing I saw when I was visiting Rapa Nui (Easter Island). They do very similar raw motions like that when they are dancing out the stories of warriors.

Lol I bet when we were killing the europeans (pakehas) with our taiaha they didnt think we were stomping the yard.

See the difference between stomping the yard and doing the Haka is culture and tradition thats been round for centuries.

Yeah, I'm sure the 30 people living in New Zealand are a truly terrifying assemblage. Almost as scary as fighting an army of Mohicans!

The Maori were practically decimated by the British. When Britain ruled the seas, they decided it would be a good idea to venture forth to seek out and destroy any new life forms that got in the way of colonization (kind of the antithesis of Star Trek!).

The British weren't very nice about how they colonized. If the indigenous people weren't killed directly by weapons, many would be killed indirectly by contracting disease. Not exactly a proud moment in the British half of my ancestors history.

All that really matters is that the Maori survived despite the Pakeha, and that we all get to benefit from their culture. Kiri Te Kanawa has a beautiful voice ... Maori art is magical ... Maori history is nothing less than amazing, and Maori culture is simply awesome. We can all stand to learn a lot from them and by doing so, we end up learning more about ourselves.

Yeah. Maori rock ...

I like Polynesians, too ;) I'm always amazed at how well they travelled the South Pacific 3500 years ago ... how the heck did they know where they were going? Blows my mind :)

Maori are Polynesian.

Navigation was done with the aid of stars, water currents, wind, cloud formations, birds, etc.. In modern times, voyages have been recreated, using ships of similar design as the ancient voyaging ships, and the used of traditional Pacific navigation techniques without the use of modern instruments.

Very cool :) Thanks for the info, tjl ;)

I knew that Polynesians were the ancestors of the Maori, but I never considered New Zealand to be a Polynesian Island. I'm not sure why ... although now that I think about it, New Zealand must be part of Polynesia if Hawaii is considered part of Polynesia, simply as a result of the common ancestry. I really don't know enough to say anything definitive ...

I don't think many nations colonized in a friendly way. We're still pissed off at the Vikings :D

Back to the original topic, I'm very curious about this topic. I know that Americans are very proud of their 'Freedom of speech' protected by the first amendment but that amendment has since been altered to ban defamation or incitement to riot. Surely a game that promotes genocide through ethnic cleansing could be classed under defamation at least?

What about Gaius Julius Caesar?

America is the land of the free. The freedom to do what you want as long as you can sue the living daylights off of anyone - 3 out of 4 lawyers in the world are in America. If the developer who made this game was a big corporation with a $100 mill budget, they would have brought some legal hounds in.

Looking up on the game this is what the developer Sigvatr had to say :-

Sigvatr said:
I can't tell who should be offended most by this; Muslims, or people who are afraid that it will offend Muslims.

His profile states I MAKE MONEY FROM MASS MURDER

Why can't the same guy make this statement?

"Encouraging children and young people to kill non-muslims (or even muslims in collateral damage) is unacceptable, tastless and deeply offensive."

The message I'm trying to put across here, is get the hell over it. We have bigger issues (such as the situation of hate being preached to kids in mosques) so maybe these muslim leaders (or the majority of muslims) who don't believe in all of this Jihad business could speak out about that instead. Why don't these same guys make statements such as the above about blowing up innocent civilians, muslim or not. They need to sort out the freaking priorities and let the idiots who want to make moronic, low budget games do it without this kind of media attention.

Nearly everyone who has negative say about games are the ones who never tried it. I mean they sort of listen to the wrong people and give half-truths.

A recent example would be Grand Theft Auto 4 and the whole debate about sex and violence. The short version of it was that you can date women, then at the end you have to kill them to get money. Anyone who played the game would know that this isn't true. Even more so, I remember ages ago Mechwarrior was described as the most violent video game in history according to one congress man.

As for this Muslim game, I'm pretty sure that unless you try it out for yourself, you really have no say about it. I mean the creators might have possibly made it to make a political statement or something else. I haven't tried it so I really have no say. I do know there are many terrible people out in this world, but I do know sometimes it's nice to be cruel.
