Context-Specific Thinking

Nice

Great article. When I think of people asking questions about weight loss or specific foods to eat, I immediately use myself and my situation to determine that I think is good advice.

Note to self: Not everyone is like me. Not everyone on this site is super obese with huge health concerns. Some have a small ammount of weight to lose, some just want to tone up their trouble spots, some just have incredibly poor body image and actually should not lose any weight.

We're all different, context is everything. Great read.

A most excellent article. Everyone who posts or comments on posts on this or any other forum should definitely read that!

Agreed Stacy. People, especially in the world of weight loss, believe there are rules and laws that always apply. More often than not though, they only apply to specific circumstances. That's why my answer to almost every question here is, "it depends."

That's a good answer, because you're right, there are no definite answers for every and all situations. I see some of the moderators on this site arguing with other moderators over what is accurate and what is not accurate weight loss information. We should all remember that there is no 100% right answer for every situation. :)

Anyway, the article has definitely been a big eye opener for me. Thanks a million for posting it!

yeah i noticed that. people claiming there is an absolute way of losing inches and shedding pounds but as a matter of fact, it does vary from individual to individual. great post, thanks for reminding me. :)

This is a good article to read before asking questions or handing out advice or considering a diet or training program.

Yeah.. Great article... More heads are better than one... :)

This is the first post I've read on this forum and I have to say I'm impressed. A very logical approach and I love the analogy.

Wow Steve, that is an excellent article. It is encouraging as a newbie to read this as my first post. I have long believed there is no one diet that fits all. I feel to that sometimes there are underlying issues that can be addressed when considering eating for comfort, or other addictive reasons. If there was one simple solution, weight loss would be a "piece of cake". Something has gone so wrong with the SAD (Standard American Diet), the level of stress in our lives, and the lack of health so many are experiencing today! I like the thoughtful tone of your article.

That is a great article. I don't know how many times the words "it depends" have come out of my mouth.

Hello again, and a big thank you to all those suggestions and tips I have been reading. I have started to look around on the Internet, to tell the truth I am overwhelmed by the amount of get fit and lose weight stuff there is, any suggestions please? Has anyone tried any of these programs and do they work from home?
Joss

don't let yourself get overwhelmed. fact is weight loss really is as easy in calories in calories out...eat less, move more. Try making little changes in your diet and start exercising a bit...then increase exercise and decrease your cals a little every week. I know its super generic information, but for people who do get overwhelmed easy, thats where they can start.

Hi Everyone! I'm new. Just wanted to say hi. I'm hoping this site can help me find the motivation and support I think I need to stay on a plan and stick to it.

Hi all,

First tweet ever. Found the forum after "jogging" around the net for a while. Have had some success still some to go. Seems a common theme is weight loss is a marathon not a sprint, and water and even a little exercise to start seems to help. Good Luck to us all.

Hi new Member here.

I have read Steve article which it is helpful and it's understandable that every situation it is different. but generally speaking some how the standard must be set to set a basic rule.
As far as saturated fat the number 1 cause is fast food franchises did anyone look dip inside those kitchens, they cook with grease that it get clean over and over dip fried not healthy for anyone even for the best athletic person not to mention the hormones and pesticides cause by the fast paste growth of population, making chickens, turkeys, cows and other meat and poultry animals where we consume to grow faster, because of the demands, we have to look into that to consider our ways to be healthy or to change our healthy life.

and hello to you. How about making a post over in the Newcomer thread to let us know who you are and why you are here :)

I'm guessing you are a vegan based on your railing against meats.
