Confusion about my weight loss so far...

I've been on a weight loss program for about a month now and lost 8 pounds, most of it in my first week. Since then I've only been losing about a pound a week, even though I'm only eating about 800 to 1000 calories a day and exercising (alternating between cycling and weight lifting)

I'm not expecting results as quickly as they were in that first week but I feel like I'm stuck right now, that its getting a lot harder to lose weight and that soon I won't even be losing my measly pound a week. What am I'm doing wrong?

Why do you think hat 800-1000 calories is a good idea?
What are your current stats? ie age/height/weight

Have you read any of the stickied threads on the forum?

Its not really that I think that it is a good idea to eat that much, I'm trying to aim for a more healthy 1,200 to 1,400 but I just can't seem to get myself to eat that much anymore.

I'm 18, 5'6 and currently weight 194 pounds.

I've read the sticky threads and I'm afraid I'm might have hit my plateau which is why I ask for advice.

why can't you get yourself to eat more?

What are you currently eating and h ow are you keeping track of your calories?

Plateaus are doubtful... especially not after a month... Keep track of what you're eating - use a program l ike to really help you keep track and make sure you're measuring what you're eating...

I'm not sure, since I've been dieting by appetite has gone down considerably. I just simply don't have the desire to eat anymore which is strange because not wanting to eat certainly isn't how I got to this point.

I'm currently just trying to eat more protein from fish (preferably raw) and lots of fruits and veggies while cutting out processed, fatty and sugary foods. I monitor my caloric intake through livestrong.com and read food labels closely.

Great work in cutting out sugary and processed foods and in eating more lean protein, fruits and vegetables. The protein and fiber from the fruits and vegetables may be contributing to your decreased appetite. You may be feeling full longer, which is a good thing for weight control. This is just a guess, given that forums can be difficult to determine what’s really going on.

Is there any way to sneak in some calories to increase your intake to 1200-1400 calories? Like eating some nuts, drinking skim milk, eating a Cliff bar? Eating less calories can mess up your metabolism.

Losing a pound a week is healthy. Weight loss is not a race. Losing a pound a week and maintaining healthy eating and exercise will help you keep the weight off. You’re working too hard to have to lose weight again.

I'm lactose intolerant so that also limits my intake to some degree, but having snacks like nuts or cliff bars should be easy for me.

I certainly want to be able to lose weight and keep it off so upping my intake so I don't ruin my metabolism is a major goal. Thank you for the advice! :)

I am lactose intolerant and it has never affected me, I don't see how that would limit your intake.

You can buy lactose free yoghurt, and you can substitute milk for soy milk. Most cheeses don't contain lactose.

But honestly, I am not a big fan of milk anyway - milk is for cows and infants!

You really need to eat more than 800-1000 calories per day. If you are feeling full on that maybe you are underestimating your calories?

Sounds to me like your caloric intake is way too low. Your body is probably holding onto every ounce of fat for dear life because it's going into starvation mode. Even still, 1-2 pounds per week is the healthy way to lose.
