well social studies is the only thing I know to say to make you understand a bit about what it is. Maybe it's wrong, here it is:
Politics, how the countries are governed, houses, etc; Media, what media are there, importance of it, etc; social services, which ones are offered in the different countries, etc; education, how is the system built up, etc.. + a lot more. Oh and half the book is polling numbers
