Hey guys. I posted on this forum a couple of weeks ago and was told to check out the diaries section as maybe a way to help keep myself motivated and accountable. To summarize what brought me here; I was anywhere from 180 to 200lbs in high school {depending on the year), active and in good shape. I graduated in 2012 (my oldest daughter was also born) and pretty much let myself go. Got up to 315 and decided to make a change in 2014. I busted my butt and dropped weight to 260lbs and (though I definitely could have lost more weight) I was in the best shape of my life. I met a girl at the beginning of 2015 (now my wife) and we got comfortable and complacent and now I weigh 367.4. Not good. I have started making my way back into the gym slowly and trying to get back into the swing of it. Its like I'm starting an old engine that hasn't run for years.

Hey Marc, I just replied to your other thread... Welcome to the diaries! If you take a look at some of the other diaries, you might find some things that have worked for other people and may work for you! You get to decide what you want to post and how often. Generally, if you interact and help support other members, you'll likely get more people popping in on your thread to check in on you, which can be helpful. Good luck and I look forward to seeing your posts!

Hi Marc and welcome! I see you already have a lot of experience losing weight successfully so you have a good chance of doing it again. One word of warning: busting your butt works short-term but for long-term success you need to find strategies you can keep up long-term. Be kind to yourself and make changes you can maintain for a life-time while still having fun :)

Absolutely! I hope I can find some accountability and guidance, as well as helping move others. I'm excited for this journey, again! Haha

You're absolutely right! Here's to better habits and better lifestyles!

Hey guys! So I'm slowly getting back to it. I hit back and biceps Tuesday, and I'm still feeling it in my lats haha. It feels good though. I didn't go yesterday, I know I should've. I'll go today, and hopefully do legs and some core work. Lord knows I need it. Friday's plan is chest and tri's, which I'll be doing with my brother in law! He's a great influence and sort of a role model for me (he's about 15 years my elder) and I'm thankful to have him in my life! Let's do this!

I'm trying to stay active in here as much as I can, I wish there was an app lol. If there is let me know! I am overjoyed this week, I have noticed my strength start to return, and I am able to go heavier and heavier each week. I love it! I am trying to change my eating habits and work on appetite control. My sister-in-law (who is another great motivator for me) does sort of intermittent low-calorie keto diets, and she is a testament to will power and self control. She, as is the same with my wife (her sister), take after their dad who is a little more plump lol. My sister in law decided to make a change and now she is in AMAZING shape. She's a real-life example of the possibilities. Any advice how you guys control your appetite or cravings?? Any go-to meals you love??

Thanks for being a great community guys! I appreciate it.

Welcome back!

I agree about wishing there was an app. This forum used to be on Tapatalk a couple years ago and that was pretty convenient.

I was actually going to put the question out there of whether or not Tapatalk would be something people would use... I wasn't sure how many people used this forum on mobile. If there is lots of interest, it could be a possibility!

As for controlling cravings... As much as people want to rely on sheer willpower in order to not eat certain foods or not eat certain amounts of things, I usually do not suggest treating foods as "good" or "bad." Or trying to be overly restrictive in your daily diet. A lot of "staying under control" comes from taking the time to sort out emotional attachments to specific foods, figuring out overeating triggers, and really analyzing whether or not you are actually hungry. Another big component is to have some plans in place for food options and/or portion sizes for the non-everyday situations like parties, going out for dinner, last minute meals, etc. It's boring but there really is a lot to be said for moderation! The more you try to cut something out, usually the more problematic the craving for that thing becomes!

Last time Tapatalk was enabled it attracted a heap of spam

My main way of combating craving is eating enough calories - and enough things I genuinely enjoy eating.

I feel like, for me, eating makes me feel happy. Kind of how a smoker smokes when they're stressed out, I feel like I turn to food. I have never truly been on a clean, healthy diet. When I was exercising in my "hay day" I ate well, and probably less, but I still enjoyed fast food pretty regularly. I know it sounds silly but it kind of makes me sad thinking of not eating it haha.

Nothing silly about it! It's normal to want to have things you're used to and which you enjoy. And it's absolutely possible to have fastfood sometimes and be healthy - just not larger amounts several times a week.

Hi Marc, It took me a while to control cravings and it mostly happened a few weeks after I cut sugar out of my diet. I think for me, stabilizing my blood sugar had a major role in reducing cravings.

I've also learned that eating fruits with high water content helps me in rough craving times, e.g. melons.

When I'm studying for long hours I keep a mug full of water with chia seeds soaked in it next to me; I think the chia seeds help a lot to feel full for a long time and stop me from snacking.

I'm sure you'll learn soon what works best for you. Good luck :)

i can't think of anything i can get at a FF stop that i cannot make 10x more healthy at home. if you don't think there is added sugar in EVERYTHING FF, you're just fooling yourself. i limit FF purchases to senior discount coffee .... period.
