Christmas Party Survival

It’s Christmas party season and I was hoping some people might have a few seasonal survival tips. I have a department night out tonight and an office one next week, followed by Christmas itself the week after and then New Years. I’m finding it hard enough as it is to stay on track with my diet without having thousands of alcohol calories being added.

Anyone know which drinks are the least calorific?

This thread can also be used to post embarrassing Christmas party stories and pictures if you like :D

If you must drink, Bacardi Light & Diet Coke has about 60 cal.

I don’t think we have ‘light beer’ here in the UK.

Does anyone know if the ABV content of beers is related to the calorie contents?

Awesome.

Enjoy yourself and work extra hard in the gym. Life is about balance. 2 or 3 nights out arent going to ruin all your hard work, just be sure to keep yourself on track the rest of the time and dont turn this into a habit.

Yep, the more alcohol in it, the more cals. Which is why a shot of whatever essentially has almost the same amount of calories as one beer. 1 oz shot, yet 10 times the alcohol. Each gram of alcohol has 7 calories I believe, dunno how to derive how many grams of alcohol are in a beer though. Just drink and be merry, screw it.

of course it is.

alcohol contains 7 calories per gram of alcohol, making it almost as calorically dense as a gram of fat.

plus it screws with insulin and blood sugar.

beer also contains other carbohydrates (that lends sweetness, maltiness, and body to the beer).
that's why Bud and the big breweries have those stupid "65 calorie bottles" now of ULTRA light beer.

beer can be calorie free though...you just have to drink enuf, fast enuf, that you puke it all back up before the body can process it into energy.

Dry Christmas party here so no need to worry.

How ****ing lame.

Our xmas party is not a party. It's a luncheon in our conference rooms (not enough seating for everyone), with a grab bag at the end. We are dismissed from work when it ends at 3 pm (on Xmas eve...can't imagine attendance will be all that high!)

THAT'S LAME!

While some are swimming in their beer, and their post hang-over tears, I will be singing the holiday cheers, and as my goal nears. I do not have any goal fears, and its been this way for years.

I do not drink (365 days per year, by personal choice).

I like my party's dry.

While others like them wet.

Then I watch them cry, as their livers fry, and they wake up in the morning and the hangover: Says hi, and fat loss says a "temporary"......goodbye.

Some who drink are rather funny.

Oh! Lets party! Have a great time! (they do), and then the next day......"Oh.......my head hurts, I am sick, and dehydrated, I am never drinking again!"........Only to repeat the process (LOL).....funny-shiat.

One can enjoy the holidays, and Christmas without requiring alcohol.

Is that normal in the States?

Our Xmas party is always at a high-end hotel because they reserve rooms for us so that when some people get so drunk and actually contemplate screwing somebody at work, they have someplace to take their bounty.

Our party is tonight at the Hyatt Regency. I highly doubt anybody will be at work before 10:00am tomorrow, if they show up at all.

Everything is paid for. The meals are unbelievable. It's a pretty big deal, and most of the girls get all decked out in some wicked dresses, shoes, etc., and the guys either wear high-end suits or rent tuxedos.

However, all that money spent on clothing is sometimes a waste. We have been known to really let loose once the senior partners and their wives have left. That's when we tell the photographer to get lost because there is no way we want any photographic evidence of our Xmas misappropriations.

depends on the company. Ours is usually a pretty high class dinner with open bar. the past couple years we've been getting bigger bonuses with smaller parties which is fine by me. I don't like to waste a friday night on these ****tards I work with anyway.

I know -- sometimes you just don't want to party with your co-workers. In that case, we mill about and find other people having parties and then we crash their parties.

We do the same thing on New Year's Eve.

Here's an old Norse saying that my friends dad used to tell us (with tongue firmly planted in cheek): "Ten thousand Swedes ran through the weeds, at the battle of Copenhagen. Ten thousand Swedes ran through the weeds chasing one Norwegian."

I'm assuming that one Norwegian was Karky wielding his Viking axe ...

Har en god jul! (Have a good Christmas!)

It depends. My first company rented out a large catering hall and provided a 5 course meal and open bar. No hotels unfortunately so that made the drive home to Philly a downer as the party was in Delaware.

I don't particularly agree with my companies viewpoint on our holiday party. its not really my call, but frankly it sucks.

Yeah, it's kind of like the "Anti-Xmas Party" :(

I guess they do what they can. What ticks me off is companies that have pissy-@ssed parties for the staff, but the Presidents, CEOs, CFOs, etc. get 7-figure bonuses.
