Chris's diary

Legs & shoulders today and, overall I'm extremely pleased with the progress I've made. I added a 4th set to squats and dropped the weight by 20kg for the final set and went A2G. First time I've felt it in my quads like that.

Reverse flyes also saw an increase and a 4th set, as did lat raises.

45mins on the X trainer for good measure and, now I have that warm tingly feeling all over from a job well done :)

Treadmill arrives tomorrow so, I'd better wash the mud off my running shoes!

Nice one ebay!!

I won the auction for the powertec gym :D

Should be able to collect it next week which will be the perfect time to change my workout routine.

Not again?!!

It feels like I pushed my shoulders too hard yesterday and I have woken up with a very painful shoulder. Its not the same shoulder that I injured earlier in the year but, the pain is similar, albeit not as severe.

I am hoping that its just a temporary twinge and will make the decision tomorrow whether or not to train or to give it a break. If its still painful, I will probably train but with lighter weights and concentrate more on cardio than weights.

Well, today my left arm is in a sling and I spent the best part of last night holding an ice-pack to it. More precautionary than anything but, it is definitly too sore for me to train anymore this week :(

I'm still going to do what I can - weighted crunches etc. and, I found last night that it isn't effected by running on the treadmill so, I'll be able to get plenty of cardio in. The new treadmill is excellent, did 45mins last night (had some mild shinsplints 5mins in but, ran through them okay). It goes up to a 10% incline and 18kmph max (which is pretty much a full sprint for me) so, I HIIT shouldn't be a problem. It weighs a tonne and getting it upstairs yesterday can't have done my shoudler any good but, I intend to fully rest it now until next week and hope that it improves significantly.

I hate not being able to train - I'm not a happy bunny atm

Its been picked up by one of my drivers at work so, its sitting in our warehouse down in Wales at the moment. I have a delivery due here next Tuesday so, thats when it should arrive :) I think I'll have to get some new olympic weight discs too, a lot of mine are standard. Can't wait to get training on it!!

My shoulder has improved significantly overnight so, looks like it was just a strain or something. I'm still going to be careful and not lift until next week if I can manage to resist the weights later but, at least its not going to put me out for months which is what I was afraid of!

Did another 45mins on the treadmill last night and will do another 45 tonight (its still a novelty so, I've been neglecting my other cardio kit!) - then, next week I'll start mixing up the cardio again.

Did chest & triceps tonight but, kept the weights lower than usual so as not to aggravate my shoulder. Did another 45mins on the treadmill and incorporated some inclined intervals. Really enjoying the running atm.

Rest day tomorrow.

Brief update - Saturday was a total rest day. Sunday was about 45mins on the treadmill and yesterday was back & biceps and more cardio. I took it quite easy on the weights as my shoulder is still a little sore.

HIIT tonight and, my powertec gym arrives today :)

Well, I didn't do any HIIT last night because when the powertec gym arrived, it was immediately obvious that it was going to take hours to put it all together!!

Its all in place now and it is absolutely HUGE!! My spare room now looks more like a professional gymnasium than a bedroom, in fact the bed looks completely out of place!!

I managed to pull a muscle whilst carrying it up 2 flights of stairs (it weighs a tonne!) so, I'm pretty much the walking wounded today. Still, that isn't going to stop me from doing a chest & triceps workout with my new toy tonight :D Can't wait!

I've been noticing signs of progress recently. Most of my jeans are practically falling off me now so, I shall need to go and do some clothes shopping pretty soon. Still managing to avoid the scales and still feel like I'm making progress without being a slave to numbers :)

Congrats on your new equipment! Sounds as if you got a workout just setting the thing up and a weight/cardio workout carrying it upstairs......LOL :)

And most importantly, your progress! Its a good feeling when the pants are a less tight and you have to start thinking on buying new cloths, isnt it?!

Chris keep knocking the stuff down, man.

And.............

KEEP ROCKEN!

:)

You're absolutely right, I was exhausted afterwards!!

New toys are always a blast - congrats on your progress too.

The new toy is amazing!! I was able to train my chest to failure last night without any worries of safety! I was also able to use it for dips so, won't need to buy a dip station. I've ordered another 80kg of olympic discs as I found I was moving my disc from station to station which was a pain. Can't wait to try the squat station tomorrow :) Here are some pics of what I can only describe as a 'beast' of a multigym!! Thank you ebay :D

These were before I put it together

These were about 2 and a half hours later! lol

I no longer have any excuses not to train!!!

Finally got around to HIIT today and managed to increase the ratio from 1:3 up to 1:2 - 5 mins warmup, 15 mins intervals, 5 mins cooldown. It was hard work but, thats the idea I guess.

Took some progress pics and, I'm extremely pleased with them compared to a month ago - I'm amazed actually! Makes all the hard work worthwhile :D
Not going to post them up for a couple of months as I intend to post 3 months progression in one go, assuming I've reached my interim goals and am ready to start bulking.

That was an awesome workout! The squat station is amazing - I just felt I could go much lower than usual and felt my quads burning. Had the chance to do some leg curls too so my quads are going to be painful in a couple of days!! I avoided any flyes on my shoulders to give the tender sections a break and opted for some extra shoulder presses and shrugs instead. I'll definitely need to get some more large weights as it does get a bit tedious moving them all from station to station. I clearly need a weight tree aswell as they are currently all over the floor!! Calf raises on the squat station were very good too, very isolated, I could really feel it.

Did about 35mins on the treadmill afterwards (leg workout, then running? Ouch!). Feeling good right now.

Have decided to post my progress pic from yesterday as I can't see the point in keeping it to myself for another couple of months. Posting it should help motivate me to make even more progress!! I should point out that, when it was taken, I hadn't done any lifting so my muscles aren't pumped (not that they look it either, lol). I'd just finished HIIT on a stationery bike. I'm amazed at what I've already achieved in only 5 - 6 weeks of training properly again. There is no doubt in my mind that the diet is largely responsible. Here goes.....

I've definitely dropped a good amount of bodyfat and muscular definition has increased, especially in my chest and upper abs but, realistically, I'm still some months away from where I want to be.......watch this space

Congrats on your success!

Your trucken right along man! Great Progress!

Thanks Chillen. I'm happy all my efforts are bearing fruit :)

So much for a rest day today, did 5 miles running - a bit quicker than I'm used to. Kept on afterwards to bring the time up to 45mins. I really do struggle with rest days if I have nothing else to do!

Will rest on Monday instead...

I have decided today will be my rest day as its also my cheat meal - I figured why not treat myself and combine hte two :D

However, I will be walking to the supermarket (about 2 miles each way) to pick up provisions: beer, steak, jacket spud and 250g of peanuts. All ready for UFC77 tonight (yes, I know it was last night but, here in the UK we have to wait a day!!)

Did another 5 miles on the treadmill on Sunday. Yesterdays workout was good and bad - back and biceps. Deadlift weight increased again, arm curls on the powertec are really good, biceps are hurting today (but, in a good way!). Whilst doing lat pulldowns, I felt a pain in my shoulder and it is sore again today! If it carries on the way it is at them moment, I may have to take a full week's rest from lifting weights which I would rather not do unless I really feel there is no other option.

Then, on the treadmill, my shinsplints occurred again after about 15 mins, in conjuction with a really bad stitch. I had to stop and switch tot he cross trainer for 15 mins, by which time I was fine to carry on running on the treadmill (for another 15 mins). I'm going to take a break from the treadmill tonight as I have been neglecting my other equipment so, HIIT on the cross trainer is the plan.

I find HIIT on the cross trainer much harder than on the bike. Reverted back to 1:3 ratio, did 9 or so rounds with a 5 min warmup and 10 min cooldown.

Shoulder feels good today, just in time for a good chest workout tomorrow :)

Holy cow !!!!!
