very very true that sux for new members

I wouldn't care for paying BUT I would want to know how good the site is before I pay :p

They need one of those registration systems where you have to type in the characters displayed in a graphic, where the graphic is so screwy looking that a computer OCR program couldn't read it and punch the numbers in. Lots of php based BB's have this already..I think this site just needs to upgrade their software.

maybe, email verification can be used, and whoever advertises by spam, their email can be posted, and they will receive spam back? ;)

This wouldn't stop them. I believe the e-mails they use are generic anyway and anyone can have as many unique e-mail adresses as they want. Perhaps an IP filter would be better. Anyone who is identified as a spammer could have his IP banned as well.

Thats why the email verification by a moderator or administrator would help. The email IPs can be traced. If the IP on the email is a known spammer, flush the application.

Or solution 2 (this has already been mentioned, I just can't remember who, this also depends on the limitations of the bulletin board software) is limit posting and use a system to track time on the board.

I lurk on gamefaqs.com, this is the way they do it.

The first day you sign up, you can only post 1 new reply on a thread or 1 new topic. They use a numerical value that they call "karma". Every 24 hours that you have a post on the board, your karma increases by 1. After 24 hours, your allowed to post 5 messages. After 2 weeks or so, your allowed to post 10, after 30 days, your posting restrictions are lifted.

Why would someone pay $2 to post on this site if there are hundreds of other sites that you can post on for nothing.

Because they know that if they pay $2 to post on a site most likely everyone else did so its not just a bunch of punks who dont know crap its more like people who are serious and willing to throw an extra $2 towards a good clean forum rather than some of the scam supplements out on todays market  duh

lol just my opinion no flame intended ;)

i think a subscription fee would bury this site.
