cheating on worldfitness.com

ive noticed, compared to other forums, worldfitness.com is a smaller, more tight knit community. and in the past week, ive noticed less posts than normal. *raises eyebrow* $2 membership would probably kill this forum to be honest. but what has to be done, has to be done. oh, and the title, you know who you are ;) cough cough cough

do you think that maybe people new year's resolutions ran out of steam?

I'm a new member and had 2 different questions for advice to ask. I was very disappointed to see that you have to pay in order to post a new thread. There must be a better way to keep spammers off these boards. Some forums for ex. require you to have posted above 10 replies for starting your own thread.

Is this a new thing they have implemented? I've been reading these forums for quite some time but haven't come across any spamming activity. Was it really that bad? And you're right, 3$ subscription may very well kill this forum :( . I'm really disappointed.

Yes, it is new. It was just implemented last night if I'm not mistaken. This board was overrun by spam this weekend. I alone reported 10 messages, and was only on the boards for about 4 hours on saturday (I browse while Im at work).

Last night? :bangs head on table: Do you mean to tell me that I'm that unlucky? :( I only registered today after lurking for months. I'm generally unlucky so that's typical.

It leaves me to wonder... where else in your life are you waiting...

You have to pay to be a member now? I registered in Feb but made my first post yesterday - if I wouldn't have posted yesterday, would i have had to pay?

Im hoping its just temporary until they can get a better system in place. What happened this weekend is a wave of spammers hit the board. As of right now, it costs 3 bucks to sign up if your unregistered at the moment.

Personally, a e-mail based authorization system where the apps are looked over by moderators may be a better alternative. I understand that the guys would be taking on more work, but Im sure some of the community would be willing to volunteer and help out (I know I would). Especially if it keeps it free for everyone. I'd hate to think that the guy or gal looking for advice can't get on because they are unable (or unwilling) to pay the registration fee. I know 3 bucks isn't much, but there are a bunch of people out there who are reluctant to give credit card info over the net.

The subscription requirement has been removed as far as I know. I was going to implement the minimum replies rule suggested earlier in this thread though I could not find it.

Thank You! I was impatient and had to use someone else's thread with a similar question to post my question.

Verifying your e-mail was already required when I registered. I think If we all report where we see SPAM and if users who are reported 2 times (1 may be due to ignorance) are banned automatically it will be easier to stop it.

Come on... why the sarcasm? I hope you're just teasing. It's just that I only got serious about exercising now that I bought an elliptical machine.

I didn't mean verification of email. I meant having each new member approved by a mod/admin.
