Cardio Workout: Swimming or Running/Jogging?

Ouch. Well, perhaps I stand corrected on the argumentative issue. My apologies.

But I stand behind my comments about swimming. Any research I've ever read supports the higher bodyfat /less weight loss issue. But I'm also not a swimmer so can't speak from firsthand experience.

just wanna chuck my 2pence worth in.

Diet is the key = because its the fuel. Now, to answer the swimming vs running etc... i dont think it matters all that much. because to be asking the very questions means your not actually bothered which you do. only loosing fat. so instead get out there and try on.

For me, running was out of the question, just to tall and didnt seem to enjoy it. so it is swimming all the way. Plus, you get girlies in bikinis.... not that this should sway our fellow MAN! HAHA, but for me it makes swimming everyday a bleeding JOY!! HAHA
just like the english to bring the level of the Convo down;)

well, i have been swimming two months none stop, i havent lost more that maybe 4lbs, but i have now gained a heap of lumps on my arms back shoulders. this for me was my goal.
ANother thing i like about swimming,is that its an all over body thing. or a top half thing or bottom half thing or a sprint thing. its not just a legs things as it is with running. i mean i do about 15 length at full speed and 15 on the top 15doing situps and 15 on my back. this to me is what its about. verious bits of exersize.
I have only just added the HIIT which is the 15 at full speed this week. I will report back in a month how it is going for me, but i want to say so far... it seems to be working! i mean the next step.
K:cool:

Tough crowd, eh Karky?

But I think you're right. Calorie burn has more to do with intensity and/or duration than specific exercise. And swimming is typically a more intense exercise as it utilizes the entire body and is always against a resistance.

My big problem with the aforementioned list that was linked is that it only specifically notes intensity (mph) for the run/jog. I think that if it had specified intensity variations for swimming, we could have very well seen different numbers there.
