Sport Butter or Marg...

Sport Fitness
Hi everyone!

I am still mixt up about that whole controversy of Butter or Marg... some people told me not to take any marg but the butter is way bette for your health that marg... so what is it... ???? lol:sport:

eat the butter...margarine sucks.......

personally I think it is better to eat real foods than things like margarine. And as long as you aren't eating it by the stick, you should be ok. However, I am looking at this from the point of view of someone who has a clean diet already......So....

*If* you already eat clean, and you are choosing between butter or margarine, then I suggest butter......

How about baking... so if you bake muffins and they ask for like 1/2 of margarine would you exchange this for butter?

I think if you look around, you can find alternative recipes.....personally I don't eat muffins or the like. There are certain things that fall into the realm of "clean" diet....that ain't one of them...:)

I've been watching this thread a lil bit.

I will agree with NLL... i don't eat margerine. Anything that looks like plastic and separates when it gets warm... ick.. not for me

Butter is natural.

I substitute real butter for margerine in recipes all the time... and no, there is not a difference really except the taste is going to be richer :)

If you are truly concerned about it though, ask a knowledgeable person at a healthfood store. I'm sure an organic brand is out there if you do not like what's on the shelves of your grocery store.

there... my 2 cents :)

Yes you right... i have a hard time to stop that... i have a sweet tooth but really my problem is that i love baking... that not too good...My friend find some kind of herb that you can take that help you stop the craving when you want sweet so i might try that!

hi! Oh ok.. so that ok to use the butter instead of the marg...good i will do that then... nope the concern was not really for the taste but i alway taugh that the butter was doing more harm to your body then marg... i guess i was wrong..lol.... well so is the baking.. not very good for you... i guess i have to find a different hubby or just bring them to work

Depends on the type of margarine. In the past, they were all made of trans fats, but virtually none of them are now. And some are made with plant polyphenols now, in which case you can make the argument for margarine over butter. The only case that I would say margarine is inherently worse than butter (at least nowadays) is the stick margarine, because the only way for that to occur is chemically hydrogenating it.

If you don't want to or don't care to delve into finding out things like that, your best bet is to stick with butter, but stay in moderation. As for baking, margarine will not perform the same way (i.e. as well) as butter.

Margarine is not healthy at all. Advertisers always recommend you their products and skipping information about the negative effects of their product. After reading about the negative effect of margarine I've decided to use only butter, because it is natural product.

Have you seen fly's land on marg? It is so plastic even they dont see it as food. As for butter a thin scraping on ya rolls is ok but adding it to potatoes etc perhaps not.

You guys are both neglecting that they DO make healthy margarine, but if you want to take the thinking out of it , just go with butter in moderation.

I'm starting to move away from both (tho I always go butter over margarine), and have been using olive oil as my fat choice.

works on bread, cooking eggs/meat in a skillet...you can even brush it on and make grilled cheese !

But like if you would of have just toast ....you put butter on them!!!!

Yea me too i try not to eat it marg and butter but its hard not too....

As far as healthiness or lack thereof goes, avoid margarine containing trans-fats or hydrogenated oils, as these are the worst possible fats to include in your diet.

All I know is that I trust my father's (sports doctor and nutritionist) opinion, because he knows a hell of a lot more than I do about biochemistry. He has stated over and over again, that he believes margarine to be one of the worst things on the planet someone can consume.

I think butter got a bad rep in the same way egg yolks did. People date themselves when they make these antiquated and disproven arguments.

I agree butter may not be the best choice, and possibly should be avoided entirely, but I would tell anyone, even the most out of shape person to choose it over butter any day.
