best vacation ever

I am trying to plan for a vacation in New England this fall--I really wanted Maine or Rhode Island
Maine is beautiful - especially the northern part fo the state on the coast - rhode island - outside of newport really doesn't offer a whole lot :)

What about Massachusetts?

depends on what you want to see - boston and that area have a ton of history and things to do - head west (least i think it's west ) to the berkshires and it's beautiful country..

Head onto New Hampshire - southern new hampshire is way over developed but nashua has a great AA baseball team ina great stadium (if you're a baseball fan it's a must see) but the northern part of the state -- the white mountains area are incredible - Mount washington is amazing -- and there's a bunch of smaller mountains that are really nice day hikes... (If you are interested i can go thru my notes of all the fun things to do in new hampshire :)

There's a really easy day hike in NH - that takes you up rattlesnake mountain and the top of the mountain (it's about 3 hour hike ) you get spectacular views of Squam Lake (the lake where the old movie -on golden pond was shot - lake winnepausake isn't that far off either.

PLus if youre a fan of shopping - Conway NH - just over the mass border has a ton of factory outlets and NH is a tax free state :)

I'm definitey more of a fan of NH than Mass - vermont is also nice -even in the spring/summer - the areas around brattleboro have a lot of woodcrafty stores and other quaint shopping - as well as green green and more green and relaxation...

Connecticut you've also got Mystic - which is right on the water and has some great antiquey things to see and the boats are very cool/

Plus you can't beat new england for gorgeous color in the fall -and fall can last pretty late in the southern parts of the state...

I'll have to see what kind of options I have available to me through our and our in-laws timeshares. Thanks for all your insight!

given the choice i'd lobby for new hampshire - i hated living there but it's a beautiful place to visit -and the white mountains are only a 2 hour drive (nice scenic drive at that) from boston

The best I've ever had was any one of the dozens of trips I've made to Bryson City, North Carolina, and camped at Deep Creek and also walked a mile upstream at the creek and rode an innertube back down over and over again in balls cold water that will numb anything below your waist in about 2 minutes.

Second best would be mountain biking on the Colorado trail at Breckenridge Colorado for a week. No showers, no cars, no nothing except microbrews and bikes. Crash at Peak One Campground at Frisco and you're within two miles from a laundromat, a microbrewery, a Wal-Mart, an outdoor outfitter, a rafting company, a grocery store, and a free bus that would take you anywhere in Summit County. What the hell else could you possibly need?

I've only been to America once (Florida), but i've been to lots of places in europe. I think my favourite countries were Greece & Cyprus, they are just such beautiful countries stunning coastline & very interesting history, plus the people were so welcoming & Cyprus in particular feels like such a safe place to be.

Otherwise i would recomend Barcelona which is also gorgeous and has amazing buildings, Gaudi, Dali, Picasso, Lichtenstein, such an artistic place! (Although keep a close eye on your valuables!) A good place for sports fans too with the old olympic stadium & new camp -wow that place is just hugeeeeeee!

Austria & Norway are also amazing places to be Norway especially although it will cost an arm and a leg :( this is such a draw back becuase I can't tell you how beautifful it is the mountains, the fjords, the green, the water & the snow, the blue ice, the glaciers....., i could go on and on, a great place to walk, to ski, a great place to be active in, but unless you're pretty well off (which I'm not) you can't really afford to stay more than a few days!

Morocco is the place to be!
