I found paintball to be pretty good.
With all the running, diving, sliding I worked up a sweat really quickly.
Plus the fact of shooting your friends helped keeped me motivated to do it all quicker and with more haste.
 
Its proven that rowing is the biggest intensity (per active minute) for burning calories.

So join your local rowing club, or use the ergo's in the gym :):)
 
No doubt soccer is the number one sport for a great workout. A soccer player can run up to 6 miles a game. And the sprinting as well as the change of direction aspects of the game simulate a HIIT workout + agility training. Might be strenuous on your knees however.

Cross country will give you the most intense fat burn. My team and I go on runs every morning after we wake up. We call it "the morning burn".

Nothing like the feeling of fat flying off the belly in the morning.
 
Nobody has said.....squash yet lol. I haven't played for about 3 years but plan on starting again next week. If you have two decent players that can really challenge each other it can be pretty exhausting, especially with the changing the distance you have to run to the ball.

Also it is great fun and available easily all year round. Another advantage is that you only need to find one other player rather than a few for each team such as in Football (Soccer) and some other sports.

I think Football(Soccer) is really boring unless theres about 4+ on each team, obviously with two of the eight players being goalkeepers.
 
Sport

I'd say soocer, basketball, or even hockey. In football, it isn't easy to stay conscious when you are running down field with no breath, and then all of a sudden, someone gay spears you in the ribs, but football is more of a strenghth gaining sport than one to lose weight.
 
I'm not sure exaclty which is the "best" I would have to say it would also depend on each persons personal preference and what they think the best workout entails. My personal favorite sports are swimming, soccer, and tennis. I'm not quite sure why, but they are pretty much in that order too. I know swimming is because it's a good workout and I love being in the water. I'll play just about any sport or at least give it a shot. I look at is as having a good time with friends or even people you don't know AND burning calories and fat at the same time! That concept just makes me a happy boy. lol
 
I race BMX. I love it... it's all sprinting all the time. Even when you're just playing you sprint before every jump. Then when you train, you do sprints, and when you race, it's a quarter mile sprints.

If you go ride for 3 or 4 hours for fun at dirt trails or a stake park, it's 3 or 4 hours of sprinting! I always sweat like crazy.
 
This is an old thread but I think Basketball is really good sport to burn fat beside doing actual Cardio. I play both soccer and basketball but I must say basketball has more movement and running time than soccer. Because when I play soccer I find myself just watching offense doing their job and most of the time I just kick the ball out to our attackers. Not saying soccer isn't much of running but compare to basketball where you have to chase your man around until the end of game and keep on running of fast break offense/defense. Well I guess it all depends on how you play, I play point guard when playing b-ball and play LFB when playing soccer. I love to run and I run around alot either playing basketball or soccer.
