Best drink while working out beside water?

Wanted to know if there's a best source of hydration while working out, aside from water. I like the idea of something with vitamins etc. but don't want added sugar.

nope.......

I use Lucozade sport powder.

This is better that the sports drinks you by bottled, they have syrup in them and loads of other stuff.

However the more "suppliment experienced" members will prob say, pure dextrose. but for me, this is pretty easy.

I take a pint bottle with one serving of this, and when its gone Just drink water. when Im done, the 1st thing I do is take 5g creatine mono in 1/3 pint of water.

Its arguable that consuming carbs (even fast digesting ones) is a good idea. I have heard good arguments in both directions.
The question is what is the best form of "hydration".. you cannot beat water.

If anything, use protein powder and some dextrose or maltodextrin.
Sip 0.4g/kg [of lean body mass] carbohydrate and 0.2g/kg [of lean body mass] protein dissolved in 0.5L of water during exercise.

When playing ultimate, I drink roobios tea (naturally caffeine free) mixed with just a little grapefruit juice for taste. Personally, I think it's great. It's almost free of calories and is really light on the system, and I like the flavor. Plus, roobios tea is loaded with antioxidants.

What's wrong with water though? Just to boring for you? If so, how about adding some lemon juice?

How about some scantily clad women drinking roobios tea?

Anyway, hmm, I didn't even realize the thread was so old. I must have found it in a search rather a list of recent threads and not noticed how old it was.

To some extent, it depends on the type, duration and intensity of the ' work out ' you're talking about....and of course the climate / conditions you're training in ( i.e. how much you sweat) as to whether anything other than water is really needed IMO

When you say " working out ", did you have an specific type of workout in mind ?

Best for hydrating? thats dead simple, water is.

People can say any fancy drink that they think is best but hydration means getting water so water it is. Of course, if your exercising for a long duration with considerable sweating then you could start to look at some electrolyte drinks such as gatorade.

I've heard trainers who recommend Aquafina Alive - it has no sugar, no calories and it comes with a few vitamins. One of the flavors "Energize" also has caffeine it it for an added boost when you're working out, which I like personally.

refreshing after workout drink

Usually I was a big fan of a vitamin water after my workout. I would drink water before and during and then after I would have a Vitamin Water. I work for a marketing company and promote the new Snapple Antioxidant Water. My favorite is the Dragonfruit. It is light and fruity, something I love after my workout. Its not overpowering and does not leave me thirstier than usual after I drink other fruit beverages. I also think of it as a treat. Has anyone ever tried these?:jump1:

Costco also carries Kirkland Signature "VitaRain"...also no calories, vitamins, a bit of caffiene. electrolytes and is said to help maintain a body's fluid balance.

The downside is the sucralose.....

I'm a triathlete (Olympic length race in June!!) and I work for a marketing company that promotes the new Snapple Antioxidant Waters.

i can say in all honesty that these things ROCK!! They are super tastey, contain only-natural ingredients and they have a nice does of antioxidant vitamins to keep me movin'. I'm personally sold on these.

Sucralose is Splenda, and I have used it for nearly 3 years now. I am still breathing just fine and dandy----last time I checked-----wait! Yep--just fine! :) And,.......Pass a "thorough" physical exam every 6 months.

We just have to make the best choices amount a "bad choice set" and that is between refined white sugar v artificial sweetners. Weigh the pros and cons and make a personal choice.......

The other day I saw an article (I have to find it though, lol) that claims that Aspertame turns into a form of "embalming fluid" when the body processes it......Hmmm that one was rather interesting......

Being "embalmed when a live!"..........oh no.........he, he......;)

Seriously, if I find it I will post it. I dont hold no validity in the research however. :)

EDIT: I dont know what the "premise for this statement" is nor what research its based off of, so take the link and the post with this in mind:

When the temperature of Aspartame exceeds 86 degrees Fahrenheit [body temperature is: 98.6], the 10% methanol [wood alcohol] in ASPARTAME [aka NutraSweet/Equal] converts to formaldehyde [embalming fluid] and then to formic acid [toxin found in ant sting venom].

I have posted many things on Sucralose (pro and con) so I will spare that.

Best regards,

Chillen
