Sport Before workout snack

Sport Fitness
Hello.

Before the gym I need to eat a small snack because in the gym I tend to feel drained and have no energy. Could someone please suggest a good snack before going into the gym? I dont really want to have chocolate as im finding it hard cutting out bad foods such chocolate, crisps etc.

Thanks for reading, gets very anoying when I feel I have no energy.

How long before the gym do you eat at the moment?

Hmmm feeling tired? Is your diet clean? Do you drink plenty of water and eat your fruit/veg. Do you keep meals small but eat often?

I tend to have 4 meals a day but some maybe bigger than normal because im quite a big lad. Fruit im starting to eat alot more of. I do drink alot not allways water sometimes pepsi max and orange juice/blackcurrent juice. (I know pepsi max aint good but I have cut alot of it out and I dont have it every day like I used to)

For a before workout snack try this out to see how it works for you. You should have a complex carb, like a piece of fruit or whole grain bread, and a fast digesting protein such as a whey protien shake up to an hour before your workout. Chocolate is definitely not good as it's a simple carb (mainly sugar), from which you'll get a short term boost and then a crash.

The 2 that work best for me an hour or 2 before workout is an apple or some oatmeal. Both give me sustained energy whether it is weights, cardio, or a mix.

eat a slice of bread or 2, one hour prior to working out and / or drink some coffee (any caffeine) 30 minutes before working out.

Thanks for the replys :) Great help. Piece of fruit sounds good to keep the fat down but I wasn't sure if it would be enough.

Id probably go with a couple of slices of wholemeal bread Pre-workout actually, about 30 mins before. Some slow release energy should sort you out through that workout.

On a day you know you'll need loads of energy... a piece of toast with peanut butter and sliced banana on top :D Its what my cross-country team used to have for breakfast before races haha. But maybe we're just weird.

Bascially, you want about 30g of carbs + 15 g protein, both slow digesting, 30-60 minutes before you lift. The problem with fruit is that it's fast carbs. If it works, keep eating it but if you still feel drained, try switching over to something slower digesting.

Thanks you for advice :)
Im starting to lift 15 reps now with 3 sets to tone/burn fat. Is this right? Sorry its abit of topic but I didnt want to keep making numerious threads for little questions.

Id probably go with 3x10 or something. What sort of lifts are you doing? I hope your doing some big lifts!

bicept curl, single arm row, chest flys and flys for back. Bench press with dumbells and I use the tall machine to do tricepts. I also use the leg extension machine , stomache crunch machine, chest press machine, and another chest machine.

Ps. Not to sure what would be best to flatten my stomache :S

I think you would be more sucessful if you added some more basic exercises, barbell bench press, barbell military press, barbell rows, squats, more compound exercises.

To flatten your stomach, increase the amount of cardio you do, crunches are important, but they are not going to flatten your stomach.

If i were you id get a new routine together. Start from scratch.

Personally id base the routine around these lifts, squats, deadlifts, bench press, pullups (or rows), mili press.

No barbell at my gym and aparently it is alot better to use dumbells due to using more of the small muscles.

You serious lol? What sort of gym is it!

Well really its good to use a mixture of both the barbell and dumbbell, then your body and nervous system isn't adapting to just one style of training.

But yea DB's are good as they bring the stabilizer muscle's into more action.

OK buddy. Ile get some pictures up if I can find any :) hey have like cardio machines such as treadmil, rowers, bikes, stepers and weight machines with a bench and dumbells that go upto 20kg and they have a lat pull down machine. The weights are enough for me to do my exercises now but maybe within a year I will move onto a bigger gym :)
