Barefoot Running

As for the high-impact problem, running barefoot has none of that, because it requires a different running technique. You don't strike the ground with your heel. Rather, you're padding along on the ball of your foot. Your heel will barely touch the ground at all. It feels pretty good! Also, its works your calves BIG time. Mine are still sore from 5 minutes of barefoot running I did 2 days ago.

Man, I wish I knew THAT a couple months back. I went barefoot in the sand, and after 15 minutes of running, bent my big toe back farther than it should've been able to go. Still sore now. But I've been going pretty much barefoot wherever I go now. Public places, I'd still prefer shoes though, thinking about glass, nails, gum, and other nasties. But barefoot out in the wild? No prob. I walked on rocks and pine needles last month, moss too. REALLY enjoyed the moss :D Have to be careful on the rocks though. When they're wet, your feet don't seem to have ANY grip at all, and portaging a canoe at the same time is a bit dangerous.

Is it a conscious thing when running barefoot that it's a new way of running, and as such, you have to change how your feet connect with the ground? Or is it just second nature? I'm still wary of running barefoot after that toe incident.
