Bad Luck with Alternated Grip DLs

So's your face.

well, you don't want big girls on there.

I might just try a straight up pronated grip. I don't think my grip is a limiting factor (my wife works a lot of hours)

Hahaha, GOOCH...

I've always used alternated grip as well, just feel like I can hold on better. In fact, when I have tried the hook grip a couple times, it always feels like I am crushing my thumb and will hold on for a 1/3rd of the time as alternated. I don't wanna end up like this guy, though.

when getting used to the hook grip you will go through a period with tendonitis.. it's just the way it is :p

I don't think supinated rows are dangeoraus for the same reason since you don't use nearly as much weight.

I just used a straight up pronated grip today and had no problems. Now maybe if I was going for 1RM I'd need another strategy, but for 5-8 reps my grip holds fine

Yeah, is all good. Try practicing , as Karky suggests. It's pretty much essential if you wanna do serious (see: olympic/power) lifts with heavy weights.

Hook is where you wrap your thumb around the bar, then the fingers over the thumb (instead of vice versa - as you normally would). It will be uncomfortable and/or painful for a while, but once you get used to it, it is much more secure, and more powerful on the pull, which is almost always the toughest part of the lift.

What about supinated rows? those aren't dangerous for the same reason are they?

Correct, plus, your body position changes, so you're allowing other muscles to assist.
Hook is what I use because it's more comfortable for me, and I've never had issues.

Supinated rows = better lower lat development for me.
