Attempt One Million and One

I find tracking calories is the only way I can get on track & I have been fighting against doing it for a year now. When I was maintaining a healthy weight after losing my excess I used to track everything. It is incredible what you “forget” so I try to anticipate what I am going to have & then adjust back. My Fitness Pal is what I use & it gets easier to use the more you use it. I save regular meals. I try not to eat back my exercise calories ( I have a Fitbit synchronised)

You can do this, David! I'm on day 3 of tracking again. We can do this!
Yes we can!

I did the thing! Basically! It's less than an hour until midnight, and my calories are clocked in at 2110. I'm so excited! This is the first successful day! May it lead to many more!

It's 8:18 where I live. I go in for the midnight shift in just a few hours. Today I've eaten 2340 calories out of my 2500 goal. :) As long as I maintain this, that I've made it under my goal for the second day in a row! Cool beans! I likely will eat some food between Midnight and 8:00 am at work. I will still track calories. Here we go!!!

Glad to hear it! Night shifts are often hard on the diet resolve and take some good planning and stress/boredom relief (sometimes both in the same night...) as well as sleep strategies in order to stay healthy long-term.

Hey folks!
This is Day five of calorie counting and day three of making it under 2500 calories!
The specific number as of 10:15 is 2360! I'm doing better at figuring out other activities to do than eat. I feel like, in addition to eating for emotional reasons and the enjoyment of food, I definitely have a problem with eating because of boredom. I'm working to fix that by finding more healthy activities.
Thank y'all for all the support! We've got this! :)

Well done sticking to your goal another day!
I feel like, in addition to eating for emotional reasons and the enjoyment of food, I definitely have a problem with eating because of boredom. I'm working to fix that by finding more healthy activities.
I think that's a common problem, even more so in these pandemic times. To me the added beauty of getting up to do something distracting is that I end up feeling more satisfied with myself and my life, reducing my "need" for comfort eating.

Hey David, that is really great, makes me feel good to read it!

Finding more healthy activities is also a good idea. What kinds of things do you like to do?
Oobviously the best thing I do is getting out of the House to take walks. Other things I'm doing are more sedentary, such as reading and gaming, but I'm specifically choosing those activities instead of eating.

As important as I think exercise is, having distracting/relaxing activities that don´t take physical energy is just as helpful. Some days you just need to rest up - without immediately reaching for food to relax.

Alright guys! So today was a little fast food heavy, but I still stayed well under my caloric budget at 2,225 out of 2500! No work tonight, so I'm ready for a good sleep! I believe Monday will mark my seventh day in a row of tracking calories, so that's cool! Y'all have made starting this process much easier! Thank you! :)

Fast food may not be very satiating for the amount of calories you eat but I think it's great that you're using all your options; being flexible and realistic makes weight loss a lot more sustainable. Yay for almost a week of success!

I often resort to fast food when traveling, especially during covid. What helps me is to spend some time in advance (when I am rested & full) checking out the menus and nutrition data for all the places I frequent and coming up with some options. That way when I'm tired and its late in the drive-thru I'll already know which few items I should be picking from instead of getting overwhelmed by the entite menu's choices and ordering the most prominently displayed picture...
