Any advice on becoming a Personal Trainer?

can you send me the link for lyle's forum, i would love to check it out? sounds good. is there some good information on there as well cause im looking for some good free educational material seeing as university doesn't teach you a great deal?

Sure thing. Lyle has two forums. One is known as the nice forum and one is known as the mean forum.

The nice forum is more a support community for novices and people implementing one of Lyle's dieting strategies. He has written a number of books I recommend all professionals read.

The mean forum is pretty brutal. It's been around forever and they don't put up with much of anything. It can be downright rude at times. But if you're simply looking to read and hang with some very intelligent people... yea, it's a good spot.

The nice forum can be found on Lyle's main site which is .

The mean forum can be found at

I also highly suggest checking out Lyle's article section.

thats wicked steve, ive registered but not had a read around yet, but am thinking of buying a few of his books as they look very interesting, especially the stubborn fat book - like to hear his views on that.

do you have any of his books? good?

thanks again, great info

I have all of Lyle's books and they're without a doubt some of the best out there on nutrition and the science of fat loss.

His articles are also the best I've seen on the net which you can find in the articles section of his site.

I interviewed Lyle a while back on my site. You can read it .

this thread has made my day, i too want to become a PT.

I Don't have a degree in anything towards the human body or physics, however I have been active since 2nd grade and been in a gym for about 7 years. The latest year i've been around Personal Trainers at my gym 5 days a week asking them questions and getting tips and now receiving personal training to get the experience of what it is like to receive it.

So now I've decided to take the leap to get my NASM real soon. What is the typical time length for someone to study and pass the test with no former educational background degree on the human body. Also what tips would you give for someone starting PT as their career?

How long to study and pass? I'm not sure. I'm sure the forward of the book suggests a timeline of study prep. I'd look but I actually let another member on this forum borrow my copy so she could begin studying.

That said, I can't see it taking more than 3-6 months depending on your ability to digest information.

If you're at all familiar with the human body and exercise, that will help.

Tips?

Well you have some very experienced professionals here on this forum so if you have questions while going through the book, simply speak up.
