Welcome back, Andy! Don't be so hard on yourself. You haven't given up & that is the main thing. Every small change you make for the better is a step in the right direction & those steps add up.

Hi Andy and welcome back to the forum. No need to feel dumb - as far as I can tell we're mostly human around here.

Thanks you guys - I had a lot of success last time and this forum was a great resource for support and accountability.

I'm looking forward to a healthier 2019 with you all!

Today is day 1 - right in time for 2019.

Looking backward and seeing where I'm failing and trying to figure out how I can be proactive to avoid finding myself in those situations.

The lowest hanging fruit I see - get more water in. Make it a priority. That being said, I've already consumed my coffee + cream and a (sf!) Redbull this morning. Instead of walking to the gas station for a big diet soda, I am making myself finish this 32 oz cup of water. I'm going to make sure I drink at least 64 oz a day starting out, eventually (read: over a couple weeks) ramping up to a goal of a gallon of water/day.

Also finding myself walking that fine line between watching and being critical of what I eat vs focusing on lean proteins for satiation. I have had some success with intermittent fasting - I'll need to work on conditioning my body to get used to the new normal.

Glad to be posting - this forum allows for one to gather their thoughts and increase motivation rather than the typical spin cycle of frenetic thinking. I am really hopeful/optimistic that this effort gains a foothold, and becomes a success to build off of.

Drinking water instead of other beverages is rarely a bad idea and it for me it does tend to drive away a lot of my cravings. That said: I´m a remarkably thirsty person so my experience may not be typical. Either way: it´s a great first step.

Drinking more water works for me. too. I agree with you that-

Quite often I'm in two minds about something, but by the end of my post just thinking out loud helps me to make a decision, keep going & not give up. It helps to feel that you are among like-minded people who are supportive.

Had a pretty successful first day. Still had to combat some hunger issues even though I increased my water intake. I think those pangs of hunger will sort themselves out at my body gets used to the new protein-focused/intermittent fasting schedule. Something I want to work on - having healthy, low carb snacks that I can turn to in a pinch when im way hungry and discipline is low.

On a personal note, our family relocated to SLC this past spring, and as such we are hosting Christmas and having a lot of out of town family over to stay at our house. I am hoping that this surge of motivation/discipline will see me through the holiday season without causing any slip-ups.

Switching to a longer-term vision, once I get my eating habits sorted out I want to explore some options for home workouts. I have plenty of pages bookmarked - its time to actually go and take a closer look. :)

I think it's normal to have some hunger pangs the first couple of days when you're switching back to a healthy amount of calories after overeating for a while. Should they continue or threaten your motivation adding a bit more fat may be helpful. Nice to see you're off to a good start!

Thanks LaMaria :)

Well done on the successful first day, Andy. It will get easier. I love avocado, sometimes with some hard-boiled egg & a little Balsamic vinegar & olive oil. It is one of my favorite healthy fats. I had half an avocado for lunch yesterday with a little dressing, plus some celery & a little hummus. It was very satisfying.

Great tip! So funny you mentioned that. My lunch today was leftover bratwurst paired with some home-made guacamole. Sounds strange, but Im convinced Avocado improves anything its paired with.

My body is getting conditioned to intermittent fasting, finally. The past 3 days have kind of sucked in that respect - forcing myself to drink a large cup of water in order to stave off hunger until 11:00 or 12:00. Still happy that I stuck with it. Also have one brag point - Saturdays at our household are donuts and coffee days (The kids love their weekly donuts). This was the first weekend that I skipped out on donuts (wife did too out of solidarity, but shes a tiny thing anyways :p ) Not picking up my own donut at the store was a challenge, similarly not sneaking a bite from my 2 years. But I did it - instead I had some scrambled eggs with onions/jalapenos/shredded cheese S&P. It was good, am I'm comfortably full now. A reminder that I really leaned hard on eggs the last time I went through this transformation.

Going to work on staying strong through this holiday weekend - I'd love to start monday off without having consumed any excess refined sugars/carbs. Weekends in the past were typically a step back from the week's progress - staying disciplined for those two days is going to pay huge dividends when I meet with the scale for our monday morning appointment. Hope you are all having a lovely weekend - lets all make good decisions today so we dont feel bad posting about it later :p

Hey everyone - still around and kicking butt. Been working so hard on fixing my diet and even getting moderate exercise. I think I'm over the hard part - appetite is under control and comfortably on proteins (and getting moderate carbs from veggies and an occasional handful of almonds). Feeling mostly satiated - now its just a matter of staying on top of this bull. Also quit soda in late January - was only drinking diet soda at the time but switched over to water and my morning/evening coffee. Lost of ton of bloat in the days that follow. First week after quitting sucked, had a lot of afternoon headaches and tough cravings. But those didnt last much longer than the first week. Also clothes are fitting more comfortably - need to break out some of the spring clothes here in the next couple months.

Hope everyone is making progress. Lets make 2019 the year changes happened!

Great that you are still kicking butt, Andy. Well done on kicking soda altogether. Are you still doing IF?

Congrats on getting rid of the soda! That's huge!
