Am I going about this the right way???

Ok...

I am currently intaking around 1700-1800 calories per day. Usually in the form of about 3 meals with some snacking throughout the day.

I am doing about 25-30 minutes of very brisk walking (for me anyway) currently at 1.4 miles usually in the evening. I haven't started any weight training yet...

Here is my "normal" caloric intake daily.

Breakfast. 2 slices whole wheat toast with butter spray and one tablespoon of Polaner All-Fruit.

Lunch. Whole Wheat turkey sandwich, one serving of raisins, and a good sized salad with low-fat, low-sugar dressing.

3:30 snack - Handful of grapes and some Wheat Crackers

Dinner - Baked Skinless chicken breast, Whole wheat pasta, homemade red sauce and one serving of raisins.

Is this balanced enough???

First I recommend inputting your average day's worth of food into .

Second, where are the veggies?

Third, definitely not enough protein.

Fourth, I'd imagine not enough essential fats.

so...add some veggies...

add some meat...

add some essential fats...I assume you are talking about fatty acids like Omega 3 right?

Thanks for the link there Steve. That is an awesome journal. It's just what I needed!

Yea, I'd simply try and balance out your meals a bit.

Snacks/meals.... whatever you want to call them.

Protein -- chicken breast, lean beef, cottage cheese, whey protein powder, eggs, pork tenderloin, turkey breast, fish, etc.

Fats -- fish oil pills, fish, flax seed, nuts, natural peanut butter, avacados, etc.

Carbs -- old fashioned oats, whole wheat bread/wraps, whole wheat wraps, yams, sweet potatoes, etc

Throw fruit in where you'd like.

Throw veggies in as much as you can!

Pre-cook stuff.... it will make your life a lot easier. I always have bags of meat in the fridge cooked and ready to eat.

Thanks for the help man...This is great.

I was really concerned about putting my body into starvation mode.

Yea you never want to do that! I actually did back in May i cut out a lot of good foods just so i wasn't taking in so many calories... then switching back and forth from 800-1k calories to 1500-1800 back and forth.. it works for about a month.. lost some weight then basically got tired of it and quit.. i can tell youf or experience this is suppose to be about learnign what you shoudl and shouldn't eat not starving yoruself.. a healthy you means food :)

and i speak for myself and most of the world.. i love me some food :p Stick to putting stuff in yoru body that is going to get you the energy your body needs to go the extra mile and you will be happy you did as your pants are falling off!!! good luck!!
