Overworking abs???

I have heard some people say that abs can be worked out everyday, and other say that its like any other muscle and it needs a rest such as doing it every other day...anyone know the real answer to this...right now i workout my abs on mon, wed, fri, but if it's alright to go 5 days a week I would love to....thanks for any help

In Arnold's book "Body building for men" he suggest you do abs every single day

Figured Arnold Schwarzenegger's word might give you the final answer you wanted ;)

Why are abs different from any other muscles which need rest to repair and become bigger/stronger? Is this some unique trait of the abdominal muscles?

long as you dont do 500 a day, cause thats wasting your time do about 50 a day with different variations

That's not true. i used to do 3000 every day in sets of 50 's and hundereds and on every conceivable angle you could imagine. the reason that works is because by conditioning it as an endurance muscle , and onn those many different angles, it turns into strength . this happens because the angle you hold your alignment on ( of how everything stacks up inthere) in conjunction with the breathing training them endurantly teaches you, causes a hardness and stability that cannot be imitated or replaced. look at the motion of a boxer's abdomin and imagine how long he might train that and through how many reps.

the idea is nOt to make those muscles bigger .. besides.. you thaat by the way you feed them regardless.

Cheers.

because its small? so i guess i should do 3x10 biceps curls everyday too.. because they are small?

treat you're abs like every other muscle.

If you are like arnold, train like arnold, are you packed on steroids. no? then dont do abs every day ;)

aight now im getting different suggestions from everyone...i got some people telling me yes, becuase arnold did it, a guy whose opinion i trust, then karky brings up a good point bout arnold roiding lol...however, karky also doesnt look like the biggest person to me either (no offense)...anyone who can give me a professional opinion here? thanks for any help again...

I do believe biceps can get alot bigger than abs. Have you seen abs bigger than biceps? I sure as heck havent hehe. If your abs are sore, give them rest that the bottom line.

Off-topic: what type of cholesterol does whey protein have(ON's 100% whey gold standard)? Ic ant seem to a find a topic that dicusses if its good or bad cholesterol, since there is quiet alot of it.

I wholeheartedly disagree with an everyday workout for abs. I do crunches with a cable on 50-65 pounds and then use 12 pound medicine ball to do rotations for obliques and if done properly, my abs are WAY sore the next day. If I was to do this every day on sore abs, I'd injure myself. Abs are no different. You should give yourself a couple of days between workouts and CERTAINLY until they are no longer sore. Sometimes I have to wait a week or so until my abs aren't sore after a good hard workout. I apply this philosophy to all my muscle groups. If they are sore, don't work them out! Simple.
K-I-S-S always works

for the record, that pic is from way before i ever started working out, i just use it because the hat is cool :D

And stop listening to BB advice, no offence to any BBers, many of them knows their ****, but alot of BB sites are full of crap.

and dont listen to those who are big either. just because they are big, doesnt mean they know everything, ALOT of the people at my gym who are big, dont know what they are doing, but they are big, because they have awsome genetics.

If You are doing Ab workouts with added weights then yes they should be every other day, However without added weight it is hard to give the abs a truly hard and intense workout. for instance i can do crunches,bent-knee leg raises, bent knee sit ups, alternate knee kicks, side knee raises, and rear scissors at 100 reps each in 2-3 sets without ever getting sore in the least

Without added weight i do not believe we give the abs a hard enough workout to truly tax them. Mainly because they abs move in such a limited range of motion.

ok...i am not using added weights tho, so could i do abs every day or close to it?? i am still seeing results....thanks for help again

how old are you, karky??? : D

Im 18 :D

And yeah.
some of the best exercises for the abs for me has been russian twist (though the form is very importaint on thisone, its easy to **** up you're back, so you might wanna stay away from it)
also, ab rollouts are a killer!
