I’ve been on my journey for a few months now and dropped from 315 down to 277.
I honesty don’t know what my goal weight is, I’m 6’3 and honestly my main goal is to just be fit and in shape, meaning I can run a few miles in good time without dying as I’m joining the police academy and that requires a lot of cardio

A couple weeks ago I actually ran my first ever mile without stopping and for a time of 9:59 and it was a massive milestone

My workouts start with a 1/4 mile jog then I do various lifts with low weight high reps to help burn fat and build muscle which has been successful for me, I go higher intensity with little rest between sets and occasional super sets. I also work out around 4/5 times a week.

I’m hoping that by March 2020 when I intend to join the academy i have reached my goal which I think it is possible

My diet is very inconsistent but I always try to stay in a deficit while meeting most nutritional requirements. On average I may consume around 2500.

Hey Alex, welcome to the forum.

I saw on your other post that you are actually down 123 pounds from a high of 400 lbs. That is really an accomplishment to be proud of. And being down from 315 to 277 in just a few months is great. You are doing very well.

I can imagine being able to run a mile would feel good, that's very impressive for someone who's been at 400 lbs.

Starting this diary was a good thing. I suggest you think about posting daily updates telling us what you are eating, what your exercise has been and what's on your mind. You will find a lot of helpful supportive people here.

I think getting into the police academy is a good goal, I am hoping you make it.

Best of luck to you!

Hi Alex and welcome! You've clearly done some amazing work already and it's great to see you're reaping the benefits already. I'll look forward to seeing your progress.
Best of luck, LaMa.

Thank you I appreciate this, I honestly never thought about the fact I’m down 123 pounds as I was stagnant for about 6 months and gained some weight back. The mile was massive as when I was 400 lbs I remember walking less than half a mile home from my bus stop which took me a good 15 minutes and being extremely winded and my legs killing me for the next hour. I’ll be trying to make daily entries.

I can relate to that, when I started here I was at 320 pounds, but shorter than you (5" 7") and a lot older, I'm 67. I know walking half a mile would have been a real struggle. I have lost 56 lbs, I'm down to 264, but still have a long ways to go. I am however feeling a lot better already. I have just started exercising, I am riding a bike and can understand your struggles. I doubt I will ever be able to run again, being overweight for 60+ years has put too much wear and tear on my feet and legs. You on the other hand are still young, you can lose weight and run and hopefully avoid my mistakes.

I’ll be trying to make daily entries.
I hope you do, following your progress will help me and others, and you as well I think.

Wow that’s amazing, 56 pounds is very impressive especially for an older person as it’s easier when you’re younger so that’s great! I wouldn’t rule out you being able to run again one day despite the decades of wear and tear from being overweight, will just take work and effort and you riding a bike will build the muscles to support your joints allowing you to run so stay positive with that!

Hi, Alex. What is your plan, diet-wise? Are there things you are going to cut out or down? Do you drink soda or eat junk food? I'll be interested to see what your plan of attack is. It may be just cutting down on portion sizes. I'm just curious & keen to hear :)

I did a low carb diet for about a month but my body didn’t react too well to it so now I generally just eat what I want but all in moderation, obviously if I’m eating like spaghetti or fried chicken the portion size comes way down compared to say grilled chicken and veggies. I’ve never been big on soda so i mainly only drink water and sports drinks like Gatorade or bodyarmor, and when I feel the need for something more sugary I’ll go with sweet tea. I actually eat fast food a bit more than I’d like to admit but it’s usually for my lunch at work and I just get the 4 for 4 at Wendy’s I mainly just stay in my calorie deficit to lose weight

It sounds like you are being smart & doing what suits you & that is what is important. I gave up Gatorade as it has almost as much sugar as soda & also has lots of unhealthy additives and sodium, which I need to keep reasonably low. Fresh fruit is great when you crave something sweet. Thanks for answering my questions :)

Entry 2:

I woke up after only 4.5 hours of sleep but had to take care of stuff then got home and ate some left over curry my friend made, a sizable portion with pita bread. Then fell asleep about an hour later. I had bought myself a nice cigar and enjoyed that with some nice homemade sweet tea. I however didn’t go to the gym today as I’ve been in a really bad depressive rut over a recent heart break and it’s hard to find motivation despite me knowing I’ll enjoy being at the gym just couldn’t make myself get up and just go. I am also still sore as all hell after my session two days ago as I hadn’t done legs in a while so they’re extra sore and used that as another excuse for why I didn’t go. I’m hoping that I get over this depression rut soon and find the motivation to go regularly again which is honestly why I joined here with other people who understand the weight loss grind as I talk to my friends and they’re all very supportive and tell me they can really see a difference, even co workers who didn’t even know I’ve been on this journey tell me I’m looking really good! That helps with motivation but I just couldn’t get myself to the gym today. I didn’t go yesterday but made up for it with light stretches and swimming but didn’t do anything today. About an hour and a half ago I made a grilled sandwich with a small portion of chips and a pickle spear so I haven’t been binging despite being in my rut which is good as it’s usually my go to. Hoping tomorrow will be better but I work from 7am-1130pm so not much time for anything.

Hey Alex, sounds like you are struggling a bit but getting through it. That's good. Eating well and exercising won't fix your heart break and may not cure the depression, but it will make everything feel a little better. One thing going right with your life.

It is a long slow process, but what else are you going to do with your life right now. This is much better than the alternative. Hope you make it to the gym tomorrow, that would make you feel better. And not bingeing today is really good news.

I enjoy a good cigar now and then, Arturo Fuentes are usually my choice.

Hang in here with us!

Heart break sucks and sometimes it just takes time to heal. In the meantime you´re taking good care of yourself, which is the best you can do. When I don´t feel motivated to go to the gym for a while I try to do other things to stay active - usually walking in my case - just so I won´t feel like a sack of potatoes someone´s left lying around. Anything that gets me moving and out of the house, really.

Thank you, bingeing on days like yesterday are what I always resort to so it was good, I’m gonna see how today goes but I only got 3 hours of sleep for a 16 hour work day so idk if I’ll make it to the gym lol

I was actually wanting an Arturo Fuentes but the place I went they were all soft so not worth wasting money on a bad cigar so instead went with a perdomo

I may try that, like I went swimming which is good exercise and enjoyable as I also get a tan at the same time

For me the binge is at the heart of my problem, not my only problem, but probably the worst. I have managed to be binge free since May, I have done it one day at a time. I am still sorely tempted to binge all too often. I get through it by using some of the tricks folks talk about here, eating a low calorie high fiber meal or snack, doing something to distract my attention, or just tough it through. For me that is working on day at a time.

You might want to take a look at the No Binge page (https://weight-loss.fitness.com/threads/no-binge-no-purge-one-day-at-at-time.111089/ ), if it looks like something that could help you just post on it.

I once met Arturo Fuente the 4th or so. I went to their headquarters in one of the old rolling houses in Ybor City. They have a small cigar shop there and the young guy who helped me introduced himself as Arturo Fuente, and then told me he was a descendant of the original Arturo Fuente. I had to buy a box of cigars from him.

Hi, Alex. Not over-eating when you were feeling down is a big step forward. Emotional eating is one of my biggest hurdles. You are doing so well & I'm glad your friends & co-workers are noticing & supporting you. I hope you get through your long work shift & then manage to get a good night's sleep. It's hard to feel good when you don't get enough sleep. Take good care of yourself.

wow that’s really cool, and yeah seems pretty mandatory to buy a box from him lol.

I’ll check out that thread and see how I feel about it, bingeing is such a hard thing to fight but I didn’t binge today either so there’s that!
