A Beaner's Lifechanging Journal....

Today is the day that I have said enough is enough. I have been spinning out of control for a few months now and I went from weighing 167 lbs up to 198. None of my clothes fit me unless they have an elasticised waist. I miss my cute clothes!! But when I lose the weight, I'm gonna go out and buy even cuter clothes! That's my incentive.
Weight has always been an issue for me. I go up, I go down. It's so unhealthy though and I want to be healthy so that someday when I conceive, I can have a healthy happy pregnancy.
No support from my husband, so I'm on my own here. One day at a time.
Day One
Got up this morning and had a bowl of Special K, then I got dressed and went tanning. After tanning I hit the gym. I walked in with my tennis raquet only to find out there was a tournament going on, so no tennis until Sunday. I had made an appointment with my trainer and I worked with her for a half-hour doing a circuit type workout today. She likes to change things up all the time which is what I love about her (Kim). My abs are still sore from our last workout...I'm glad we concentrated on lower body today!
After the gym, I went to Super Target to buy a few groceries. Mostly fruit and some cereal. I also picked up a book called "The Lovely Bones". It's got great reviews. I also saw a book and the name escapes me now, but I think I am gonna go back and buy it, about weight loss. It had entries from different people about weight loss. The trials and tribulations. Boy do I need to read stuff like that right now! I don't know why I didn't just pick it up then. Oh well, I'll just have to go back there later this evening.
I did pick up a Mandarin Chicken salad which was really delicious! The best part is that I didn't feel stuffed when I finished it. This is a major accomplishment for me. It has become a habit for me that I eat until I feel like I am going to explode. Baby steps....
I felt really great after my workout. It felt like a small victory. I just hope my husband doesn't ask me to serve him some ice cream later. Doesn't he get it??
Tennis in the park tomorrow. I have to get my tennis in!
Wish me luck with dinner.

Welcome!

Sounds like your on the right track! Your workouts sound great. I find that writing my food in my journal helps out a great deal. Good luck!

cheers

Hi there, you sound like you're doing a lot of things right! I find it's a great thing to start this diary too as I only started mine last week but feel it helps me focus a lot.

Thank you all for your kind words!! I already feel better...
OK, I went back to Target and I bought the book. It's called "Tales From the Scale". I am pretty sure I am going to relate pretty well to this book and get a good laugh from it. I'll let you know as I get further along with it.

Hi your off to a great start...

We have very similar stories, my weight has gone up and down and I was starting to feel it was out of control...

Enjoy the book (the lovely bones) it is a great read I really enjoyed it!:D

Thanks so much for your words of encouragement!! They are really making me lose my appetite...LOL, which in this case, is great!
OK so last night I did OK, but I did have a small ice cream cone and come Nilla wafers. Bad, I know, but at least I only ate a small bit which is a huge accomplishment for me, because believe me, I could eat a whole lot more than I did!
Day 2:
As soon as I woke up this morning I started cleaning my house. We are selling our house and are scheduled to have an open house tomorrow, so I just had to do a little dusting, sweeping, mopping and organizing. Then my husband and I went to play tennis at noon. Boy was that killer! It was about 90 today and a bit humid, but our saving grace was the wind! Although, wind is not helpful when you are trying to play tennis. Kudos to my husband for putting some ice cold diet sunkist in the car!
Then we went home and got ready for a going away party for my friend Heather. She is going off to medical school. Good for her!!
Thank goodness they only had appetizers! Mostly fruits and veggies, and cheese and crackers and pinwheels. It was easy to be good at that party!
Our evening was pretty low-key. We just went home and watched the Producers. By the way, if I didn't mention it before, I picked up a book called "Tales from the Scale" and so far it has been good and humorous. I'll let you all know how it turns out.
Here's my meals for the day:

Breakfast:
1 bowl of Special K fruit and yogurt
1 cup of skim milk

Snack:
1 Diet Sunkist (unusual since I never drink soda!)
Small bowl of pasta and ground beef with tomato sauce and capers
Water!

Lunch:
4 Strawberries
10 grapes
4 crackers
2 small cubes of cheese
4 shrimp w/ cocktail sauce
2 pinwheels
Water!

Snack:
20 grapes (ouch!)
1 banana
1 Dove Dark chocolate square :)confused:)

Dinner:
Small bowl of pasta with tomato sauce and capers (it's yummy stuff!)
Water!
1 skinny cow ice cream sandwich (did I really need to eat this??)

Pounds lost since my start:
1 lb (I only started yesterday!!)

OK, something I just noticed....I didn't have any vegetables and I did have way too many grapes! I should have only eaten half of the banana.....I will have to adjust this ASAP.

Short term goal:
To fit back into my favorite American Eagle jeans!! And my Juicy Couture Blazer.....:( I miss wearing it. I WILL GET INTO IT AGAIN!!

Long term goal:
My husband told me that if I make it to my goal weight (135), he would take me back to Rome and buy me whatever outfit I want from head to toe, from whatever designer I want. I realize now, he promised me that because he doubts I will ever do it........Well, look out sucka! You better start working some extra shifts!
To life a healthier life and be a role model to other men and women that are fighting the same fight that I am. The fight to get our health and lives back, because let's face it, people do treat you differently when you are overweight.

I went to Target today to pick up some flowers and things for our open house tomorrow and I glanced at myself in the mirror and was horrified to say the least. There is no way I can continue living this way. I am not comfortable in my own skin. I do have to admit, typing this journal has made me feel better and has made me more aware of the mistakes I am making with regards to my eating habits. I am in for the long haul, though. I'm not gonna give up and thanks to all of you reading this that have left me your kind words of encouragement, you have made me feel like a million bucks! This journal makes me accountable and that is something I never had to face before.

If any of you have any good recipes to share, I would love to have them!! And I will share mine with you too as this journal progesses.

Type to you later!!

Sounds like you totally got this :D Your off to a kickass start which is always terrific, and hey, a new head to toe outfit is always a bonus! I hear ya on the skinny clothes to- I'm goin on vacation in a few weeks, and I have a ton of money to spend on future skinny clothes.. sooo excited!!! Looking forward to checkin out your progress!

Where are you??

Are you in Rome already? Where are you?? Are you playing some tennis? Check in with us... I like that Rome challenge... you need to take hubby up on that!! What designer do you like? Come on let's do it!!:D

You're doing great so far! I completely relate to you about going up and down and then back up again. The story of my life! It's time to get down and stay down, forever! You have quite the incentive, Rome and a designer outfit - what a great chance to show your hubbie how strong of a person you really are!

Get back here and journal, journal, journal! We can do it!

I'm back!!

Hi everyone!

What a busy week I had! Phew! Sorry I was away for so long. Unfortunately, no, I was not in Rome :( I was however, playing tennis and weight training. I was in a tournament and it being only my second competitive tourney, I was soo nervous. My first tournament was in Hawaii back in February. I went out in the first round but not without a fight! I went down 7-6, 7-6, 7-6 which, if you know tennis, all the sets were decided in tie-breaks. Not bad for having only played for 3 years and I was competing against people that have been playing for 5 years plus. So this time I made it to the quarterfinals!! Not too shabby! But let me tell you, I am beat! I don't know how the pros do it. It just really takes so much out of you. I couldn't help but think that if I was down on my weight I would have advanced farther into the tourney. I do play so much better and am so much faster when my weight is down. Oh well, more incentive to lose it all.

OK, so I have to admit somethings I ate that perhaps weren't the best choices. The night before the tourney I was getting really nervous and I had a box of.....you guessed it, Boston Baked Beans. I have no self control when those are around and let me tell you the story behind my name and my love for Boston Baked Beans. This is the honest truth, my parents conceived me in Boston just months before graduating from college and going back to L.A. That is why I have always been the Boston Baked Bean...LOL! So of course, when I first tried the candy, I was hooked! It's hard for me to stay away from them because me and the beans, well, we go way back, you know??

Then on the last night of the tourney my hubby and I went to Super Target and he had to have his ice cream, so we went to the frozen food section and noticed there was a new flavor by Edy's (Dreyer's for you west coast folks) called Root Beer Float. Well, of course we had to try it and man was it ever refreshing. So those were my 2 breakdowns for the week but I am happy to report that I am down to 194 from my 198 start weight!! WOO HOO!!! YEAH!!
My short term goal is to get down to 185 by the end of June.

Now for some embarrasing things that happened to me this week.....
First, I was on the court for a tennis drill last Sunday (the tourney started on Monday) and I was backing up for a lob that was hit my way, and I tripped on my own shoe and as I was falling, all I could think was "OMG, I'm jiggling!!" LOL  :D . It was pretty embarrasing but the good news is, I didn't hurt or twist anything, phew!
Second embarrasing thing, that same Sunday (boy was that a great day for me...NOT!). I was pretty beat from tennis and doing stuff around the house, so that evening after I made dinner, we decided to sit down and watch a movie. So here I came after cleaning up the kitchen and I was so beat, I plopped myself down hard on the couch and all of a sudden you hear this big CRASH!! Uh-oh.....I just knew I broke a spring in the couch! Are you kidding me??? Even when I was over 200 lbs, I never did that! My husband just looked over at me like, "WTF??" And I said, "Oh, I think it was just the spring popping back up", but he looked at me like," Yeah right!" He didn't say anything though until the next day when he sat in that exact spot and he looked over at me and told me, "uh, I think the spring broke", and I said, "oh, do you think so?" LOL!! He just shook his head, yes. Well hey, I've been wanting new couches anyway......LOL!!!

Can anyone tell me how to put up those ticker things??

Here's my meals for today:

Breakfast:
1 cup Special K
1 cup nonfat milk

Snack:
1 protein bar

Lunch:
Crab salad with low fat Mayo
1 cup Quinoa with raisins

Snack:
1 protein bar, 15 grapes

Dinner:
Teriyaki Pork Chop
Salad

Snack:
1 cup carrots
1 apple

Tons of water throughout the day too.

Activity for the day:
1 1/2 hours of tennis
1/2 hour weight training

OH! One more thing. One of the other bloggers on here named Metal Steve said he lost 45 lbs playing Dance Dance Revolution on PS2. Wow, that's what I'm talking about! I love dancing! I asked my hubby to buy that for me on my birthday (July 5th) and he said sure! WOO HOO!! Look out Kirstie Alley, I'm dacing my way into those designer clothes!!

By the way, Ana, I like different designers for different things. For dresses I really like Cavalli and Versace. For shoes, I like Manolo Balhnik, Valerio Martinez, Gucci, Ciro Bisanti, so many...Sunglasses, I like Prada, Gucci, Dior and so many more and for handbags I also like Cavalli, Juicy couture, etc etc. I am leaning towards Cavalli for the dress and handbag. For the shoes, I will have to see what I like and for the sunnies, we'll see what's hot at the time. We are going to Italy, Greece and Turkey in March, so I have plenty of time to get to my goal. I'm dreaming of that trip already!! I love Italy!! Can't wait to go back!

OK, I am sure your eyes are crossed by now, so I'll check back in tomorrow or Wednesday.

Have a good week everyone and thanks soooo much for all your support!

<3 Liz

Glad you are back! I LOVE Italy too... can I go too? ha ha
Congrats on your tennis, but most of all on your 4 pound weight loss!! YAY YOU! Keep up the good work...
p.s. LOVE LOVE LOVE Manolo shoes! I will live through you since I can no longer afford those things.... that $$$ goes to the kids now..... that's ok... gotta love them kids! ha ha

YAY!!!! Congrats on your 4 pounds.... Keep it up and your are doing great. have a WONDERFUL day and dion't forget your WATER:D

Thanks for all the kind words Jelly, Ana, and Luxurious!!

So yesterday was pretty good. My friend Nora, a Russian girl and my friend Laurentz, a Rowandan girl came over for lunch. It was the Untied Nations luncheon of North Dakota...LOL, no not really. They both brought their little baby girls and they are so friggin cute!!
For our lunch I made an Italian dish called Orichiette which literally translates to little ears. It's a pasta shaped like little ears that I bought in Italy. Then you heat up some olive oil and add some salt, pepper and Italian bread crumbs, warm them stirring constantly for two minutes on a medium low heat and then set that aside. Once the pasta is cooked you put it into the olive oil, mix it up and add prosciutto, grated parmesan cheese and parsley and voila! Instant meal! It is so tasty and they loved it. Admittedly, it's not exactly lowfat but a small portion is OK and it's not unhealthy. I also made a peppino and tomato salad with lime, salt and pepper and then I cut up some Italian artisan bread and made an olive oil with spices bread dip. For desert some super sweet cherries....yum! And water water water and one can of diet Sunkist....wow, that's 2 sodas in 2 weeks. Unusual for me.
They stayed pretty late and we did make-overs on each other. It was fun!
Then that evening my husband and played tennis and geez was it ever friggin hot in that place!! We were literally soaking wet when we finished. It felt good though. I felt like I accomplished something.
Today I went to the orthodontist to get my second to the last check-up before they cut me loose for good...phew! I can't wait!
OK, I headed to the gym after my ortho appointment and I decided not to play tennis, but to challenge myself doing something that I really hate doing. I decided to run on the tread mill. I know you're probably thinking, how can you hate running if you play tennis?? Well, it's simple really. Most people that play tennis hate running. The thing is that when you play tennis, you only run short distances sporatically so it's not constant running. Don't get me wrong, by no means is it easy!! But it's more my style. The pros compare it to boxing but without the blood and it's true. Constant blows (hits) and as antagonistic as it gets. I love it!! So I decided to do a run/walk on the treadmill. I would walk 3 minutes and run 2 minutes for 20 minutes. So I ran a total of 8 minutes which for me, is a serious accomplishment! So I am proud of myself for that and I am going to keep it up and the week after next I will bump it up to running 10 minutes and walking 10 minutes etc etc until I am running the whole 20 minutes and then I will keep bumping it up to 30 minutes, 40 minutes and so on. The thing is, my body is so used to the tennis, it's not really doing much for me anymore, so I have to change it up and since I hate running, I am going to learn to love it!

Meals for today:

Breakfast
Protein bar
Banana

Lunch
Peppino/Tomato salad with Lime
2 Sesame ginger chicken drumsticks

Snack
Protein bar

Dinner
None yet, it's to early!

Hey, let's all go to Italy when we reach our goals!!

Trip to Italy in the SPRING! I am actually going....my husband is taking a job in China for a year (me and the gals can't go:( , but the bonus is TRAVEL!!!)...in the spring we are meeting up in Europe with Italy on the agenda. This has actually been one of the driving forces behind my weight loss..I don't want to be the obviously heavy American in Europe. So here we go Italy Club.......watch those numbers SHRINK!!!!!!:D
