I L-O-V-E spin classes!!

How does this workout look? (for weight loss)

I've been taking 3-4 spin classes a week for the past 3 weeks, and I absolutely love them.

On my off days I do weight training and sometimes I might substitute a circuit class instead of spin

I'm looking to loose a fair bit of of weight, I'm about 165-167 cm (about 5' 4" i think) and last time I checked i weighed 68-69 kg. I don't really have a goal weight its more a goal size and appearance, because constantly weighing yourself when you're building muscle and losing fat isn't the most motivating thing.

Anyways rpm spin is so good! Has anyone tried it? I love the intensity and you think you're going to die and suddenly its all over.

I know variety is better in workouts etc but what routine do you think i should do with the following options only:

spin classes (45 mins)

weight training (I have dumbells at home plus bodyweight obviously)

circuit class (i can only do these once a week max, usually once a fortnight)

So with ONLY the above options how should i plan a workout week? I don't usually weight train and do cardio on the same day, but should I?

Sometimes I do something like this :

mon - spin
tues- spin
wed- weights
thurs - spin
fri - weights OR spin
sat - weights
sun - day off

how is that ^ ?

Is it possible to stagger your options a little bit more? I'd prefer to rest a day between each spin class and weight session, so that I'm alternating:

Mon Wed Fri - Spin
Tue Thur - Weights
Sat - Circuit
Sun - full rest

Something like that, if it's possible.

You can do both cardio and weights on the same day, but you certainly don't have to. Especially since the mode performed second will get short-changed energy-wise.

Best wishes!

While I will second you on the spin classes (I love them too), you shouldn't be supplementing your spin class with weight lifting. It should be the other way around, unless of course you're training for cycling.

Where exactly are you taking a spin class that doesn't have access to a gym of some sort that you can use to work out?

Yeah I might do more alternating and take a day off for weights between spin days.

Well it's more of a money constraint (i'm a struggling student), spin classes are the cheapest, cardio and weights room prices are pretty steep compared, and memeberships revolve around that so spin is my only choice.

Plus the gym is the closest, right next to my college so it makes me go.

With spin and weights and occasionally circuit, is that sufficient enough to drop some pounds? With proper diet ofcourse...

I think you should use the dumbbells and try incorporating a bodyweight program as strength training also, if you have no access to more weights. There is a workout called "death by bodyweight" that you could try. There are others too. Enjoy your spin class, but don't overdo it if you want to gain more muscle as opposed to being an endurance athlete.

To fully answer your question, if your diet is right, yes you will lose weight. Technically, you don't even have to exercise for that to happen (note that I am not, by any means, promoting that).

You don't sound that heavy, I am the same height as you and a lot heavier, to me your weight sounds ideal lol. But yeah diet is a huge part.

I love spin too :) At my gym we are following the Tour De France, like following their terrain. It's really fun :)

same! and they also keep telling us to follow the gold jersey and certain riders that are in the tour de france, its great haha and a lot of fun

man i love my spin classes, on the way home driving i get such a high and happy feeling, so i'll be singing in the car to the radio haha

I want your gym.

haha. I mean, it's up to the instructor to research the route etc. so you could have one person do it really well, then another instructor not give a ****, but a lot of people are getting into it which is good :) It's motivating too because when you feel like you can't go on you think of how THEY must be feeling :p
