overdose on protein?

Well lately ive been in the range of 220-240g of protein a day. I weight 158lbs and i'm 6'1, i workout 4 days a week and cardio 2-3 days. I'm not trying to bulk, I'm trying to get rid of some fat and gain some muscle. My cals, fat, carbs for the day are on par, but am i getting too much protein in my diet?

Eating alot of protein can actually get you fat. Excess protein will be stored as fat. You have to balance your intake of protein, carbs and fat if you want to lose fat.

As for your question I don't know. There are so many articles that tell different. Some say 70g a day is too much and some say it's not enough.

Well if I go by 1.5g of protein per pound, then it looks like i'm in a good ball park range for the amount of protein im consuming. Also 70g of protein a day is too low IMO.

You can't lose fat and gain muscle at the same time unless you're a pure beginner.

And bulking by definition, is gaining some muscle.

If you aren't bulking, then I wouldn't go above 1g of protein per pound of body weight.

The prob is im not trying to cut anymore weight cuz if i do ill be " under weight" but i still have man boobs and some fat on my abs and i don't want man boobs anymore and i want my 6 pack to show. I'm just a little confused on what to do, i have a thread up in the weight loss fourm that has more info on my problem.

Excess calories will get you fat. I believe extra protein is simply just dumped off. Not sure though.

The average lifestyle should get .7 grams of protein per bodyweight in pounds. However, for a person who weight lifts about 1-1.5 grams of your bodyweight per pound should be consumed each day.

Thats way too much protein buddy, how much do you weigh?

Not only can excessive amounts of protein get stored as fat, it can also cause h2o loss, calcium loss and decrease fat metabolism.

Agreed.

For most gym rats interested in adding some muscle mass by way of resistance training, there is no need to go beyond 1g of protein per pound of body weight.

At his weight, I suspect consuming around 145 +/- grams of protein a day should be all he really needs.
