Best time/ condition to do HIIT

Hi,

First of all,.. I love this site. I am learning so much about fitness and losin quite a lot of fat.:) Anyways, so I read up about the HIIT training and started last week. But I am confused about a few things. I learnt that it is best to do my caridio before breakfast in the morning and if I chose to do during the day, I should try to go with an empty stomach. I think these principles work really well with moderate cardio work-out. But is it a good idea to do HIIT before breakfast in the morning or have empty stomach during the day? I find HIIT to be very tiring and I am wondering if doing HIIT is with an empty stomach in the morning might do any harm to my body. How does HIIT work for you? What is the best time and physical condition to do HIIT? Thanx.

Charlie

HIIT is like weights you need to fuel up first or you could use up muscle.

working out before you eat breakfast is something that has been constantly debated in the past.

personally, i love doing HIIT first thing in the morning. it gets me so much more energized and i feel my metabolism is much higher.

do ss-cardio fasted not HIIT,unless you dont mind going catabolic.

Thanx for clearing it up.

Thanx,

That really clears it up. Besides, I thouoght it felt somewhat unhealthy like I am over straining my body doing HIIT in the morning with an empty stomach. I am curious so what is the best freqency for HIIT every week? Is everyday too much?

About 2-3 times a week is good. Read the HIIT sticky for some more info.

Depends on your time frame - weeks vs months - to some extent IMO.

For example, there is a very reputable trainer ( Alwyn Cosgrove ) who has a 16 week fat burning HIIT protocol. During the latter stages of his program ( the last 7-8 weeks ) , he suggests doing HIIT 4X a week, ending up by doing HIIT 5X a week.

Not sure you'd want to do HIIT 5X a week for months and months on end, but ( again, this is assuming you are in good shape ) in the short term, 4-5 times a week may not be that big a deal. As with most things, for general fitness it's always best to just to mix things up IMO - mix in some HIIT with some steady cardio during the week and you should be fine.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Thanx a lot! I am pretty comfortable with all the advices and I think I will probably just do HIIT 3 times a week and steady cardio work out 2 times a week. I really appreciate all your inputs and I will post back my result in a few weeks to see how it goes. Thanx again!

I don't think there's any problem with that.

Sometimes I don't have time to do HIIT before breakfast (like when I go to school) so I just do it when I get home.
