How expensive(compared to the quality) is your gym?

How expensive is your gym per month?

After reading some of these threads, I've been wondering about the deal I'm getting at my gym.

My gym costs about:
13 dollars recurring for 1 month.
96 dollars (thats 8 a month) for 1 year.
180 dollars for a family membership per year and anyone in the family can go.

It's not a very big gym, but it has a large freeweight room (with 1 squat rack unfortunately) up to 500 pounds in weights for the barbell (there are 2 because there is a bench too) and dumbbells ranging for 1 pound to 110 pounds in increments of 5 pounds. THere are also alot of machines and cardio stuff that I don't use, so I won't go into detail.
This may sound like a small gym to you, but most of the time, I'm the only one in the freeweight section as its normally a bunch of old people, or women that don't use freeweights that go to my gym.

So, I get that whole freeweight section for less than 8 dollars a month (I got a family membership and my mom goes too) Am I getting a good deal?

What about your gym?

I pay 30 dollars at my gym.

It's like right next to my office so I can go during or after work... so it's worth the price.

It has a good selection of cardio stuff, free aerobic class (although I never attend one), good size free weight room with plenty of racks for squats and benches.

So it's all good. I'm happy at my place.

That's so cheap! I'm from England so can't directly compare but I pay about $85 a month and it's the cheapest round here!
The gym closest to my home is about $150 a month but it's one of those 'psuedo' gyms with coffee bars, machines and social groups as far as the eye can see; not a drop of sweat in the building!

HOLY CRAP! I wouldnt' even workout if my gym cost that much! Then again my income is really low since I technically aren't old enough for a job yet. But man, 85 dollars a month. I've never even seen one of these 'psuedo' gyms. I mean you can occasionally see a conversation between people on cardio machines. But that's it.

Yeah, living in England sucks sometimes, everything costs more than anywhere else. I love the reaction of Americans when they get here and they find out that Petrol is $2 per litre and a pack of cigarettes will set them back about $12.

Lol, it works great for us 'cos we get to go over to America and do our Christmas shopping for half the price :)

Sounds like you have a sweet set up. If I could pay 8 bucks a month, I'd be all over it, as long as it had the essentials.

My gym has what I need, but it gets busy at peak hours, and it costs about 22 a month.

Since price of living is higher, are wages and salaries higher too?

err.. here my gym is about 400 Norwegian krones a month. which is.. hmm..
oh yeah, about 67 USD.

though its more of a fitness center with lots of fancy ****, i hate it.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the trainers in my gym are college students studying to become personal trainers, and other fitness related things. As such, most of the time the trainers on the floor and receptionist, is a really hot college girl. I find that to be a bonus too in terms of my gym.

Depends on how you look at things, I work with a woman from Texas who came over here with her husband because the pound is so strong against the Dollar it makes it worth their while to live here and transfer money to their US account.

However when you compare wages to cost of living you're better off living in the US. I saw you can buy a 3 bedroom house in Long Island for only $500,000! You couldn't really do that in London

Mine is 888,000 / month (Dong, that is!) so about 55 USD, one of the nicer, bigger gyms in town. The cheapest gyms are pay per session, run you about 50 cents per.

My gym is $40 a month and it's amazing. It's has all the equipment you need. The condition of all equipment is flawless, the staff is knowledgeable and ready to help.

Mine is £29 per month for a student price (I work full time and do a full time degree - go me!)

So thats nearly $60 but it costs quite a bit more for the full price which would be about $85-$90 and is the cheapest decent sized one in the area. They maintain the equipment well and recently all of the machines were replaced in the whole gym (Not cardio related machines just the weights ones) not that I use the machines very much atall anyway.

But also they replaced the main set of dumbells with brand new ones too, there are also about 4 other small sets of dumbells in different parts of the gym, but these only go up to about 10kg, obviously there is a huge selection in the main free weights area though.

mine's $34.48 a month (3 years contract), after it's paid off (Jan 2008) i will only pay like $15 a month :)
Its the newest branch of the franchise, so everything is in like new condition... I like it.

I spent $100 and got me a set of free weights and dumbells. All my exercises just involve the dumbells of just my body it'self. Ive never even set foot in a gym before. And I've been saving $$$.

I can grunt and make all kinds of weird nosies, (to hold those legs up for another 10 secs, or to get one more rep in) and look like and idiot, and no one will see or care.

That's actually pretty expensive depending on where you live.

Around here, most people build new homes in sub-division neighborhoods. A new 2 story, 4 bd/3bath brick house, of about 2000-2700 sq ft will cost anywhere from $200,000-$400,000 - depending on the neighborhood. It's not like they're nasty little slums either - I'm talking Mercedes driving mid-upper middle class neighborhoods. (Not that I have a Mercedes, or live in one of those neighborhoods for that matter).
