first jujitsu class

well, i only watched them:p ill be going on tuesday! they dident seem to do much grappling, when i was there they were practicing a block from a hook punch, then putting their knee in the oponents stomach and drag them down to the floor by the head/neck. looked like fun, spechally when this one dude got a knee in his groin :D

LOL best of luck when you try it out, I hope it suits you :)

I absolutely LOVED Ju-Jitsu. And when I get out of school I plan on gettin back into it. My first week, I learned Reaping Throw:D . It's great to be 5-9, 160 pounds and the most dangerous man in the room;)

im not very heavy, havent done any throws yet, though ive only really participated in one practice where we mostly did some knee in the stomach thing and some punching technique, next week we are gonna learn more locks and stuff i think. so if someone ever tries to strangle me KIAAAH!! :p

Ah, that's tough. Waiting to learn cool s*** is the hardest part. I had a great instructor. Day one I was learnin throws and locks. We'd work on bar fight drills too. You stand with your back to the mat, and each other student comes up to attack you full speed. You have to throw them and get to the next guy. Great stuff. My instructor had a flair for the practical.

ooh cool. i wasnt there the first day, i started 1 month into the newbie program :( but the instructor says it shouldnt be a problem to catch up to the rest of the group, if i had come a bit later i might have had some problems tough

So its a been awhile, how is the class? What have you been learning? I was looking into studying Aiki Jujitsu but I was reading around on some martial arts forums and I hear that Japanese JJ is not worth studying. Supposedly the manuevers are so "deadly" that they dont practice on each other. They only punch air and such. I have found an Aikido and Kung Fu (dont know what style yet) in my area, and will check them out. I dont plan on starting until May at the earliest.

I just found a Brazilian JJ school near me aslo, which costs 120/mo for two classes a week! Be lucky yours is 150 for 6 months.

Keep one thing in mind Tony...

Most people are so hung up their style, that any other style is worthless to them. Id bet most of the people who are saying not to practice Japanese ju-jitsu are probably BJJ or Gracy ju-jitsu. I've noticed that most (not all) of the people who practice BJJ think that BJJ is the only ju-jitsu thats worth a damn. The rest is just horrible in their eyes.

Most arts are like that. People in general tend to frown on anything different from what they know. A lot of them think that since they don't practice the art, its worthless. Im not saying everyone is like this, but a lot of them are.

Ya I was thinking that, but in the arguments against JJJ there were some really good points made, with examples. A funny thing that I noticed about JKD is that these guys worship Bruce. Some people were telling stories what they heard (arrogant and that he lost a fight to someone), and literally getting cursed for it, like Bruce was a God.

Allen is your stepson still practicing? If so, what rank has he reached?

about tehe jujitsu. i think its a jap jujitsu im doing, and we practice on eacother. what we have learned, we learned how to get people off us if they sit on top of us choking us or something like that, same if they are stupid enough to sit between our feet and do the same, and on the side of the body. punches and some standard kicks. some standing grappling. some knife defence, if they are just holding the knife infront of you threatening, or if they slash up from underneath, defence against forward kick types, defence against choking from behind and infront, defence against standing headlock.. blocking some punches and blocking strikes with a metal pipe or something.. cant remember more.

i think its great though, i can see how it can be effective on the street if you get attacked. im just curious about choking and such, i hope we are gonna learn how to blood choke, so they dont die or anything.. just pass out :D

As a Judo 2nd Dan black belt here, Jujit su will be very similar to Judoka, but very defirent grapeling techniques, besides the striking. But for now Karky I say goodluck to you in youre journey of Jujt Su, and I hope you enjoy doing Jujit Su as much as I enjoyed doing Judo.

yeah im looking forward to getting my yellow belt, i might have to do it a bit later than the others since i joined 1 month after they started :( but it doesnt really matter.
i figured id do this JJJ until i have to move away from this town in about 1.5 years, then ill move to Trondheim (city in Norway) i think and they got a BJJ jujitsu school there, so ill probobly join that :)
ive been thinking alot about judo too, as it looks really cool :)

BJJ is not better than Thai Boxing and visa versa. It's a good system but it's not the be-all-end-all. I don't care for the headtrip a lot of BJJers have.
