Stephen Colbert: US Speed Skater Supporter Enthusiast

Introducing Colbert Nation

Stephen Colbert is not only a great comedian; he is also a great Olympic supporter. And this year you will find him cheering on the U.S. Speed Skating Team at the 2010 Winter Olympics more than any other athletes. After the U.S. Olympic Speed Skating Team lost their previous big name sponsor DSB Bank NV to bankruptcy, Colbert decided to jump on board. He has taken over the big name sponsorship for the team, and hopes for a big win for them at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Colbert thought of the classy catch phrase "Colbert Nation" to reveal his sponsorship and dedication to the U.S. Speed Skating Team. You will be able to see "Colbert Nation" written on the thighs of the team's uniforms as they whisk by on their skates at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. As Colbert stated in an interview, "be looking for that logo as it comes around the final turn. It will be easy to see because it will be in first place."

And if you don't think Olympians were fond of Stephen Colbert before his sponsorship to the U.S. Speed Skating team, more and more athletes are talking about him now and his love for sports. Apolo Ohno, one of the team's biggest competitors says, "I personally love Comedy Central & The Colbert Report and any attention the sport can get is going to be beneficial."

But the show isn't paying the team directly for their sponsorship. Colbert and the Comedy Central crew are calling on their fans to donate money via the internet at: www.colbertnation.com, and Colbert says he has had previous success raising money this way. The U.S. Speed Skating Director Robert Crowley has faith that Colbert's publicity will pull through for them, and stated that "we're highly optomistic that the country is going to get behind this and get behind The Colbert Nation and support this amazing team."
