If there is one sport that Canada dominates, you can be sure that 99% of Canadian Olympic fans will admit that it's curling. Canada has some of the world's top curlers, most of who surprisingly lead regular lives with 9-5 working jobs, and who simply curl as a social pastime.
But, unlike the Canadian Hockey teams, where the women's team seems to be trampling every team they come across, and the men's team that is simply battling for a spot in the finals; with the skill that the Canadian men's and women's curling teams have, they are both guaranteed to be matched up in the final rounds for the gold medals.
Kevin Martin is unstoppable. If you haven't heard his name in the Olympic headlines, then you must not be watching the Olympics. Martin is the skip for the Canadian Men's curling team, and most likely the best curler in the world. So far Kevin leads his team with 3rd John Morris, 2nd Marc Kennedy, and lead Ben Hebert in a no-loss competition at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. But, their latest win against Norway's Thomas Ulsrud, was a battle to the last end. Martin hung on to win it in an extra end win scoring 7-6 in the 11th end over Norway. The Men's Canadian Curling team will continue their battle to make it into the finals, and will most likely be squared up on Sunday February 28th to fight for the gold.
On the women's side, Cheryl Bernard is a favorite in women's curling. After beating out Mirjam Ott of Switzerland in the first draw of the tournament, Cheryl and her teammates have been on fire. They have only one loss in their battle towards gold, and will meet again this Thursday in the women's semifinals against Switzerland. Bernard exclaims that the next game against Switzerland will be a tough one, and that they will have to play even a bit better than they have been. Hopefully the ladies will come out with a win to make it at a shot for the gold medal.
