Sport Zone Diet

Sport Fitness
So the Mrs and her girlfriends where yapping on today about the "Zone" diet,I even over heard the word macro nutrient being bandied around.

Anyone know the deal, I've seen 30/40/30 p/c/f mentioned.

The same site claimed that excess protein lead to destruction of lean muscle mass hence why I'm asking

I'm curious about this as well... I had heard too much protein consumption would end up being stored as fat, but destroying lean muscle??? Stuff like this confuses me further...

No, extra protein will not turn into fat, let alone break down muscle. If you're in a 30/40/30 ratio, you have nothing to worry about, your protein intake should be fine seeing that you meet the right requirements for your calorie intake.

I believe most of the concern over excess amounts of protein are geared toward those who live on chicken dipped in raw egg whites with tuna on the side and protein shakes to drink. 30/40/30 is considered healthy if done right.

I don't like using macro ratios. Get your 1g per lb of LBM or TBM depending on your current weight and body fat levels, then worry about getting in your good fats, then worry about your calorie intake which is dependent on personal goals, then worry about splitting up the rest.

Some will probably disagree with this, but it is what I use for myself and clients.

i just discussed this last night with a friend who used the zone diet. Everything was just sounding to go to be true. Seemed to have decent macro breakdowns, a logical approach to fat loss, didn't agree with some of the things like the protein thing. He had mention he lost 20lbs without exercising then he plateaued and just started going back to regular eating. So then I asked what kind of caloric intake did you have? He said he didn't know but listed out what a days diet was according to their suggestion, at most it was 1200-1300 calories.

So I got my answer. Not to good to be true, just a glorified starvation plan.

That calorific intake is a joke ^^

I was just surprised to see a mainstream diet even mention macros.

Yeah me to, as he was talking I was thinking wow talk of good fats, macro breakdowns, doesn't seem to bad. But with most mainstream diets there is the catch and I was just waiting for it to pop out.

It will if it's not balanced out with enough fruits and vegetables to keep the body's pH at a nominal level.
