Workout machines

Hey, new here, and i need to ask a question. I've been working out the last month, I WAS 260 lbs, now im 246-245 lbs, and mostly I've been taking in very little calories (usually between 500-1000 a day including workout) and working out on a 1000 calories workout. I use a DDR machine, and to be honest I thought those they were resourceful, but when I tried to do it on an olyptical (sp) machine, a felt a more signficant amount of struggle in an earlier time and saw I was burning less calories but was being as long as I usually was on a 1000 calorie workout on DDR. My question is is DDR a reliable way to work out? I'm trying to lose 60-80 lbs, and even though I'm doing good, I'm worried (now that most of my water weight is gone) that I will not be working out effectively. Can anyone help me with this?

WOW. 500 to 1000 calories is WAY low. You really should find out your basic metabolic rate with a calculator like this one and then adjust your calories from there.

When you say DDR are you meaning dance dance revolution?

Your calorie intake is far to low.

But, to answer your question.

DDR is a "weight baring" exercise. Meaning you are holding your on weight up while doing it. Obviously, this will translate to greater calories burned in less time. Its basically, sitting VS standing. DDR is standing and whole body movement. The machine is not.
Its not surprising that DDR would expend more. Especially considering your mass. As the larger the mass of the person the greater the amount of calories they expend in a weight baring exercise.

Now, back to the calories. I would strongly suggest you increase them some. There are many reasons for this. One namely is the endocrines systems response, another is the fact its hard to get the needed nutrients on such a VLCD. Also, FOOD IS TASTY! A "diet" shouldn't deprive you of food.

Read the stickies, all of the ones relevant to your situation. Come back - either here or in a new thread - with some more specific questions and well do our best to help.

Best of luck to you!

I was wondering how long you plan on keeping up the starvation diet? I'm curious what you believe will happen once you start eating normally again. I'd hate for you to go back to the same weight or higher, but since you're currently slowing down your metabolism and at the same time you're not learning healthy and proper eating, I suspect that's what's bound to happen. Hate to be negative but what's the rush that you need to resort to starvation?
